"SMOKING"/OIL CUNSUMPTION/OTHER

I have a 1994 4 cy. Camry that is still providing good transportation in my family at 213k miles. My new 2007 (15k) exhibits "smoke" @ startup when accelerator is depressed. I know that is the incorrect way, but having seen the smoke, I am concerned, coupled with the fact that Toyota says it can use 1.1 qts/600 miles. I am waiting on a response from Toyota. (Has anyone else dealt with these issues?) In addition, the transmission is "rough" under certain conditions and there are noises from the dash, plus I've had the radio/CD player replaced, and "Toyota: says they have not heard of any of these issues from others.

Great car

I have read mixed reviews on the 2007 Camry, but mine has been flawless. The car is smooth, and refined. It has peformed well, and you can feel the quality throughout when you drive. I can see why it is the benchmark for other sedans.

US made model disappointment

I purchased and 07 Camry LE 12/5/07. It had a J vin number. I loved that car from the very first moment I drove it. tight, comfortable. No trouble even in our cold MN winter weather. On 12/23 had a head on collision due to drunk driver crossing center lane. The car was superb in protecting me - smaller airbag so no brusies to face, but sure packs a wallop to sternum and chest. 4 fractures ribs, but I had no front end left. Pushed back to firewall. Wouldn't know it be looking at interior - still in perfect condition.l Then hoping to replace my great car, I got what I thought was the same car - except it has a 4T.. vin code. Dealer said that was made in USA. Having same trouble as others...noises in dash, seat belt relcoil squeeking, tranmission is occassionally slipping but not seriously ..yet.. have that to look forward to. And, when I start the engine on cold (below zero) the starter sounds like it runs on - dealer says it's just cold steering fluid. And all Camry's do that in cold weather. I knew from the first moment I drove that second Camry it was different. My advise - make sure to get a car with a J in the first charcter of the vin number. I think they are made better over there.

Those having shifting problems, PLEASE READ

Like many who have written reviews here, I , initially, hated this car due to poor transmission shifting problems ( 5 speed auto with 4 cyl.). However, after writing to Toyota expressing same, they installed new software & the car is now AWESOME. So much so, that I thought they dropped a V6 in it. Shifting is perfect, no hesitation at all, great pick-up and good torque. Sad that Toyota doesn't advise their owners of this improvement but if you complain directly to them, they will repair the problem. Mark my words, it will change your opinion of this car!!!!!

Sporty but Classy all in 1 car!!!

I'm 21, and this car is not your average 20 yr old(at time of purchase) single guy with no family car, as I was told. But, I have an SE I-4 model with an automatic trans. It's a great looking car and it definately sticks out among other redesigned cars in the same car class. It is a very reliable car and I absolutely love the styling (it definately gets you noticed). The first day i drove into the parking lot at work everyone turned their heads to see what type of car it was(frequently mistaken for higher prices luxury cars, ie. BMW & Lexus). As there are older model Camry's in the parking lot, mine tends to stick out (which i am not complaining). I am a little let down as far as the gas mileage, although I haven't clocked it, I seem to be filling up more frequent then I would like, but what should you expect when you go from a 1.6 4cyl 1997 Corolla and you have to travel in stop and go traffic 5 days a week. The only other thing I dislike about it is the 2.4 I-4 158hp engine is rather small for the car. I have owned it for about 10 months and it has about 11,200 miles and its kind of slugish at take off. Other than that it's an awesome car and I absolutely love it. Not just because it's my FIRST brand new car. Only recommendation, i would spring the extra couple thousand for the V6(although I never test drove the V6).

Best Camry yet

Initially, I was disappointed in the performance of this 4 cylinder Camry due to a lag in shifting (it is a 5 speed automatic). However, Toyota installed new software which was a God send as it completely changed the car's performance. Matter of fact, after it was installed I checked to see if I had the right car and not a 6 cylinder! As this was my only complaint I now love the car (my 3rd Camry). To my thinking it is beautiful as it is a black SE with comparable looks to the top end BMW. It is very comfortable and handles well. The only improvements I would wish to see would be to add selectronic to the 5 speed automatic transmission, brighten up the interior and increase trunk space. I keep meticulous records on miles per gallon and the car returns a reasonable average of 29 MPG (city/highway with 35 HWY. being the best). The car has 21,000 kms with no problems (other than the software upgrade) so far. Highly recommended. .

Very reliable

I have had this car for a year now without any problems. It rides smooth and is comfortable. Plenty of leg room and nice interior. Reasonably priced for what you get. This is my first Camry and it wont be my last.

I4, A5 Drivetrain, avoid this vehicle

This is the worst car I've ever driven. The 5 speed auto linked to the 4 cyclinder is just terrible. Step on the gas and the engine roars, rev's jump but the transmission can't find the right gear. If you're still interested in this car, take a test drive in slow and go traffic between 35 and 55. On top of that it gives plenty of torque steer and as poorly assembled interior made of low grade materials
