My first Volkswagen
So far so good. I love my Atlas. Its roomy, quiet, loads of tech and the Fender audio system is awesome. I love the seating and I have no shortage of space to store stuff.

Disappointed in the quality of the car
I thought that this car met all my needs when I first bought in Dec 2018. It has plenty of room, and I love the look of it. After having the car after eight months, I wish I would have done more research on the VW Atlas. Within the first eight months the paint was peeling, very easy to scratch the paint, the air noise when driven on the highway is annoying and had to turn off the start/stop function because the car will cut completely of when sitting in the drive-thru at McDonald's (so embarrassing).

Drive Bigger
Volkswagen’s new catch phrase ‘Drive Bigger’ is on full display with the Atlas. We were looking to upsize from a mercedes crossover (GLA250), a fun car worthy of its own review but, in our case, too small. At 6’3” tall, headroom, shoulder room, hip room, and leg room are important. The Atlas delivers all of these, in all seating positions from the driver’s to the right side of the 3rd row seat. The driving experience is excellent as well. The 3.6 liter V6 connected to the 8 speed transmission propels this beast easily, with a very nice exhaust note to boot. 0 to 60 times are irrelevant to me, its an SUV, a big hauler, not a race car. But it accelerates strongly. It handles crisply, doesn’t lean in turns, and the 4Motion all wheel drive creates an impression of stickiness on the road that feels very much in control. The entertainment system encourages seat dancing with its rich sound and multiple speakers. Being able to use ApplePlay to access my playlists through this system is a bonus. My family has owned and driven Volkswagens since 1963, T1 and T2 vans, beetles, squareback variants, jettas, passats. I worked at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga Assembly plant as we launched both the redesigned Passat and the All new Atlas. The Atlas ain’t your daddy’s volkswagen though. Its big, its brawny, its comfortable, its roomy. In short, it is an excellent vehicle.

An Amazing Vehicle In Every Way
We looked at the 2019 Atlas SE with the Technology package and 4-Motion (which is their AWD system). In a word: Incredible!! When you sit down in the cab, it just feels classy and well built. Lots of space and very well designed. We really liked the visibility as well. The touch screen controls are very responsive and the audio system will truly surprise you. The back seat area is HUGE. I feel like you could have a party back there and invite the whole neighborhood!! The third row isn't just for toddlers either. I am 6' tall and I could sit back there and had plenty of space, including headroom. There are even vents in the 3rd row!! The "trunk" space is also among the largest we saw. I believe it is pretty much the same as the Traverse. Tons of room. One other thing we really liked was how easy it was to fold down the 3rd row seats. You would think that would just be easy in every vehicle, but it isn't. For instance, with the Traverse, you first had to ensure that the back seats are literally pulled all the way up, and then you could get the 3rd row folded down. The Atlas seats, you just pull the latch and bam, they go right down perfectly. The overall ride of the Atlas was amazing. The engine feels powerful and the transmission is really smooth. When you get the technology package, it comes with a lot of extras. Again, we got the SE w/Technology model, which is far from their top tier model, and it still came with a ton of great features --> Blind spot monitoring, lane assist, forward collision avoidance, rain sensing wipers (which are really cool), and remote start just to name a few. Again, you can't go wrong with the Atlas. Give it a look.

Comfortable ride
Like size for tall family. Second row captain seats with 8” adjustment great. Didn’t have to buy Touring price point to get captain seats. Steering makes easy to navigate tight parking lots. Love the comfortable seats.

Almost Perfect
Love everything about this vehicle EXCEPT that fact that the backup camera and side mirror warnings have NO AUDIO alerts....just visual. My much cheaper Mitsubishi which was two years old had both visual and audio warnings.

New family car
Plenty of room for tall husband and 3 car seats. Dash is not as close to me as in traverse. Touch screen for radio, etc. Easy to get the third row of seating and can even move a bucket seat fowars to get to that third row and keep the car seat on it! Cargo space a bit smaller than traverse.

Awesome SUV
I want to start by saying we’re extremely picky, because we do not buy cars often. The way we approach it is that we better get everything we want, because we’re stuck with it for a long time. We really love our new Atlas. We have the R-line and SEL package with captains chairs, and black exterior. V6 and 4motion. I think the R-line makes the car way better looking. The Atlas looks ok on its own, but the R-line package makes it look awesome. The SEL is super nice with the moon roof, digital cockpit etc. We really love the car. The amount of space on the inside is incredible. I’m about 5,11 and I can sit in the second or third row with room to spare. We got captains chairs in the second row, and I think that makes it way more spacious and comfortable for those in the second and third rows. The second row seats can move, and it gives you so much flexibility. If no one is in the third row then you can back the seat up and have tons of space in the second row, or you can move them slightly forward to give folks in the third row more leg room. The power feels to be slightly lacking. We got the V6, and the acceleration still lags a bit compared to others we test drove. I have a Ford F-150 with EcoBoost, and the difference between the two vehicles is night and day as far as acceleration and agility go. However, this car was more practical than the other options we looked at with the huge amount of space, great looks, comfortable ride etc. It’s an awesome car overall. We also have noticed some small bugs with the technology. For example, the remote start is almost useless. It won’t work from more than 10 yards. We were hoping for better so that you could cool it off on hot days and heat it up on cold days without having to go out to the car. Also, if you don’t have the remote pointed directly at the car you’re out of luck with the remote start. We can’t see our driveway from the door, so it doesn’t do us much good. The remote will lock and unlock the car from a further distance, but it won’t start the car. It also gets stuck on the reverse camera sometimes, and has a couple of other small bugs. In the grand scheme these feel extremely minor, and easy to work around. I just hope that they are things that VW continues to improve on. I want more power to make the car more fun to drive, and also some of the bugs ironed out. Also, it seems super silly that you can’t get R-Line on the SEL Premium. I was willing to pay you more money to get the cool exterior looks and luxury interior feel, and you wouldn’t allow it! Just saying. As a whole we felt it was the best option in its class and price range, and we’re pleased with the purchase. I pointed out some minor flaws because thats what I like to get from reviews, but the nice things about this car outweigh the negatives by a huge margin.
