very unimpressed.

well my brothers truck, 2010 tundra has had so many problems its not funny. it might have been a bad truck i dont know, he treats his trucks well and this truck is junk. he bought it early in 2010 and its has ALOT of undercarrige rust, bed rust and more. and the TAILGATE COLLAPSED?! that shouldnt even happen! plus the motor is very unconisient and odd as it revs different every time which is weird. fuel pump went after 2 months, and he doesnt run it dry fills it up premiunim every time a 1/4 tank is left. i warn anybody buying a truck to get a decent truck like a Dodge or Chevy. these trucks are junk, jap manufactors shouldnt even try

A lot of truck

I was in the market for a full-size pickup for about a year. I like Toyota's reputation for reliability, and the specifications on the Tundra were impressive. I have a lot of Ford friends, and really have nothing against the F-150. I know of one that burned up while parked, and others that have had expensive mechanical problems. I met several drivers who had traded in other pickups due to mechanical problems then bought Tundras. They all recommended the Tundra as a reliable capable truck. I finally purchased my Tundra about two months ago. It pulls my boat with no problems, and I know I could tow a bigger trailer if needed. The bed is huge, and so far, I haven't needed all that room. The interior is pretty roomy too, although the center console takes up too much space. They should really offer the SR5 package without it. A bench seat would be much more useful. The engine is incredibly powerful. If you ever wanted to drag race while pulling a trailer, this is your truck. Passing is easy for a 5400 lb vehicle. The only real negatives I've found are fuel economy, and ride quality. I have a 30 mile commute, and I just won't drive this truck to work every day. The big V-8 just sucks up too much fuel. I'm kicking myself for not getting the 4.6 liter version. The suspension is really stiff, which increases the carrying capacity, but makes it bounce terribly when empty. Holding a cup of coffee is tricky, even on a relatively smooth road. Hit a bump, and you'll feel it long after it has passed.

A very impressive truck

I owned a 2002 Tundra which was 2 wheel drive with a 6 cylinder engine. I had very few problems and it was always a good truck. I bought a 4.6L, 2010 Toyota Tundra, short bead, single cab, a few months ago, it had 8K miles on it. I can't say enought about the towing. I pulled a 3.8K loaded trailer a few hundred miles a few weeks ago and I was passing everything on the highway, it has plenty of power. The transmission is smooth, it sounds great, the ride is smooth, I am not impressed about the Bridgestone tires but no one ever is. I like the center console, seats are very comfortable (I wonder why the cloth stains so easily), plenty of room behind the seats (they should have tie downs so we can strap down the items we put behind the seat), the heater works great, the A/C seems to take a lot of time to cool the cabin down, backing up this vehicle is tricky (I had a back up camera installed by a local vendor - need to see what is in back), I love the tonneau cover and easy to open tail gate (it has a spring in the hinge so it lowers easily), the gas milage was 12.5 -13.5 in the city and 15.5 on the highway with a trailer (not bad). Seems like the gas tank could be another 10 gallons so the range would be better. The engine is well laid out so that you can see the fluids with no problem. The hitch is very good and the socket that will take a round and 4 pin straight pin is very handy and well done. I look forward to many more years of driving a very strong vehicle.

Tundra number 2!!

I traded in my 2006 Tundra for the 2010 5.7 liter double cab Tundra. I wanted a bigger truck to carry my sled deck and sleds on, I am having a ball with this truck!!! It's wicked fast, looks good and no problems with it. I have been driving it since last September and have just over 23,000 kms on her.I have gotten as much as 24 miles to the gallon with it on the highway , that's imperial gallons. If you hear anyone say that the Hemi dodge is faster they are full of it! I have yet to meet any truck on the road that will touch it, even a chipped dodge diesel who pulled up to me and was lurching ahead and goading me into a race, he just got real small in my rear view mirror! If you want to go off roading you must deactivate the traction control, this is tricky, read your owners manual, but be warned if you take it off the back wheels are free to spin, that much power can be hard to control. I know I did some testing on a wet road and realized why they have traction control on these trucks. Over all it works good for me and I have no complaints. I do wonder why all the domestic guys are trying to make Tundras look bad, I don't worry what somebody else is driving as long as I'm happy with what I'm driving who cares!

