Starting As Best Car I've Ever Owned

As an older driver, a former engineering manager, and an owner of Jeeps since 1990 (yes, I've had other cars other cars...European, Asian, and domestic...along with a Jeep during that time), I have to say that the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best car I've contemplated buying and bought. I've had the car (a Limited model) since the beginning of December and it is the first car I've ever owned with which I could not find a problem. I searched meticulously to find a flaw or something that didn't work well and only found one small issue after three months of looking: after 30 to 45 minutes of operation, the seat heater of the front passenger seat would go off and had to be reset by turning off the ignition. The dealer isolated the fault and replaced the suspect component. I've looked at panel spacing with a micrometer, I've examined the torque of bolts and screws, and the quality of the materials and finish and can only conclude that the car has been engineered and manufactured extremely well. When one considers the quality, cost, and the performance of the machine with it's competitors (Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Pathfinder, Land Rover LR4, et al), I believe the car is a bargain and, if anything does go wrong, is certainly less costly to operate, repair, and maintain. I won't go into a detailed comparison test since those are available online, but I am impressed with the engineering that went into the car and which I would like to highlight First, I want to mention the chassis and suspension...a cooperative venture with Daimler Benz that Mercedes uses now on its M-class...that makes driving the car a totally joyful experience. It handles exceptionally well on and off-road and provides an extremely comfortable ride. Next, I would like to make a brief mention of the engine that I chose, the new 3.6L V6. With twin overhead cams and variable valve timing the engine delivers respectable fuel mileage (16mpg & 23 mpg)while pumping out 290 hp and a well distributed, relatively flat torque line over the engine range of rpms. This is a significant improvement over the V6s used previously and makes the engine a viable option, in my estimation, when deciding whether or not one wants to step up to the more thirsty 5.7L, 360 hp V8 Hemi engine. In fact, I would not be surprised to see the Hemi engine become a 'white elephant' in the not too distant future. The new V6 has truly been well thought out including the weight savings which contributes to reduced cost and the decision to bolt components (A/C pump, alternator, etc) to the engine instead of brackets bolted to the engine which are then used to hold the components...again driving up cost, driving down reliabilty, and adversely impacting overall engine quietness. Sorry, if I sound like a Jeep sales pitch because that is not my intent. I simply want to share the pleasure from the results of the agonizing, long term research I did prior to my purchase. I am glad I did my homework and that I followed through with what the results told me. If this helps others in making their decisions, thats what its all about.

A Real Off-Roader... the Best!

the best sat-nav in the business. everything beautifully integrated. seats are superior to all past model jeeps & of all new suv's & crossovers out there. quality is rock solid. the perfect well-rounded vehicle for off-roading & on. goes through feet of snow & gets you from point a to point b safely with the latest & greatest in technolgy. The overland & summit models have a std. dual sunroof that is a class leader. my blackberry peal overland model is stunning & runs as great. never been happier with a vehicle - car, truck or minivan.

Best 4x4 for the money

I drove everything from Toyota's to Ford's (except the new Explorer, not out as of purchase) and nothing even came close to the Jeep GC. GM, Hyundai, & Honda don't make anything that competes with it. Great ride, beautiful interior (everything is where it's supposed to be), fit and finish is excellent (not one gap or creak anywhere) and EXCELLENT gas mileage. Real world 70% city and 30% highway = 19 mpg with the V6. It will be a long time before any of the other makes can catch up to the value, feel and ride of the GC.

I drove 4 different cars before I drove this jeep. As soon as myself and my wife drove this jeep we knew this was the vehicle for us.

This is a real Jeep

Anyone can say anything about it, but after driving in one of the worse snow storms of the history in the US with my Jeep I can 100% tell anyone that this car is really made to everything and anything. I really did one of the amazingly things ever in the snow. I drove in the middle of the 6th bigger snow strom of the history in NJ facing all the difficulties, and without problem. In some moments I could not find the streets without look my GPS to show me where they were, but the truck faced everything without trouble. Congrats Jeep, I?m really satisfied with the product. This is what a Jeep buyer whould expect per its products. A real reliable Jeep. P.S.: I do not work for Jeep or any other company related with them, I just changed my Grand Cherokee 2007 for the new 2011, and I'm in love.

Traded in Range Rover Sport

We traded in a Range Rover Sport on the new Cherokee and was glad to see it go. Nothing but problems with the RRS. After having a few Cherokees in the late 90's, we gave it another try and are glad we did. Got a Black Overland with the Saddle interior. We could not be happier.

Better Then Expected

I just purchased my first JGC 4x4 and I have to say it just keeps getting better and better. I didn't have the buyer's remorse that I thought I would coming from a fully loaded Cadillac CTS. The ride is smoother then any Nissan product and comparable to the similar Toyota line. My Laredo has the X package and tow kit so those were a few add ons I would recommend. I leased mine for under $600 with tax included 36 months and 50,000 and MSRP at around $39K. I cannot comment on its towing capability as I haven't pulled my boat with it but I would expect it to do just fine. Where I am really interested is the capaibility to get my boat out of the private lake as I have buried an Avalanche and Pathfinder trying....both 4x2. All in all interior not stellar but, again, I'm used to a fully loaded Cadillac. I was still surprised with some of the extra featured included and overall, I'm pretty happy to now call myself a Jeep owner.

Best Jeep yet

I previously owned an 08 jeep GC limited and i recently purchased a new 2011 Jeep limited. It is a spectacular improvement over the previous model and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a capable vehicle that is still extremely luxurious. It handles well and at high speeds is extremely quiet. My vehicles options include the 5.7 hemi, which always delivers enough power and then some. The 3.6 pentestar is a great improvement over the previous model, but does not give you adequate acceleration. The interior is very luxurious and Fiat did a great job incorporation soft touch materials, but who deserves the real credit is mercedes benz who actually designed the jeep off of their M class, before the split a few years ago. This car can go up against a land rover any day and beat it! Great Job Chrysler!!!
