Dont Waste Your Money

Despite regularly having oil changes and scheduled maintenance performed, I needed a new engine at less than 78,000 miles!!!! Mechanic told me that he heard other VW owners (Passat and Jettas-00-03) experienced the same problems. Never again

Great driving car? when it ran

I purchased a used 2002 1.8T GLS in early 2005 with 35k miles. Car was in great condition with a clean carfax. Great styling, and great driving? when it ran. I can't remember all the repairs this car had to have, but I have a stack of receipts for them. Repairs are EXPENSIVE. Transmission went as soon as the warranty was up. Had it rebuilt, and after countless more expensive repairs, it the transmission failed again (as soon as the warranty was up on that one). At this point, I decided to cut my losses and get rid of it. This was the best decision I could have made with this car. Every time I was at the dealer, everyone bringing their cars in seemed to be having the same problems. I will never buy another VW product again. Horrible, horrible experience. I could have purchased a brand new luxury car with the money I dumped into keeping this one running. They did get a few things right with this car. The paint/finish was very durable and held up great. Ergonomically, it was great, and the body seemed to be very solid.

My first car

The car is not bad.. I paid $5000 cash for it from a used car dealer.. that was my mistake. Brought it home.. drove fine.. week later major misfires... drove it for 100 miles with it because I was far from home and my mechanic at the time.. I'll give it credit, the car kept me going at 70mph with 3 cylinders misfiring constantly the entire way.. I was impressed. Once that was done, the emergency brake stoppped working, the cable was dry rotten entirely, had that all replaced. Then I had to redo the brake rotors and pads... Total cost after bring car home was approximately $9,000 USD.. $2000 repairs, $2050 for insurance.. Now I have an electrical issue of some kind , giving me a sporadic CEL with a circuit malfunction code, P0353, need to get fixed.. Granted, the car has had a bunch of issues, but it has driven me to and from every time without fail, and that is key for me.. reliability. Knock on wood, hope to keep this car for a long time.. PS: It's a 2.0L I4..

Worst Car Ever To Touch Asphalt

This is for the 1.8t. Basically nothing but problems from day 1. The transmission never knows what gear to be in and miss shifts like there's no tomorrow. The ride is absolutely awful and rough. The back seat is only comfortable if you have no legs. The suspension is so soft that you can't take a corner at over 5 mph without feeling like the back end is gonna slide out. The headlights can never be aimed correctly. Ive never heard of having to replace the wiper motor on any American car, or it costing 500 dollars. If u want any athleticism at all dont let the "t" fool you, a chevy cavalier drives better than this thing. DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE

super 45per gal hw driving

Original owner, clean and maintaned by the book. Manual goes with the vehicle. Vechile would be great for student traveling to school because of the excellent diesel fuel consumption. This vehicle is a Florida car, has not seen winters. Has no rust. Excellent buy for reasonable!

Reliable, great on gas and fun to drive!

Mine is a 99 model and it has been a great car.I have never had any problems with it so far. I have driven it for around 5000 miles since I bought . Also something I like is that it uses very little gas , I don't spend more than 30 dollars on gas a month. Last thing, is a car that's fun to drive specially when curving or driving over 60 mph. A good all around car!

An incredible car

The VW Jetta TDI is a joy to drive and gets better mileage than virtually every other car on the road, including all HYBRIDS! The car has tons of torque, getting you moving quickly and handles incredible well.

Great performance at any price

I have the 1.8 Turbo with the sport luxury package (came with 17" allow wheels and sport suspension). the handling and braking are exceptional. Like all VWs, as it ages, it tends to sound like it's rattling apart, but with 91,000 miles on it, I've done nothing but more-frequent-than-required oil changes (every 2,500 miles). the regular 4 cyl is underpowered, the vr6 is overpowered, but the turbo is just right. I was getting 30mpg overall until I found an oil additive that boosted power and mpgs -- now getting 32-34mpg consistently. Big trunk for a small car too, use it for snowboarding w/out a roof rack. Also, went to trade it in for a passat (awd for snowboarding trips) but the dealer convinced me to put 4 good Nokian snowtires on it instead and it goes through ANYTHING.
