Not So Bulletproof

I was told by so many that a Camry was a bulletproof choice and that I would never regret it. Well after having a Honda Accord that was a nightmare and worse I test drove a Camry finding that after 100 miles it seemed comfortable enough and thought it would be a reliable change from my Honda. Went ahead and bought the V6 SE with Leather seating and some other options. Then the next month I had a meeting in Portland, OR. I live in LA so I thought I would drive. The seats are like sitting on rocks and the AC barely cools anything. Then when you sweat in the CA sunshine you stick to them like glue. So pouring on sweat and sitting on leather rocks I made the decision to pull over in Sacramento and rent another car. I did and they gave me a Ford Taurus. I LOVED IT. It was comfortable, quite, powerful, and handled well while averaging 35mpgs. The trunk was bigger too. When I returned I dreaded the car trip home in my Camry but I made it back to LA just to have the thing break down 2 weeks later. I took it to Toyota and they said it was oil starved and when the checked the level sure enough only a quarter full. They said that it was regular for it to burn oil like that, even telling me that some burn up to a quart for ever 1k miles. So I listed my Camry and got myself a Taurus and couldn't be happier. Its more comfortable, practical, efficient, economical, powerful, reliable, safer, and handles much better thanks to AWD rather than that understeering FWD on the Camry. I have owned over 5 Toyotas in my life but never again will I purchase a Toyota. Also check that this Model has 5, yes five, you read it right recalls on it. Toyota used to be a biword for quality and dependability but now I think that they have passed the torch to Ford and I will now be a Ford loyalist for life. Ford are now more reliable (check number of recalls on Ford in recent years compared to competing Toyota models), more practical, and just all around better cars. If your looking at a Camry I advise you to look rather at the competing Ford model. Run don't walk away from Toyota.

2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID

I did not feel I could afford a Prius because I wanted a "loaded car" with leather, navigation, upgraded sound system, blue tooth, power everything...you name it, I wanted it! That is very hard to do when also wanting a HYBRID. After a month of diligent research, I finally decided on the Toyota Camry Hybrid which was very affordable yet offered me the luxury I wanted. Though the Camry's only get 35 miles to the gallon compared to 55 in the Prius, it was still a big savings in gas mileage from what I had been driving so I am extremely, extremely happy with my purchase. And I could not have found it without on line car search engines!

Good So Far

The car is great. Everything is fine except that the interior design isn't as flashy as what you expect of higher end cars. It also doesn't have much speed but the engine is a 2.4 so it is what I expected. It is fine for my purposes, a family car driven to and from work and school. Eventually I will buy something sporty with all the bells and whistles (probably when my child is no longer fascinated w/ buttons!)

The 2009 Camry SE has it all

I recently purchased my 2009 Toyota Camry SE after an exhaustive internet search. And if you really want luxury, styling and performance, you cannot settle for anything less that totally loaded - SE, V6, Leather, Moonroof, Navigation, Heated Seats and Bluetooth. At $19,300 with under 30k miles, it feels and rides like a Lexus GS 300 but almost $10,000 less. They are hard to find with this equipment, but if you're patient, you'll find one. Love it!!!

08 Toyota Camry XLE

Bought this car new in 08. When one fills the gas tank, it has a thump when one starts from a dead stop. It goes away after the gas gauge goes down about 1/8 of a tank. I am to believe this is the baffles in the gas tank hitting the front of the tank. Toyota denies anything is wrong and called it "normal operation". My sun roof (never used it until a warm sunny afternoon in 2011 and thought I would try to squeeze some gas - no ac) failed to retract properly. Toyota would not cover the problem. I was just out of the warranty period by a few months. On Toyota's website they had a 1/4 quarter mile simulator, as to show off their manual shifting on their automatic transmission. According to their simulator, one is suppose to shift at 5000 rpms to achieve a 14.7 quarter mile. The car winds out past 5000 rpm's to the red line and will not shift at 5000 rpm's, unless you DO NOT have your accelerator to the floor! What??? I contacted a local Toyota dealer about this and they agreed that the online simulator was a misrepresentation. I contacted corporate and they acted like it was nothing. Well it is when you misrepresent your product! Other than these three problems, the car does get phenomenal gas mileage on the highway and well exceeds their 31 MPG printed on the window sticker. I do notice the transmission giving a slip every now and then from gear 1 to 2. The car should come with load leveling rear struts when one drives with a full passenger load. The car does not handle well with a full load. I do wish Toyota would have put the rocker panel covers on the XLE like that is on the SE. The XLE panel covers are rounded, where the SE is more squared off. The SE style rocker panel covers do not get scratched up from ice chunks on the roads in the winter time.

seats

i have ownen a dozen camrys &over the year...all reliable with anice comfy ride. i paid over 22k cash for a 2009 camry. it was the most uncomfortable ride, seat i have ever sat on. i took it to fla. & i didn,t think i would make it back. MY BACK WAS MESSED UP FOR A MONTH!!. i called the dealership & informed tacomas them it was a big mistake (toyota had changed the suspension & the seats) their only remedy was for me to trade up to an avalon (they still had the soft ride) i took a $5k haircut for 3,000 miles!! i didn,t want a 23mpg 6 cyl. but i couldn,t make it with the camry. toyota built the camry business on famalies & those of us who want reliability, comfort,& good mileage. this was quite a disappointment plus the dealership charged me an additional $400 doc fee on the trade. needless to say....I AM NOT HAPPY WITH TOYOTA!!
