Great space with European styling
Great handling and dynamics for an SUV of this size. Also as spacious as a minivan but looking nice.. You can get great deals of 4 cylinder engine, however most people don't get this engine, they are not educated.

Practical and great for families with young kids
We have two young kids and plan on more eventually. The Atlas 4 cylinder turbo gives us the space we need and a lot of nice conveniences like 2nd row seats that fold forward to allow 3rd row access with The car seats still in (super nice feature). The anchors for the car seats are also super easy to access. The infotainment system is easy to figure out and the large screen is nice. Even with the 3rd row seats up, there is quite a bit of cargo space on the back along with plenty of hooks and connection points. I?m 6 feet tall and there is plenty of head and leg room in the front and the middle row. It feels really spacious, mich more than you would think looking at it outside. As for the engine, we got the 4 cylinder turbo and it does NOT feel underpowered. When accelerating it picks up quickly and the turbo kicks in at a nice point. The steering is responsive and easy. The suspension gives a comfortable ride, but it?s not mushy on the corners.

5,000 Miles, One Hiccup; Handles Well
The acceleration complaints are not merited. There is plenty of power if needed, especially in sport mode. I would not drive the vehicle in sport mode in daily driving as the shift points don't favor fuel economy. The only glitch occurred when the Auto Stop failed. The engine would run without stopping. This went on for two weeks. The dealer requested that it should come for an hour or so on the diagnostic machine to determine the problem. But the dealer is one hour away with only limited availability of courtesy vehicles. I did a full reset of the infotainment system. That resolved the problem. The Auto Stop system can be a problem pulling onto a roadway from a side street. Just as you intend to pull out the engine is stopped and takes a moment to restart. That is unnerving. So give yourself a little extra time and distance before you pull out in that scenario. The Auto Stop feature has to turned off manually every time you drive the vehicle...it cannot be permanently disabled. I leave it on for daily driving...you get used to it as it functions seamlessly. It is bigger then you think...barely fits alongside Toyota Sienna in a two car garage. Its a great vehicle in the SEL Premium trim. All the tech and handling you might need. The highway ride is smooth. We'll see what the reliability is as time goes on.

Not 5 star
Will not touch unless 5 star. Shame VW. Volvo has safety on each model, not VW. Small engine should give better results on the road

To early to have problems
Have had the Atlas for 6 wks. Sadly its already getting serviced due to sensor malfunction, wont be getting it back for a week. Dashboard displayed Brake Booster faulty, which caused my car brakes to not work properly, very dangerous for me and my family. It happened twice while driving it and scary. Not good for a brand new car having problems, not looking forward to any more problems. Also the auto on and off can be annoying for every stop the car shuts off to save power, you need to be turning it off each time you drive it. I like how spacious it is and comfortable, but a cars reliability is a big thing. And its not a gas saver at all, very expensive to keep up with gas, V6, seems like it uses up gas quicker then my V8 tahoe. First time owning a VW and so far not very happy with it. Hoping to get it back in a week and not dealing with any more problems any time soon.

big, hitech but unefficient
Mine is 2018 Atlas SEL 3.6 4motion. Pros: Color is fantastic, it is dark blue. Really spacious, excellent for family use, people carrier. Good 3rd-row space, easy access to 3rd-row, easy folding 2nd-row with a baby car seat. Support Apple Carplay, and other high-tech features. Cons: Oil efficiency is not good. After 1 month use, for city use in rush hour, even drop to 15-16 MPG. Free way around 21MPG. Combined around 18MPG. Lower than expected. Acceleration, with a 3.6 V6 engine, does not perform as powerfull as expected.

Best car I ever owned
I've owned many cars in my life. The Volkswagen Atlas is my favorite one of all. My wife and I fell in love with it at first sight. Has great lines, very bod bold looking. Interior is very nice seats are very comfortable. Engine has the perfect power for the size of the vehicle. Transmission is very smooth in all modes. Handles great. Only downfall is mpg. Could be better. But overall a awesome ride.
