Love/Hate Relationship (more love, I guess)
I use this jeep for everything, going to work, having fun, life. The 'primary use' question at the end is unanswerable. Who has a car for each category??? Bought this 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo from my aunt's estate in July 2019. I was the only driver a couple times a month for 3 years after my uncle passed. It was in beautiful shape - 8,000 miles on it. THEN at 36K miles the head gasket leaked - coolant was leaking into the oil, costing $3300 to replace and that included a break on labor. After that repair, drops of coolant are still on the ground occasionally. The replaced gasket was not the original because that original part is not on the market now. And then later, I hear the bolts that hold gasket on break (because of the heat?) I know not every jeep will have this issue. The heater never heats to capacity even with a major heater core/radiator flush and new thermostat. I use the seat heaters, thank God. (I hear it's the steel/cast iron ?that shreds into these parts and plugs them up...) The SUV is great to drive and creates a hauling heaven. I always need to haul something for myself or someone else. Gas mileage sucks at 13-14 miles in the city and I can squeeze 15-16 out on the highway. The engine is very hot when I stop driving and sometimes it smells like oil is burning. But the temperature gauge never goes past the half-way mark. I got it very cheap so I will hang onto it because even now it has only 39K miles on it. But I am never comfortable that I got the coolent/leaking/oil/gasket issue truly fixed. Got the trunk and hatch lifts replaced and they are very strong. not quite enough leg room in the backseats. My dog loved having the backseats down and had all that comfy blanketed room in the back. And there is room for me to sleep in the back and camp. AND I am never stuck in the snow with the 4 wheel drive. I have hellish stories with my other cars. That alone is work a packet. I still love the vehicle very much, but I'm nervous about future repairs. Thank you for reading all this, if you did. I'm being tedious because I want to know if anyone else went through the gasket issue and any other on-going issue. I am reading the other reviews for information.

Still Going Strong at 300k
I got mine as a first car when I was 14 years old. Going on 8 years later, it has never quit on me. Stuff like tires and alternators wear, that's not the car's fault. But the engine and transmission have given me no issues whatsoever. And I'm pretty hard on the thing! I fully expect it to hit 300k miles this year, and I have no plans to get rid of it. Mine has a 4" lift, and I like to take it off road.

Good for hauling trailer
Drove good carried good load when running. My friend had two Jeeps just like mine 2000, the electrical systems the lights and lamps constantly went out the none working windows the fuel tank fell out of one of his cars and I had to have mine replaced I went to U-Pull it was a line to get a fuel tank for that car. People died because of the fuel tank. I don't think that should have been cont.inued in later models.

The most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven.
To date, this is the most comfortable and practical vehicle I've ever driven or Owned. The engine is powerful, the 4-low is unstoppable, the seats are like couch cushions but better; Multi-hour drives are a dream compared to even the newest luxury vehicles I've driven. Hands down my all-time favorite vehicle.

Best bang for my buck
I own the 4.7 L v8 limited edition, has 243k miles on it. handles corners great with the quadratrack 4wd and takes forest service roads easily. I've also hauled a tent topper in this 20 year old car 4 hours away non-stop with no issues. Interior is comfy, even now. I've had to change the shocks, hood and hatch struts, head light housings, brake booster check valve and front drive shaft at 200k. front Cv axels are starting to pop a bit at 240k but I'd say that I've gotten great use out of them. All and all, this car is amazing and it shows what a little love and care can do for a car! Hauls xxx and takes off-road great!

Still in love
My jeep currently has 236k miles on in at still runs like a beast. Smooth shifting, cranks up easy and hauls without complaint. Interior is coming apart a bit but what can you expect out of a 19 year old car? Very small paint fades on the hood; pin head size. Stereo keeps up with a 10" sub-woofer addition that I made. Had to replace the suspension around 200k, window motors same time, and a crack in the brake booster valve but other than that I still love this thing. Best part is, got it for 1000$. What a steal!!
