The 2020 revision is a surprising improvement
The 2020 improvements are noticeable during your first test drive. The ride is refined, composed, comfortable and still very capable. The Only downside Noted is the transmission, at least give the owner an option, perhaps a manual ? The CVT is only OK but overall the vehicle is an excellent value for the price- you won’t be disappointed! I opted for the premium model with the cloth seats this time. Too new for a reliability rating hence the average rating as this review required it for submission

One of the best, by far, of all the cars I’ve owne
Wonderful design, responsive turbo engine, well matched cvt. Seats are very comfortable with multiple adjustments in front. Rear seats have exceptional leg room. Cargo area is large even with rear seats in upright position. Visibility is exceptional. Driver assist and safety features are well designed, work well and are appreciated. Large infotainment screen is responsive and offers multiple settings for most features. Sound system is spectacular. A recent software update added an on/off icon on the screen providing easy control of the auto start/system. The advanced cruise control system works as it should and is also exceptional. The only negative is that the battery failed after just 3200 miles. It was replaced the same day by the dealer.

Smooth ride and very comfortable
We have had our Outback about two weeks. So far we live driving it. We live out in the country and the roads can be rough. The Subaru makes it so much easier to get down them, and does great in the Hwy as well.

CVT transmission broke after 10 months
We purchased new Subaru Outback in March 2020. It is our 4th Subaru Since 1996. The car is beautiful, comfortable. I love drive assist, blind spot detection and smooth ride. It is great in hilly terrain of Catskills. To our disbelief 10 month after driving I heard a strange noise when shifting from low to higher gear. Immediately suspecting transmission we took the car to dealer and sure enough it was indeed transmission failure. They put brand new transmission. Now we lost faith in Subaru. What to expect down the road? There was a partial recalls in 2011 and 2017 due to transmission problems. Is 2020 will falling in the same category? I am not sure how many stars to give. 5 or 1. We still love the car.

Best Car I've Owned
The 2020 Outback is a delight to drive. Mine is non-turbo. It gets around 28 mpg in all driving. On the open road, it gets 30 - 35 (extremes affected by headwind/tailwind). The roof racks are well integrated and can be 'stored' out of the windflow. Tools to remove and adjust the racks are in with the tire change tools and are a bit awkward to access for a simple configuration change, so I bought a separate 'start drive' to store in an easier access location. I have Yakima 'auxiliary' roof racks and systems which I've used with several different vehicles, changing only the towers. For the Outback I had to have an aftermarket hitch receiver since the Outback optional receiver was not large enough for my Yakima bike rack and overhead canoe rack. I also had to make minor (unauthorized) modifications to the Yakima towers (only needed 1 pair) so they would fit the Outback attachment points. I've used both extensively and have had not problems. The interior is great - I mostly keep the back seat in the folded-down position, but the rear seat backs are slightly adjustable when in the up position, which permits greater comfort for longer trips or different size/shape people. There is plenty of cargo space, especially with the seats folded down. Front seats are electronically adjustable to maximize comfort. There are USB ports under the LCD screen at the front of the console. I keep short cords plugged in to fit various devices so I don't have to 'fish' for the USB port. There is a two compartment storage bin in the console which has an upper, shallow space (good for small notepad and pen, not much else, that opens independently from the lower space which is larger. The glove box is almost entirely filled by the owners manuals that come with the care. However there are convenient in-door and in-console storage spaces which compensate for the lack of glove box space. The driver information screen behind the steering wheel is uncluttered with scrollable information that tells me everything I need to know about the performance of the car. Scrolling controls are located conveniently on the steering wheel. There is an 11" LCD screen that is incredibly user friendly and intuitive to use. Some frequently used functions (volume control and tuner) can be controlled either by touch or with 'analog' dials, as well as from the steering wheel. Environmental controls are located on the same screen and are equally intuitive. My one (minor) complaint is the seat heater controls operate as a two step sequence - first the cabin control screen is called up, then the seat heater control can be accessed. This is in contrast to the cabin temperature controls which are set directly from the 'first' screen. It should be a simple programming change that should be implemented. I have had the car for one year and put about 9,500 miles on it. Functions are monitored through a Subaru app and so far, all systems are 'normal'. I am extremely pleased with the Outback and when it comes time to replace it, I will definitely consider another Outback (which is a first for me - I have never owned the same model (or brand) vehicle as a previous model). I love my Outback!
