Bad Battery?
Good car, but on my third battery in two years. The mechanic told my wife Subaru says to run it every day ,(not in the manual), and this time car was on the coldest day 55 degrees above zero Fahrenheit. Evidently, it is either not charging, has a battery drain I can't find, or Subaru has a bunch of defective batteries. The dealer claimed the charging system is ok, so I AM STILL UNSURE OF THE CAUSE. Pity, overall I love this car.

Quality in one package
A jewel hidden amongst other cars. this car is extremely likable. Did not buy the car for travel. However, after two back to back trips totaling over 6000 miles, it's gonna be my goto car forever. I see no car brand that can match it for just a good reliable performance and comfort. Subaru dealers have been the best to work with in my 73 years.

Dash display technology is TERRIBLE!!
Car drives great, especially in the snow. However, the engineers completely over-engineered the dash display screen/system. VERY difficult to make changes while you are driving, in fact, almost impossible to do something as easy as change the heat. I have almost been in several accidents fighting with the display as I am driving. I use my iPhone as my GPS like most people. However, it disconnects frequently and then I am lost and have to pull over just to restart everything. EXTREMELY dangerous on an interstate. Also, the ridiculous concept to turn the engine off at every stop has saved me all of 0.75 gallons of gas in 1 year, while the poor starter has gone through hundreds of cycles. Gas savings about $3, cost to replace the starter WHEN it goes, several $100s. Honestly, if it wasn't for the terrible software and display system, I would recommend the vehicle but it's not worth risking getting in an accident to sort through multiple menus just to make a simple change to something like the seat heat. Give me the old time knobs and switches on the dash, I know them without having to take my eyes off the road.

Nice Car POOR MILEAGE
We own a 2020 Subaru Outback Onyx XT. The car runs good and is comfortable. The eyesight system is extremely touchy and many times has locked up the brakes when there was still a lot of room in front of the car. The WORST thing about this car is the mileage. My wife drives this car and 95% of the driving is city, no hills, and the average mileage is between 18 and 19 miles to the gallon, and no, it is NOT being driven hard. If I drive the car, I have a tendency to be more into the turbo and my mileage falls below 17 mpg. In my opinion this car is severely under powered for the size car. The tiny 4 cylinder just struggles to move it and has to use the turbo charger for average driving and this sucks gas. Subaru would have been MUCH better off keeping the six cylinder. As it is I DO NOT recommend this car to anyone.

Outstanding Subaru Outback
This car has all I had hoped for in a new car. I have owned more than 20 cars in my life, and this is the car that I have been looking for for years. Although the digital / interactive aspects were initially somewhat cumbersome to understand and navigate, they offer a plethora of options and, once set up, go a long way to customize the software to my personal needs. The 2.4L turbocharged engine is great and provides plenty of power when needed, and the car handles very well.
