Very Reliable

This vehicle had plenty of room inside for transporting grandchildren and even a kayak. We loved the huge sunroof.

2013 Forester XT Premium; let the hosses run!

My best vehicle owner's experience, ever. The power, the ride quality, dependability, mileage and looks all get five stars. Subaru warranty service and recall service have been great. Got mine in 2015 with 19k miles and Certified Pre-Owned at Gresham Subaru. It was well under Blue Book value, and the difference paid for my mini-vacation to fly out there from St Louis and drive it back home to southeast Missouri. The hood scoop and turbo howl don't lie; when I want acceleration power, it's all I could ask for. It could use a manufacturer's sticker on the dipstick to remind service techs that it takes synthetic oil; I have yet to find a place (including the local dealer) who know that. The interior space, high seating position and great visibility are tops. And the ground clearance lets me go places that I couldn't go in my old rwd Ford Explorer Sport. I love its ability to handle snow, in either dry or slushy form. With some sticky Michelin all-season tires, its traction in wet or dry conditions is awesome; you can scare yourself witless with how well this beast will handle even decreasing-radius turns.

Fun to own & drive. great for outdoor adventures

I love this car. The hatchback design works great with fold down seats to toggle between hauling people, pets or stuff. Cons, there was an oil consumption issue at higher mileage that Subaru paid to fix with a new short block motor around 85K. Also the paint is remarkably easy to scratch for interior and exterior considering it's an outdoorsy vehicle IMO.

3 years in and it already needs A NEW ENGINE!

Love and hate it at the same time. I bought brand new from a dealer so there's only about 45,000 miles on it and I already need a new engine due to excessive oil consumption... Apparently this car BURNS oil like you wouldn't believe... I should not have to have the ENGINE REPLACED before it even hits 100k... come on... I have all of my regular maintenance done at the dealer, and this time between scheduled maintenance the engine burned through ALL OF ITS OIL and now needs to be replaced. Also no sensor to tell me anything was wrong - the dealer is telling me that there's no oil sensor in the car, which I know there is, because you can see it at start up, but it never went off when there was clearly an issue... They definitely don't make subies like they used to.. Sure AWD is great, but that means nothing without a decent engine... Still waiting to see if the dealer will fix the issue for good, otherwise I'll be looking to trade in. I bought new hoping it would be more reliable.. boy was I wrong.

The car that does it all!

I needed a car that could do everything and the Forester is it! It had to be reliable and fuel efficient, I get an average of about 8.5 liters/100km on the highway and it runs like a dream. It's not a fast car but it handles great on the highway, on gravel and dirt trails; with the manual transmission, it puts some fun into the drive. This car It's fairly small but you'd never know it from the inside, there is ample leg room, the dash is small and doesn't feel crowded, there is a huge sunroof that adds to the spacious feel. My border collie has lots of room in the backseat, while the hatch has enough space for camping gear, my gym bag and groceries. The rack on top is perfect for my kayak or a canoe. I wasn't interested in the bells and whistles but it has heated seats that are a bonus and the Bluetooth system is easy to use. Overall this car is great for commuting or road tripping and for anyone who leads an active lifestyle.

Most durable car I've owned

This car is the biggest bang for your buck! I have a wife that is a "SPIRTED" driver!!!!!! The handling, durability is seconded to none. We have 101,000 miles of tough driving (wifey) and we only have had to do normal maintenance ie. tires, brakes etc.. The only major repair was front struts which done because of a pothole whack!! This car goes in the snow like none other. This year I bought snow tires to see if there was difference and "WOW" did this car goes in the snow very impressive.

very disappointed in my forester

I am so disappointed in this vehicle. I would trade it in but money is an issue. I am still making payments and bought it brand new, get regular oil changes and service. This car sucks!

Typical Subaru

I love the forester. It's nice, cheap on gas and repairs. The newer foresters have engine issues though. I've owned 3 STi's and 1 WRX and the STi's, different motor, never had issues. Even after mods. The WRX was starting to get metal shavings in the oil and now this ForesterXT which has the same motor as the WRX is having high amounts of silver in the oil. It has 55k miles. I do love my Subaru's. Their good job security for technicians.
