Great gas mileage in an SUV

Perfect for CT weather. Nothing stops it. Snow + hills= no problem! Traded in a little more room for much better gas economy and I'm not regretting it at all.

2014 Forester DRINKS oil

I bought a 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium in June and the thing is drinking oil. I have to add oil about every 1,500 to 2,000 miles. I'm NOT happy with this car's mechanical performance. Yes, it's comfortable, handles well in bad driving conditions but a new car should need oil added every 2,000 miles. Right now, the car has 11,000 miles on it and I'm getting rid of it. I didn't buy a brand new car to spend so much time trying to wrestle the oil cap off to add more oil. Not happy with local Subaru dealer service; they tell me that Subaru parameter allow me 1 quart of oil each 1,000 miles so there's no remedy for this problem other than spend many $$ on repairs. No, thanks. It's not love; it's a Subaru.

Giving Subaru Another Shot

Have owned three Subaru wagons previously - the first two were very basic, 4 on the floor, first FWD vinyl interior, no air conditioning, crank windows (both before 1980). Both cars went nearly 300,000 without significant repair. Subaru #3 was the Subaru Loyale - much fancier - cloth interior, AC, tape deck AND radio, east shift to 4WD. Good crash rating. The only thing that really did stand up was thankfully the most important - I was Tboned in the car and walked away - the frame protected me. Prior to the accident which happened at 100,000 the car had been in for repairs multiple times for things that should have not broken down - water pump, belts, shifting mechanism. There were too many problems to mention. I returned to Subaru because of it's superior safety rating in class. Life circumstances dicatated a change from a sedan to a wagon. I've had this Subaru 3 weeks so it is too early to tell overall. It is much more stylish but also much more expensive. Tires are very expensive - close to $200 each and still do not corner. Turning radius is marginal and road noise on the highway is high. The electronics system is not intuitive ... you need to search the menus to find what you are looking for because they are not in the obvious place. I would love to give this car 5 stars on all counts but find I cannot at this point. After 3 months of winter driving I may have a very different opinion. I would never recommend any car brand to a friend because there is no way I could count on performance. I would recommend they look at several and make their own decision.

never again

I will never purchase anther Subaru again. I had this car for 5000 miles and traded it in to obtain another brand. I had to get warranty work performed twice on the CVT and engine. What a joke.

Love this car!

I have had my 2014 Forester for a month or so. My previous vehicle was a 2003 Honda Pilot, so it has taken a little time to get used to a smaller SUV. I love it now. Great handling, tight turning, great extras. I got the Premium and love the moon roof, rear view camera, dashboard screen, and comfort. My only complaint is lack of pickup until it warms up, and the ride is a little rough at higher speeds, (but I am getting used to this). The buying experience was terrible, but I think that this was more due to the lack of stock due the popularity of this vehicle. Overall very happy with this SUV, and very glad I purchased this over the competition.

One word - fantastic

It does everything and I have a premium with Nav and that includes Sirius radio. I owned one in 2010 and this new design it not the same car. Smooth ride and engine with CVT. Couldn't ask for better and I drove them all and researched the small SUVs to death. This is REAL 4WD. Ford, Hyundai felt too cramped and smallish...Honda was overpriced for what you got and as soon as you started adding options to the Mazda it got too costly too fast. Don't waste your time...buy the award winning Subaru (almost sound like a dealer don't I - I'm not). We bought Subaru Forester premium in pearl white with cold weather package, Nav, floor mats, cargo tray and rear seat net. AND paid invoice price for it (I knew the price going in and it actually matched). JUst had snow and subzero weather here. Purchased right on time........SOLD!!!!

What a terrific automobile!!!

I purchased my 2014 Subaru Forester Limited on 1 Nov 2013 from Vic Bailey Auto in Spartanburg, SC. I traded in a 2014 Honda CR-V. The Subaru is larger inside, far more comfortable on the road, uses less fuel and has great CVT transmission. The leather seat are very comfortable and the passenger seat is at the best height for my wife. This is truly a great car and well deserves Motor Trend's selection as SUV of the 2014 year. Try the rest if you must and you will come back to this Forester.

First Subaru - Very good

After 3 months of research and test drives, I narrow down and own the 2014 Subaru forester Premium with all-weather package last weekend. Of course it?s very short to do the review, but I like to share my thoughts. In past two days, I put around 200 mails on it. It's really cool prefect ride in local/highway (Not yet tested in the off road yet) and likes to say "Unbelievable pickup" for this size engine. And very smooth ride. Hope all other dealers/users/reviewers listed pros/cons and comments, but just want to tell my 2 days experience with Forester because I am impressed and start like to drive a lot and explore with my forester. I want to say ?Like it/Live with it? instead of Pros/cons. LIKE IT list: 1. Great performance and stability. 2. Awesome pickup and not even feel the automatic gear change (CVT is cool). 3. Wonderful re-design exterior with changes with previous version. 4. There is a ?WOW? factor huge moon-roof, I love it. 5. Very Good interior leg/head room for driver (I am 6.1' tall). 6. Good cargo space with ?touch and lift? the door. 7. Backup camera/HD radio options are cool to have it. 8. Nice and simple recline option for the back seats noticeable feature. 9. Dashboard design and simple Dashboard controls; but need to play around for an hour to get familiar with the options. 10. Wide open view for drive/passenger with more glasses. I can feel it in very first test drive. 11. Very good rating on MPG on SUV not yet tested 100% but I am hearing good reviews. 12. Both front and back door open wide, which really nice to go in and out easily. 13. USB/12v charger/AUX inside the middle handle between Drive & passenger seat; which will hide all the wires. 14. Handle the screen display options/settings in steering wheel in the right place. 15. FYI? The ?Universal low bucket seat covers? which are fits good with front seats. Few $$ spent will help not get mess up a lot with the original seat cover. I am planning to buy for the back seats as well. I like it with little wrinkle in the head rest. FYI... If you want it prefect fit, then you don't like it. LIVE WITH IT list: (Compromise) 1. Road noise which is noticeable, but will be ?gone? if music on. 2. Hand rest in the middle of the driver and passenger seat is tinny, hope it may be because of the cup holder?s space. I can bear with it 3. This is good for 4 passengers; because the Middle seat is tinny and also with the hump in the middle of the floor. So, it?s good for 4 member family. But, 5th person can join if it?s a short drives. 4. If you are setting in the back seat do not remove your shoes and stretch your legs, because, your toes will hit by the metal under the drive/passenger seats. You we can avoid by not removing your shoes.

Great car and so fun to drive

We purchased a 2014 2.5x Premium 7 months ago and have put almost 10,000 miles on it. My wife and I still remark all the time about how much we love this car. The car is just fun to drive and is remarkably zippy. It has a ton of room and has great visibility. Rear seat legroom is great even when the drivers seat is pushed back due to my 6 foot height. We average about 29 MPG overall. Love the auto dim mirrors (all 3 of them). The sound system is excellent and the bluetooth connectivity is nice, though the feature set is a generation behind the competition. We got the all weather package, the auto dimming mirrors, cargo cover and floor mat, all of which I would recommend. Driving this car on a dirt road with the windows down and moonroof open was just too much fun!
