Absolutely BEST vehicle we've owned

I can't praise the Subaru Forester enough from well in handles/rides to the exceptional standard features and options available. I can see how it is the Motor Trends SUV of the year for 2010!! I LOVE too how "planet friendly" all the Subara vehicles are as well as how extremely environmentally friendly the Subaru corporation is!! Thanks for an exceptional SUV and making all the Subarus with protecting and preserving the environment too!!! We will never buy any other car/SUV that ISN'T a Subaru!!

Key Engineer Problem

Purchased a 2010 Forrester. Two months later lost a key. The key is $95 and $50 to program but I expected that. The problem is the key has to be cut in Georgia and shipped to your dealer and it takes a week. The car comes with a roadside driver assistance packeage. I asked what would happen if I am traveling, lose a key and call the roadside assistance number. I was told they would tow me to the closest dealer and I would sit there a week waiting for a key. That leaves the onlu alternative is to wire a spare key under the car which totally nullifies all of the security featues. I actually would not have purchased this car just over this issue.

SUV's step aside - Wagons rule

My Forester is the 1st Subaru i've ever owned and after looking at the competition, i'll stick with them for ever. The paprika 2.5XT Limited was a little pricy, but with full black leather interior & all the goodies included, i feel like i'm in a mini limo. The 2.5l N.A. engine is quiet, fast enough for me & will tow 2,500 lbs if needed. The symetrical all wheel drive feels like you're riding on rails in any weather - never felt so safe in a car in my life. The short turning radius makes it a pleasure to navigate in city driving & park anywhere. The gas milage isn't great but i'll trade that for the all wheel drive (all the time) security i feel when the weather gets bad. To me it has more of a classy look than the aero-jelly bean/egg styles of the CR-V, Rav-4, Lexus, Porche etc. Small on the outside, big on the inside - this car does it all for me.

redesign mistake

My 2000 Forester was everything I wanted in a vehicle. My 2010 Forester falls far short. It is the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever driven. Although the size of the vehicle increased overall, the seats are narrower than in the 2000, and hard as a rock. Also in contrast to the 2000, the interior is full of wasted and hard to use spaces. Worst of all, the parking brake is jammed in right alongside the drivers seat, perfectly positioned to jam into the drivers leg. I was prepared to live with the redone exterior, which took the clean lines and distinctive simplicity of the original design and replaced it with the shapeless blob look of just another SUV clone, but in addition to the aesthetic shortcomings the redesign means reduced visibility all around. All in all this vehicle is a great disappointment. I'm driving it as little as possible until I decide on what to replace it with. Fortunately, my 2000 Forester, with 320,000 miles still runs like new.

3rd Subaru

This is my 3rd Subaru, the other two are a 1993 Loyale that my son is driving and a 1999 Outback that my wife is using. I test drove a Toyota Rav4 first and then the Forester. The Rav4 didn't compare in terms of interior room and comfort. The Foresters seats are much more comfortable and supportive. The Forester also has much more rear seat room. I am 6'2" and I can set the drivers seat for myself and then move into the back seat and still have plenty of room. The Forester rolls nice down the road, very smooth ride and the suspension is good. Visibility out all windows is excellent. Gas mileage has been about 22 in town and just under 28 on the highway which I'll take take for having the benefit of AWD which is almost a necessity here in northern Minnesota. I'm sure this Subaru will be just as dependable as the other two have been over the years.

Best Value for small SUV

A few days after I bought the Forester, we had a snowstrom, so right away I was able to 'test' how this car is suppose to handle in lousy weather and the car proved itself right off the bat. It handled so well that it blew me away as I never had a car that handled that way in snow. The cargo space is excellent for a small SUV. The inside of the car is well balanced with great leg room. I just got the base model and what up get for your money is a great value. All-Wheel drive, full power, it even comes with standard cruise control. It handles quite well on dry streets as well. I have heard about the noise in the back and I have the same thing, but if you take out the rear cargo privacy cover you'll see that the noise will disappear. I compared all the small SUV's for about a month before settling for the Forester and I'm quite happy with my purchase, well spent money I'd say !!!

Best Vehicle for Small Family

We bought our first Subaru about a month ago, after months of research, and before even reading the cars.com "Best Vehicle for a Small Family" review. We totally agree with this rating. Love the handling, turning radius, and AWD. Reading reviews where people are confused about square cup holders... we're the only ones with mugs with handles? We only have two small kids so this car is perfect. If you have three kids, I would not recommend the Forester. One of the main reasons we chose the Forester is the Manual Trans. The Hondas and Toyotas don't have a 5-spd and the Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, etc, have a 5-spd but with underpowered I4's. The 2009 and 2010 Forester is a great combination of features at a great price. We're now Subaru owners for life. Take care.

A great car!

Comfy, economical, the best snow car I've ever had. Even the base model has lots of features. Great safety with side curtain air bags, traction control, ABS, and electric tire pressure monitors all on the baseline vehicle
