Great Car for the Money

We bought this car used since we needed a people mover and Ford didn't make them any longer. Too bad that Ford no longer makes them because it's really a great car. It's not loaded on room compared to today's mini vans and SUV's, but it is still quite comfortable and very easy to drive. It has great performance and handling and has proven to be very reliable so far. The only real negative would be the limited space for luggage and other stuff. We have the second row captain's chairs, so it only seats six, but that is actually better as it allows easier access to the third row.

Excellent lifestyle fit

My wife wanted room for our kids plus their friends, but was tired of the suburban housewife minivan. After looking at much more expensive options, a friend turned us on to the Taurus X. My wife loves it. Lots of room for people, but no soccer mom stigma. Great compromise until our teens are off to college and she can move into a Mustang GT. Good power and handling. Very reliable so far (my buddy has had his for a couple years and still loves it). We are happy with our base level car, but they have list of options with more luxury. Here's an important point for this style of car-- unlike more expensive similar cars, this one has excellent visibility. Not so for other cars of this type. We are very happy.

Excellent car! solid drive.

I checked out this car and its previous model: the Ford Freestyle. While test driving, I had to admit, the Taurus X is so much more powerful and offers a solid ride! Lots of space with easy flip seats. Third row stows away to make way for a seperate deck that folds away so it does not show any dirt etc when not in use. It stores as much as my minivan used to, however the foot space is a little less for really tall people. I like everything about this car.

Outstanding Vehicle

Bought a 2008 SEL model used for a very fair price, although I found these are hard to come by as they are very popular. I find the X to be one of the best I've owned and I've onwed them all. Extremely reliable with pretty good performance from the 3.5 V6. I would have decked out the interior over how Ford released the car/crossover. Could not find one with leather, but the cloth interior is extremely comfortable. The X is probably the best kept secret in the auto industry. I recommend the X to anyone.

Gotta love the bucket seats in the second row

My family consists of three young boys, ages 6,5 and 3. After bambi all but destroyed our Chevy venture ext. minivan the wife and I had to find a replacement. I hate the looks of minivans but have gotten used to how easily parents can move kids and cargo with all the extra space. After looking at ugly minivan after ugly minivan I talked the wife into checking out a cross over. We started with the traverse. She loved it but realized it would only work for a family of five or more if it had bucket seats in the second row. Without the buckets I can only imagine the time being wasted folding and putting ahead the seat to get to the back seats. After looking and looking we finally found one with buckets, but we were not about to spend 25K on a used car. Later we decided to check out a ford lot we found no minni vans witch was fine with me but it did have some freestyles and X's. To be honest I had never herd of them but the nicest salesman I had ever met told us it would work perfect for our kid transporting needs. We were very impressed with the quiet power from the 3.5 v6, and the price tag was well below the 20K we were willing to spend on a two-year-old car with 28K miles. In the end the three boys made it a done deal when I saw how even the three year old could open the door, and there is even enough room for an adult to get in the third row without moving seats ahead. I am also very impressed with the amount of usable space in the X. I did not realize how long this car was until I parked it in the garage where the van used to park. Bumper to bumper there can't be more then a couple inches difference between the X and an extended minivan. So far it has worked out great for moving the young boys. I hope ford brings this back in the coming years I think it is a great alternative to the minivan.

Taurus X

We have been very pleased with our purchase, although we wished we would have found one with heated seats. We live where it gets in to the teens in winter. Always seems to have room for more stuff or people yet parks easily like a small car.

Most Enjoyable Car I've Ever Owned

I got the Limited version with the Audiophile Sound package standard, and I can't believe how I'm hearing things I've never heard before in music I've listened to for over 30 years. I've never driven a car before that has a 0.74 top gear that spools under 2000 RPM for cruising speeds above 75 MPH. I have driven a car before that was as quiet and smooth on the road, where 80 mph feels like 60 mph, and that was a top of the line 1985 Mercedes sedan fresh from the factory. The rear parking assist (a beeping sound that gets faster as you get closer to objects behind you) is something that I didn't know I needed so much. I have to drive the car with a feather touch else the engine quietly makes the car leap another 10 mph ahead of the other cars. Last and not least, I've never owned a car that I was so proud of and couldn't wait to show my friends. Real world mileage so far has been 21.5 MPG city and 26.5 MPG highway, as measured by the tankful. I consistently get over 400 miles per tank highway, over 300 miles per tank in the city. I can see myself taking this car to 200,000 miles over 10 years, but I've done that with my last two Taurus station wagons too ('88 275K and '99 183K).
