weather king
I have had this vehicle 3 months and 5000 miles. It is the 3.6R limited, and is a superb vehicle. I had had it in heavy snow and on unplowed roads, and in the manual mode was a dream going through the white stuff. I have averaged overall 23.87 mpg in all driving conditions since getting the car. It gives a great sense of security in foul weather conditions, the main reason I got this vehicle. The size of the new design is great, with excellent storage and comfort for 4 adults on a long ski trip. The stereo is strong and the bluetooth connectivity is greatly appreciated. Subaru can keep the simulated wood on the interior, folding outside mirrors, self locking doors, and xenon lights should be in it's future. All in all, this is a far better car than I ever expected, and $6000 less than my wife's Audi A4 Avant. I would highly recommend it to all, especially if you've never considerred a Subaru. I did try the 2.5 CVT, but I felt far more secure with the 3.6 and the traditional 5 speed automatic. Also, the 3.6 came with Subaru's best AWD system.

Just Another SUV
With this 2010 redesign, Subaru failed to stay within the bounds of its original Wagon based all-wheel-drive vehicle and created a goofy looking mini SUV. The increase in size and improved interior design is a welcome to the vehicle, however on the outside the designers went overboard on goofiness. And the brakes are still mushy.

They wrecked a great car
The older Subaru Outback was a great alternative to the honking SUV. Now with this latest redesign, it's gotten fat, chunky and essentially just like EVERY OTHER SUV out there. What a shame they walked away from such a terrific design in the pre-2010 Outback!

first subaru
I am assuming it will be reliable based on the history of the company. The si basic has all I require but I would suggest adding a tweeter for improved sound and tint for the windows. Gas mileage has been 26+ for city driving. What you get for $ makes it a superior value.

Several Shortcomings in an Otherwise Excellent Car
The 2010 Outback has received much acclaim in the automotive press, but as a new owner I am dismayed by several shortcomings which I believe are the result of short-sighted economic decisions by Subaru. 1. The side view mirrors do not fold back, which is a definite problem in New York City parking, as well as in getting into a narrow garage. 2. There is no engine temperature gauge, only an "idiot light" (I haven't seen one of these in who knows how many years!). Where this gauge ought to be is a useless fuel economy gauge, whose function is duplicated on the inboard computer. Even the cheapest Ford has a temperature gauge! 3.Subaru's all-wheel drive system might be great, but when they don't equip the car with all-weather tires (M+S rated), at least for vehicles sold in the snowy northeast, the system is severely compromised.

First time reviewing a car.
I have had the car for a few weeks now and have just went over 3500 miles. So I'll break it down by the categories for my review. First; Comfort. The car is extremely comfortable and I LOVE the heated seats on the cloth. Handling. OK, so I'm not running the thing on the track, however, I did take the kids to school the other day passing trucks that were having trouble getting up a hill because of snow on the roads. So the AWD is AWESOME. My wife drives a Mercedes with 4matic (AWD) and I would say the Subaru is more aggresive in the snow. Exterior Styling. I'm 33 and proudly driving a station waggon-need I say more. Interior Design. I like the brushed aluminum and love that the back seats lay back. Features; I added the BlueConnect, Sirius Satalite Radio, and Remote Start. Of those features the BlueConnect gets an A+; the Sirius gets a B (I think the display should show more or atleast scroll the information); The remote start gets a C (BEWARE: In the 2010 model they made the remote start shut down whenever you open the door. So you have to restart the vehicle everytime you use this.) Value; Very happy with what I payed and the features that I got. Reliablity; I hope I have the experience that most Subaru owners that have posted their review have had. I'll get back to you after 250,000 miles. To close I do want to add a couple things to be aware of. I purchased the roof rack and bike mounts for the Subaru. The bad is that it REALLY effects the gas mileage going from 28-29 MPG to 23-24 MPG. With that being said I took it off and stored it in my garage until I need to use it. The good is that it took me less than five minutes to take it off myself. WONDERFUL design. I believe that Yakima is the best in the business and the joint engineering in their mounts are clearly evident. And finally, I changed my oil tonight for the first time. EASY! I couldn't believe how easy this was. The filter is less than a foot from the oil pan and wide open to fit your hand and unscrew. It took me less than ten minutes and this was the first time, I had no clue where anything was. BTW, I hadn't changed the oil in my own car in over six years:-)

It saved my life!
We bought our car on July 25th. We love it. We drive it close to 80 miles a day. The heated seats are great, it is outdoorsy and sporty. However, it was totaled last weekend when someone ran a red light. They hit the outback doing 65-70 miles an hour. It sheared the engine in 3 places and spun the car around 180 degrees. The grill all of the engine was crushed. The wiring harnesses went up in a flame. However, my husband walked away with bruises and a wrist injury. Thank you to Subaru Outback. It saved his life. The best car ever and we plan to buy another one.

Total package is great!
This is my first stint with a foreign maker, but so far I love it! I only have 120 miles on it (bought brand new) so my reliability rating was a 1 since I don't have a crystal ball. I previously owned a Chevy Trailblazer that I drove for 6 years. I needed more legroom and better gas mileage and got both with the Outback! The ride is smooth, quiet, and firm. I initially wasn't in love with the exterior styling, but it has really grown on me. The interior is comfortable, stylish, and all controls are well placed. I didn't need all wheel drive (I live in Texas), but when you line this car up with others, you get a lot of bang for the buck. You won't be sorry if you buy this car!

2010 Outback
I have had great luck with Subaru and we do, indeed, go off road. It works as advertised. The new one is "pretty" too. The CVT transmission works well. The small engine gets great mileage but lacks acceleration like the older models.

best ride I've owned
I purchased this vehicle for my wife, it replaced a Honda CRV, This outback is far superior to that of any on todays market. I have owned other Subaru vehicles but this is the best one thus far. It's new CVT transmission shifts so smooth. We drive the mountains of WV daily and well satisified with the power to climb these mountains with ease. I can't wait until the snow falls. We are getting 30 mpg with 2500 miles on the odemeter. We have had several friends commenting on the great looks and styling. This is a world class AWD. With plenty of leg room and very comfortable seating I'm hooked on this Subaru. I'm thinking of trading my AWD Fusion for one of my own upon returning from Iraq. James in WV