Good Truck

Purchased 4.6 4x4 dbl cab Tundra edition with tow and cold weather pkg. MSRP just over 30K. What won me over - best power and options for the money; 6 speed transmission(Chevy still hangs on to 4 speed in that price range); drives like a truck with good acceleration and driving-feel that begs for a load (felt disconnected from the road in the Ford. I'm sure it is more than capable, but felt like I had to kill the gas pedal to get the thing to move); I like the column shift; the perception of quality (uncle has driven toyota pick-ups for decades, religiously keeps then for 10 years - then trades them in for the new one - now my dad has done the same for Fords...sorry Dad) I have driven the truck for a year now, have 7k miles on it. Towed 3K to 5Klb loads with ease. It is a great drive - took it off road a couple of times, but do not have a need to do any mudding. I truly hope the truck stays crisp for me, planning on keeping it for a decade. One 'need improvement' - people on the tacoma reviews talk of tranny uncertainty at low speeds then accelerating, well same thing with this truck, a little annoying. Also, the ride can be rough if you hit a bad stretch on the highway at speed without a load. Put 3K on the hitch, and the truck zooms like a caddy. I do not consider the rough ride a penalty, to me, that is how a truck should feel. I did not buy the truck to be romantic, to let the wife drive it, to take trips to the supermarket, to have my friends be wowed by the room in the back seat, etc. I bought the truck for capability and reliability without paying extra for shiny wheels and sync technology. and since I am on my 'high-horse,' I like the fact that the tundra uses more US sourced parts than most other vehicles on the road and is build in the USA. If i was truly passionate about that type of thing, I would much rather support working-class families like myself than support foreign workers hired by corporate america. I did not buy the Tundra for this notion, but had to throw that in there just to stir things up with those who care. I used cars.com to find the dealer - cars.com rocks!

First Impression

When I decided to purchase a new truck, after several months of research, I had narrowed my choices down to the Tundra or Ram. I have only had my Tundra for a couple of months but so far I have been extremely happy with it. It feels like a very well built truck with a solid amount of power. With the 6 speed transmission it has a smooth acceleration but lacks the raw off the line torque like you would find in the hemi. However, all around, the Tundra dominates the Ram

No locking rear

This is a good overall truck. I bought a 4.6 liter 4x4 trd. It gets good mpg (for a beast). The 310 hp engine does not lack for power. Well set up interior and a good ride. The biggest complaint I have about this vehicle is the lack of a locking rear differential or a real LSD option in the TRD offroad package.. serious oversight. The traction control and psuedo-ALSD is ok for on road applications but offroad it is highly intrusive, handicaps the truck as often as it helps it.. Generally it is left in the dust by trucks equipped with these options. Toyota needs to open these trucks up to aftermarket manyfactures and programmers if they arent going to create a vehicle with real truck options. I would reccomend this truck with caveats to the people who need this truck to perform in above average difficult terrain.

One solid Truck

I think there are positive and negative aspects of any purchased vehicle. However the positives way outweigh the negatives in the case of the Tundra . The truck handles well gets decent gas mileage, and truthfully if you are buying it for gas mileage you are looking at the wrong vehicle. I have not had a single issue with this vehicle. For those of you who indicate that you would rather own a more american made truck....you may want to check the manufacturing location of the Tundra (my was assembled in Texas) and the part content actually has more parts manufactured in the US than your F150 ....

dissapointed

the tundra's just are in my opinion cheaply made and bad handling. It is very rough riding, and i had to replace the transmission. I also would prefer a domestic truck, a little more american
