An excellent car
The 2010 Outback is very posh Subaru. The front seats are to die for, the handling is superb, and the interior space is copious. We were interested in the Tribeca but the mileage was not as good as the Outback. Although Subarus are not that popular in Houston we do get our fair share of rain and there is nothing like the stability of all wheel drive while driving thru a gully washer. It has more comfort than the Forester, which is more utilitarian. We had buyer's remorse for the first 2000 miles because of the mediocre engine performance of the 2.5L; we were wishing we got the 6 cycl. But once we got 3000 miles on the engine the car started to perform well. The CTV with paddle shifters is a kick. Our average MPG is around 28.

Ruined Design
My review will be brief and it is not based on a test drive. I've marked all criteria at 1-star level because I can't get past the ruined design. They've turned our beloved outback into a suburban SUV jelly bean! I've had 6 Subarus but looks like my 6th will be my last. Au Revoir Subaru.

best outback I have owned
Had a 2007 LLBEAN 3.0 Bought 2.5 outback limited. Just took 400 mile trip up into Pa. Averaged 33.4 mpg up and 33.0 mpg. Having had the 6 cly. before was not sure if I would like the 4 cyl. Was very surprised the 4cyl handled the mountains fine, and with great gas milage. Car still has under 600 miles on it and getting that kind of mpg I am very happy.

2010 2.5 limited Outback
We purchased our eighth Subaru which is the 2010 Outback Limited with home link self dimming mirror, media hub, remote start and other options. On our first trip we adv 34.2 mpg and in mixed driving conditions we are getting 25.9 mpg. It is a lot larger than the previous Outbacks, it gives a smoothe and quieter ride, handles fine and has enough get up and go for the normal driver. I like the CVT transmission and it is smooth and works well. The paddle shifters with six pre-selected gear ratios are fun to operate and will be handy when you need some extra power going up steep inclines. The interior has good fit and finish. I would perfer the lighter carpet to match the light interior as I find the charcoal shows just as much dirt if not more than the lighter color (warm ivory)that was in the 2007. I would like to see the folding side mirrors come back and add the panoramic sun roof and the temp guages. Also why not give a choice of interior colors with all of the outside colors? The 440 watt Harmon Kardon sterio with the nine speakers including a subwoofer sounds great and works well with the media hub. The optional media hub allows you to play your Ipod through the radio's head unit. It has an USB port installed in the lower portion of the arm rest so you use the USB cord that comes with your Ipod to connect to it. It charges the Ipod while attached, allows you to control the Ipod through the sterring wheel conmtrols or from the radio and streams the titles of the artist, album or title of the songs over the head unit. You don't need the navigation system as some might think. Also with the Harmon Kardon radio it comes with blue tooth so you can sink your phone to it and answer your phone from the steering wheel. You can add numbers into the radio systen to create a phone book and use the six presets for speed dialing. This is a nice feature. I have found that the car will pick up our cell phone over thirty feet away from the car and still work fine so you don't have to take it out of you pocket or bag. In all it seems to be a great car for the short amount of time I have owned it. For the money you can't find a car with the the same AWD system and the features. Subaru had perfected a great product.

Just Purchased last week
We test drove a Rogue prior to our purchase of the 2010 Outback and for the money and features the Outback wins hands down. As a matter of fact, my wife was entheusiastic about the Outback, and she hates car shopping. We have been very please thus far (300 miles). We purchased the 2.5I Premium package with 6 speed manual. The car has plenty of power for what we need and the gas mileage appears to be outstanding. Very happy to this point!! First Subaru!!

A Surprising Revelation
I wasn't really looking for a Subaru but with the clunkers for cash program I decided to take a look at what our nearby Subaru dealer had to offer. We were very disappointed with our test drive of a 2010 Forester finding it a very rough ride and lacking in acceleration. When the salesman suggested that we try a new 2010 Outback, we rolled our eyes but decided to give it a try. Wow, what a difference! The 2.5 L engine with the CVT was really amazing. Acceleration was smooth and sure, the ride was tight but well cushioned and the handling was excellent (and my other car is a BMW). With the added interior size of the new model combined with a stylish looking exterior we made the choice to buy it on the spot. It also helped that with the better gas mileage we were able to trade in our 1999 Nissan Quest and receive $4500 cash back from the Clunkers program. I'm not sure if Subaru knows this yet but the 2010 2.5i Outback may get the best gas mileage of any AWD vehicle on the road today.

Love the new design
Living in a ski resort town where it is not unusual to have over 400 inches of snow during our 6 month winter, my husband and I have owned three all-wheel drive Subaru Outbacks since 1997. This one (with the caveat that we have only driven it a little over 200 miles so far) is the best. I love the new design with its much more roomy interior space and high-tech features (compass, bluetooth, dual -zone climate control and built-in garage door opener). I also love the comfort of the leather seats and the Harmon/Kardon sound system with the 9 speakers (we bought the Limited). The exterior has a more SUV look which I think is attractive, though it may not be appealing to everyone. Parked in our garage next to our 2001 Outback, it looks huge although the length is virtually the same. It sits much higher, especially in the front and it is a little wider. But what I especially like about the 2010 Outback is the great gas mileage of the 2.5i, 4 liter engine with the CVT transmission. After buying the car, we drove approximately 175 miles on rural highway back to our home (gaining about 3000 feet of elevation) and used about a quarter of a tank of gas! Granted, the tank holds a little over 18 gallons (up from our older Subaru's 16+), but that still gave us well over the average 29 mpg highway estimate. We also got the moonroof which was fun while driving through a thunderstorm on the way back from the dealer and the Partial Zero Emission model which added just a small amount to the total cost. With this Subaru's good gas mileage (26 combined city and highway), we were able to qualify for the $4,500 "cash for clunkers" government trade-in. So far, we are very happy with our choice.
