The Car is a lemon

I have owned this car for almost 4.5 years now and it is a complete piece of junk. Although the interior and exterior hold up well the engine and tires are awful. I have replaced the tires 3 times in just under five years. I should have known that the car was a lemon when it would not start after having it for two months. I was told then to hold the accelerator down 1/3 of the way and crank it after which blue smoke came from the exhaust pipe. That episode has continued throughout me owning the car. I have also had to get it boosted numerous times even within a few months of nissan replacing my old battery with a new one. I had the ecm reporgramed and replaced the crank and cam shaft position sensors, bought another battery after just having one replaced that was only a year old, and a starter. But to make matters worse, I continue to have the car not to start. And those purchases were within a few months or weeks of each other. I'm not sure what the problem is with this vehicle but it needs to be taken off the market. Triple A is definitely making tons of money due to my constant calling for towing and boosting. And Nissan is making tons of money off of me as well. I have no idea why they do not know what is wrong with the car and why the car appears to not have any problems while in their care. There is an obvious defect but it can not be traced to anything so they just come up with things to patch it up while not fixing the problem. I would not recommend Nissan to anyone especially not the altima. As far as the 1/3 accelerator thing, Nissan knew about it in 2003 and should have disclosed it to all buyers before purchase not after the buyer experienced the defect for him/herself. Once this lemon just can't be boosted anymore or Nissan has all of my money for sabotaging my car instead of repairing it, I will not be in a Nissan.

My 2005 Nissan Altima...

I bought my Nissan Altima used with 27000km just over a year ago. Since, I have had to replace the break pads and routers. According to my paperwork, this is the second break job! Gas mileage is absolutely HORRIBLE but in saying all that...I do love this car. I have not had any reliabilty issues such as the vehicle not starting etc. I am very diligent on the maintenance...Just wish the gas mileage was better.

Not worth the hassle!

The radio did not work when I drove it off the show room floor with 1.8 miles on the odometer. Nissan put in a refurbished radio even though they promised me it would be new. The sticker on the front of the radio, which I peeled off, stated that the radio may contain refurbished parts. It has had to be towed into the dealership three different times because it just won?t start. The car gets to the dealership, and miraculously everything is fine. I was told the fourth time that I called and it wouldn?t start that I have to let the car run for at least ten minutes before turning the car off. So if I have to move the car say five feet so as not to block the mailbox, I am supposed to let it run for ten minutes or more so that the engine doesn?t ?think? it is flooded. Yes, this is what the Certified Nissan Service man told me. Surely, Nissan can make a more reliable product. I drove the car through an automatic carwash the first two months that I had the car, and a piece of the weather stripping came off. Because of the air dryers blowing the piece, it beat the back driver side door, and scratched it to the metal. Nissan replaced the molding, and told me to have the car waxed and buffed and the scratches would come out. WRONG!! They are down to the metal, and Nissan won?t fix it. I had to buy new tires at 21,000 miles, and recently had it in for a knocking sound that of course couldn?t be duplicated. The auto down feature on the window doesn?t work occasionally, but again, the dealership can?t duplicate the problem. Now I have 26,500 miles, and the car rattles and the steering wheel feels like it is about to fall off. I am VERY disappointed, and have thought seriously about trading it for another car?NOT A NISSAN! If I weren?t almost finished paying it off, and really looking forward to no car payment, I would be at a Toyota or Honda dealership now. Really look elsewhere before purchasing this vehicle.

I would rather ride the bus

I purchased this car in march of 2007 it had 26,000 miles on it 2 months ago I went to lunch and went to leave walked out and the car was dead would not jump. Put a new battery worked fine for only 2 months then went to start the car on a semi cool morning and again it was dead. Had to have it towed to the dealership where they told me its a common problem with the altima that when its cold you have to hold in the gas 1/3rd of the way down to get it to start. but wait is it not a fuel injected car. so they say there is not recal on it and no problem to fix even though they said that its a common problem and there were 2 other Altimas there with the same problem at the same time. and the cold morning was 56 degrees.

Worst car ever owned

I bought this car used with 28000 miles 2 months now and it has been in the shop twice. It completely died on me recently and I had to have it towed. A few weeks after getting the car, the key kept getting stuck in the ignition and it would sometimes stall when I would go to start the car. The dealer can't find what's wrong with the car- they act like if the problem doesn't happen right infront of them, it doesn,t exist. I'm ready to get rid this car. It has been a nightmare experience. Oh yeh- to top it off, the interior is falling apart!! The worst.....

Excellent Engine

I have the SE-R version and its quality is outstanding. The performance rivals cars costing $15000 more. This car was an excellent value and I love to drive it. It even gets decent gas mileage (26mpg average).

STILL LOVING IT AFTER 2-1/2 YEARS

This was our first brand new car purchase since 1983, and glad we spent the extra money and got the car I really wanted. Fell in love with the looks of this car when it was redesigned, thought it was a Lexus or something. 2005 better with interior upgrades. Took the advise of my husband, and many other online reviewers and went for the 6 cylinder, and went all out with the SL package. Also looked at the Grand Prix, the Altima has much more interior room. The only complaint I have is the warranty should be longer. 3 year is too short. Only had 1 minor issue with a loose exhaust gasket, but that's it. Has plenty of get up and go. Have rented many other vehicles when traveling, even 6 cylinder Charger & SUV's and none have the power of the 3.5SL. Always glad to come home to my Altima.

Overall great car 3.5se

Performance... explosive from standstill or 40mph however torquesteer is terrible. The Se handles well but not as good as i expected. Exterior.. Can you say 4x4.. the gap between the tires and wheel wells is way to big especially in the front. Could benifit from minor suspension drop 1.5"fr .75" rear. However extremely sexy bodyline. Extremely reliable. So far the best car i've ever owned
