Great performance
I recently replaced my Jetta with a Subaru Forrester because I needed the extra room. The Forrester is okay, but I really miss the way the Jetta drives. I did have to do a good bit of maintenance, but the performance and handling was well worth it!

my dream car that saved my life
i love my 2002. jetta 1.8t. it has been a great reliable car and it saved me when i was hit very hard by another vehicle that wasnt paying attention. most people dont realize vw's need more strict maintenance then your average car. i run synthtic oil and use only premium exxon gas. this is why many have reliability problems. if you are having an oil sludge issue just use and engine flush and you will be good as new. anyway i can definately say i will sware by vw for the rest of my life. i recommend this car to anyone but keep in mind it is a little more money to own but it is worth every penny.

Never lets me down
I've owned my jetta for about two years, and in that time I put on 48000 miles on it. Its never stalled, broken down, or had any problems besides a light bulb change. The only problem I have, is speeding tickets

It's a shame what VW did.
I owned a 1984 Jetta and loved it but got hit from behind so it had to go, so I figured I would try VW again and it was a mistake. Bought the 2002 Jetta used and started having tranmission problems about a year later I took to four different VW dealerships (under waranty) and got no help from any of them they drove it around the block and said it works fine. Dealerships are the worst I have ever dealt with. To date the things that have gone wrong window regulator, transmission, mass air flow sensor, tempeture control, no A/C, paint chipping on car and wheels, headlights lenses burned by sun and other various things. Would NEVER buy another VW.

Buyer Beware
I bought my used 2002 Jetta in 2004 and loved the getup and go of the turbo engine. Then my engine light came on. I took it to the dealer, who told me they didnt know what was wrong, they couldnt find anything so maybe I didnt close my gascap tight enough. They turned it off, I drove it off of the lot and immediately it returned. This time I was told it would need to go to a VW dealer since I bought it used from a non-VW dealership. I waited since I hadnt experienced problems and a few weeks later my car stopped shifting. Well not completely...it wouldnt go into 5th gear at all but it would the others, except for the awful lurching and clunking noises. After 2 more dealership trips I have learned there is an internal transmission problem with 02 & 03 Jettas and since the factory warranty has expired, VW wont fix my car. The problem is neither will the extended warranty company I purchased an extended warranty from as VW is aware of this issue and they are refusing to take responsibility for it. Beware, these cars are junk, VW knows it and wont issue a recall to correct it.

Good little car
I love my 02 Jetta. I love the looks, performance, most of everything. It becomes a pain though to have anything fixed since it costs an arm and a leg.

To where did my beloved Volkswagen disappear?
I once had a great experience with Volkswagen, so much so that when looking for another car I decided to try them again. I knew I wouldn't find the same experience I once had, but I figured I'd be safe with a Certified Preowned 2002 Jetta. I was wrong. The car has been nothing but trouble. It's catalytic converter, electrical sensor and AC compressor all needed replacing within 4 months of purchasing it. I'm still not sure what was certified before it was sold to me. Perhaps that it did indeed have four wheels. Positive aspects? It is as comfortable as I remembered my old car. It fits three passengers (though the leg room in the back leaves something to be desired--more leg room). And VWs Certified Preowned warranty is quite comprehensive, covering all the needed repairs (so far).
