First Jeep won't be Last Jeep

I became interested in the Jeep when the current design was introduced in 2005. Daimler did a great job redesigning the Jeep to look more classy and similar to a true luxury SUV. The Grand Cherokee Ltd has a VERY powerful V8 under the hood, great for Northeast driving conditions, easy to pass trucks and the car has a lot of muscle. The fuel economy is lousy in the city, but on the highway, I have averaged 24 MPG pushing 72. Great for hauling a lot of gear, good room in the back for the kids and the sunroof makes it a fun car to drive. The Boston Acoustics system is outstanding, blind spots take some getting used to, but not as bad as advertised. The price is on the high side, but you do get a good bang for the buck.

My 1st SUV purchase

I have had my used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L for 6 weeks now. I love it! It's very comfortable to ride and drive. It goes over bumps smoother than any vehicle I've ever owned. I drove the 3.7 and it struggled to climb a hill going out of town. The 4.7 is the one you want if you want smooth power. I laugh every time I give it the gas because it growls! Gas mileage is a bit hard to get used to. Coming from having a car to this, I have seen as high as 22 mpg, but usually around 18-19. I have to realize it isn't going to get gas mileage like a car would. It has been reliable so far and I hope it continues that way. I got burned on a Dodge purchase this summer which prompted me to trade for the Jeep. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Best SUV I've Owned!!!

Reliable, comfortable and great styling. Powerful and a joy to drive. Took it off road and had no problems in mud, hills, water, anything. Best SUV I've owned, perfect for Colorado. Might be a little much on the high side, but if you buy one used you'll be saving a bundle. Be sure to get one with a V-8.

Not What I expected from Jeep

I've had this new 2006 model for 10 months and I'm not happy. It is very sluggish when you accelerate and it almost stalls out when you step on the gas. There are several blind spots to the car and you can't see out of the rear view mirror b/c it is too small. I fear I almost will hit a neighbor's kid when I back out of my driveway. I'm not crazy about the exterior design, I like the old one better. I don't like the rounded corners. The handles located in the cockpit serve no purpose and block your vision, which causes your visibility in the front to be impaired. I'm disappointed b/c I loved my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. Oh, I wish I had that back!

Smart tranny, NOT!

Diamler decided to put the Mercedes Tranny in this vehicle. It sucks! The dang thing tries to learn how you drive. Well think about it, if you drive in rush hour traffic it really screws you up. It shift into overdrive way to early (even at 15 mph). Then you try to change lanes by stepping on it and you have this huge pause. Or you are driving up a hill at a steady pace and then it goes into overdrive and the darn thing bogs down. A friend with an E class has written to Diamler with the problem and they dismiss it. You can go to the dealer and they will reset the thing for you, but do this on a Friday afternoon, so you can drive like crazy on the weekend, and then it will be fine. The other way to reset it is unhook the battery for at least 6 hours -- the probelm with this is you have to reset your clock, preset, etc. Otherwise I love my jeep. Heard a commercial for the new bmw z4, push a button and then you're in performance mode -- I wish the Jeep had that!

I bought it and I like it

The 2006 Jeep 5.7 Grand Cherokee gets good reviews except for gas mileage when in reality it gets very good real world gas mileage when compared to even the touted imports. I drove and compared 8 SUV's before I bought my 2006 5.7 Jeep Grand Cheokee. After breaking it in, I average about 18 in town and 23 on the road and I have gotten as high as 26 at 70 mph interstate driving. I think reviewers, any many drivers, drive with lead feet and then blame the car. The 5.7 can use a lot more gas because it has a lot of potential power in reserve. Driving all out with a 5.7 will produce lower m.p.g. than a small import SUV but with normal use, it does as good or better. But with the 5.7 I have the reserve to pull 6,000 # over the Rockies without a wimper and, of course, it is built here in the United States. It is a great car, drive and actually compare. Even car reviews have gotten poltical.

Grand Cherokee is just that, GRAND!

I have had my 2006 5.7L Hemi powered Grand Cherokee Limited, with everything but U-Connect in it, for about 3 months now. I have 6,000 miles on it. I love every aspect of this vehicle. On road is just a dream, and I might add that I come out of a BMW 635csi to get into my Jeep. I drive race cars on road courses for recreation. And I have absolutely no complaints about the power and handling of my precious Jeep.

A Classic!

In nearly 45 years of driving, my 2006 5.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee is simply the best car I have evered owned. It is not a "family" SUV to haul the kids about-it is a powerful, comfortable and safe vehicle that actualy meets and exceeds its design goal as a Trail Rated 4WD. From experience, I can tell you that it handles any weather and roads including snow/ice covered passes in the Rockies. The multi-dispalcement engine delivers about 18-19 in town, 22-24 on the road and has enough power to effortlessly pull a 7,000 load over an 11,000 foot pass. The 5.7 multi-displacement engine gets better actual gas mileage than its U.S. and European competitors who advertise that they do better. Don't take my word, check it out. I urge folks to test drive them all-it's what I did onver a peroid of about four months. The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee will prove itself.
