Having your cake and eating it

This is my first Camry. Recently I owned a 2010 Mazda 6 3.7 and a 2012 Kia Optima 2.4. The Camry simply is a class above these two. I hadn't even driven a Camry or a Hybrid before June this year. I believe cars should go around bends when asked to, which is why I never owned one. However, Toyota have re-worked the suspension and it handles better than my Mazda, althought not quite as good as the Optima. The hard ride is new to Camry owners, but it is there, believe me. However, it holds the road well, the Bridgestone Turanza tires appear to help. They are NOT by the way, low rolling resistance tires. I've driven Turanzas on other cars and not noticed a hard ride, so I think Toyota should simply copy the Fusion or Altima and get the handling/ride better. I'm averaging between 36 and 43 mpg, depending how fast I go As an example, cruising in Kansas at the new 75 mph limit, burns about 8 miles per gallon more than crusing at 65 mph, so it's up to you really. It hits 60 mph just over 7 seconds, which is enough for me. The beauty of it is though, that in daily driving, it is as fast as my Mazda, because if the excellent CVT gearing and the electric motor with 100% instant torque kicking in to boost the gas engine, it really accelerates well. It leaves the Optima, with 200bhp, same as my Camry, for dead because it does not have to kick down 2 gears every time you want power! Build quality is superb, it feels it will go on for years! However, please be aware, the XLE, which I drive, is not an XLE as Camry fans would know. more like an old LE, be prepared to spend a fortune adding basic old XLE things like leather with heated seats, sun roof, and so on. I think the base XLE is the one to go for, if you can find one! I couldn't! The 6 inch nav screen is too small, the back-up camera is hard to see. The in dash sat-nav is hopeless, and they tell me, it cost $199 to update the maps! I could have got a larger in dash screen, but I thought I had paid enough! So, go for cloth, get heated seats fitted for about $450, buy a Garmin or Tom-Tom for about $200 with lifetime updates and traffic and enjoy. Penny pinching: There is no passenger automatic up and down window and no center vent control. All for that, this is a tremendous piece of work by Toyota. Look at the residuals and I believe this makes more sense than the standard 6 speed gasoline and it's I think much nicer to drive and a lot quicker and you wil get about 13 mpg extra on average. You really get your cake and eat it here! Well done Toyota, no wonder Mazda and Nissan are going to license your hybrid system for the new Mazda 6 and Nissan Altima.

High tech and very comfortable

Very comfortable car and quiet, with very good gas mileage and lots of get up and go. We are averaging about 41 mpg. The performance is much better than expected. We owned a Honda Civic Hybrid prior to this car and it is definitely a step up although the Civic was a terrific car also.

Happy so far

Fun car to drive.handles well Gas mileage is close to what it's suppose to get. A little bit disappointed with the ultra suede section of the leather seats. Will interesting to see what subtle changes will be made to 2013's

Hybrid is Awesome

Bought the XLE hybrid a few weeks ago, and love it. It's fun to drive, has a very sophisticated hybrid system that gives a lot of power, and has a nice finish. I'm really enjoying spending time in this car. You will too if you enjoy a peppy ride, great mileage, and especially if you have a soft spot for gadgets.

great car

I was dead set on getting the VW Passat TDI as I loved my 2001 Passat. But the quality of the inside of the car and the smoothness of the Camry Hybrid sold me. I love this car, I have had it for 2 weeks and I love driving it. Getting about 40 MPG. The Passat TDI was noisy and the interior looks pretty utilitarian, and cost more than my XLE with leather package. I think the Camry styling looks very cool. Never had a Toyota before but very happy with my purchase

sorry that I purchased it

too much hitech dashboard and ease of use (the manuals aren't explicit enough (have to spend hours attempting to learn all the symbols and use of same lots of road noise which is very disturbing on drivers side (unless you have the radio on). Handling is very good, and comfort is the same. Mileage seems to be very good, 36 mph per gallon in combination of mostly city driving. I was "stiffed" on the price negotiated at signing, all my mistake!

Camry Hybrid XLE

I did a lot of research to find my next car. After 6 weeks I look back and I am glad I did. The Camry Hybrid XLE fit all of my requirements. Yes I could have bought a flashier car, but why? This one has the comfort, looks and style of a top notch car with Toyota's reliability. What's not to like. The hybrid function is a real bonus. Not having to fill the tank every week is strange. I easily go 560 miles on a fill. I could easily drive another 60+ without worrying about it. After 6 weeks, I have no second thoughts.

Can't keep myself away from the car

We bought the car for fuel economy, reliability, and style. We are satisfied on all three counts! In the first three months, we have averaged 40.4 MPG. This in a car that is surprisingly stylish and comfortable. My interior design rating of 4 is based only on the location of the start buton. We have owned Toyotas since 1990 and it appears that our satisfaction with the product will continue well into the future.
