A few warranties fixes but so far so good.
GLI package 2; 17,000mi. Fun fun car. Very peppy. Stylish but not over bering. The only problem has been a factory foul up which the alternator was threaded wrong from the factory causing it to give electrical misreads throughout the car, from the fan control(air-heat) to the electrical steering. It caused the car to not start. The second day I had it I had to get it towed. The dealer was very helpful providing a rental and the 10,000 mile service was taken care of on there part. One other thing is the power lumber is broken and am taking it in 5/29/07. This should be covered under warranty. Other than that I'm very happy and look forward to driving the car everyday. I don't like the fact that I have to put premium gas in it though. Hits the pocketbook. $3.69 a gallon hurts. I can get about 380 miles out of the 14.5 gallon tank (driving conservatively which is hard with this car) so it's not bad after all is said and done. I would recommend this car but you must give the DSG a chance for those of you that are stuck on manuals. If you can afford package 2 then DO IT! Well worth the leather, dual climate and sunroof. The leather gives the car a good feel.

Not impressed with 2.5
I have had this car for 1 year with 15K on it. I have had no mechanical problems with this car so far. I love the car's look but I am not impressed with the 2.5 engine. Someone told me this is half of the w10 engine that goes into Lamborghini's but the performance just is not there. The response is at times unpredictable when accelerating aggressively and the engine shows it's limit past 85 mph. If you love the car's look then go with the 2.0T. You get what you pay for, pay 3-4K more for the 2.0T. But then with that money you have many other choices. Also not too thrilled about putting synthetic oil changes that costs twice as more than regular oil changes.

Plus and minus
This is my 2nd Jetta TDI. First was a 2001 TDI. I put 285,000 miles on the first and did not want to wait for the re-worked 2008 diesel. The 06 is larger and more comfortable. However, even with the 285k miles on the 01, it still had more power and speed. I love the interior and exterior improvements on the 06'. The 01' got 37 mpg when it was new and 35 mpg when I sold it. I bought the 06' in August and have 21,000 miles on it already. The trunk is huge. People can't believe how much stuff will fit. I don't know who gets over 40 mpg unless they drive a standard and use it for a grocery getter. the only problem I have with the 06' Jetta TDI is the radio and air bag. Mine has the XM Radio and has been replaced once and the 2nd one is now non functional. The service department told me this morning there is no replacement radio in the US and that it has to come from Germany. This seems to be a huge problem, expecially when I am paying for the XM and can't enjoy it. The air bag ignitor went off by accident when I was on the highway. This is also a concern as the air bags did not deploy. I questioned the service department and the technician(mechanic). They are dumbfounded and haven't a clue what happened. I guess a recall will next. Hope to get the glitches fixed because I love this car.

I Heart My VW Jetta
This is my second car that I have ever had. I kept my first car for 10 years, so I knew deep down I needed a reliable car, but I had my heart set on a 2006 Mustang...I didn't want anything else. I would dream of the Mustang LOL! When my automotive dealer had this car out for me to test drive...I thought it was lovely...very sleek and sheek. Then I drove it....OH MY Gooodnesss! I fell in love that day. It has power of a Mustang, but the look and feel of a beautiful mink coat!

2.5 - ONE OF THE BEST BANGS FOR THE BUCK OUT THERE
I just bought a 2.5 Jetta package 1, w/leathette, xm, 6 spd auto tiptronic, 17" rims. It really looks great and if you did not know you were sitting in a VW Jetta you would assume it were a much more expensive car. Great fit and finish and so far no issues. Handling/respsonsiveness are wonderful. If you play your cards right and shop around you can find used or dealer demos w/low milage for substantially less then MSRP and Invoice. It allowed me to get all of the features I wanted for the price of a base model. If I had to think of something that could use improving, it is the engine noise when accelerating - a little whiney. Other then that, great car!

The serves as a Family car for my wife and I and my Son. I will tell everybody about how the new Jetta is to drive and how sale it is.If you want sport car performace and good gas milage and a family car ,Buy a new 2.0 Jetta

TDI at 12K miles
I drive a lot, so when gas hit $3.25 a gallon I decided it was time to ditch the Ford E-series and get something that wouldn't leave me penniless at the pump. The Jetta TDI is getting me 46.5mpg at 75mph (hiway) with the air on. City mileage is about 39. Car drives like a go-cart and has more performance that I need. The diesel engine is so easy operate I have to wonder why anybody would buy a gas model, unless neck snapping performance is your thing. It's comfortable, but long hauls tend to wear on the fanny. Not one problem with it so far. But the true test is if I can coax 300K miles out of the motor/drive train.

Best car I have ever owned
I just bought mine and have been getting 41 MPG as the sticker promised. I have done well, and had no problems of any kind. The sound system is clear and easy to operate, and the trunk is surprisingly large for a car its size. It is agile and maneuvers well in traffic.

500 miles into ownership
Just bought a five-speed w/ package 1. 40 mpg commute driving right out of the showroom. I am 6'3 - 255 and am very comfortable, unlike our Accord. It is much faster than I thought a diesel would be, very nimble, and gets a lot of looks, which for a 55 year-old guy is fun. Tons of nice features. No comments on reliability yet, but drivetrain in others is good. Electronics are the concern. Had to pay list, but in Wisconsin they are adding $3000 to price. When can you buy a car and have it hold its value as you drive it off the lot?
