Nice
The VW Jetta is a nice car, but even nice cars have problems. This car is easily the best in its class but it's also the most expensive. The price is not the problem. In my opinion the problem is the engine is a little weak and the interior is just a hair too small. Widen the car a couple of inches and add about 30-40 HP and this car would be PERFECT!

Fine car with a few issues
I bought my Jetta in September, 2005. First Volkswagen I ever owned. My old Prizm was wearing out and I wanted something similiarly sized that got great mileage. I bought the diesel model. When the climate control's not running, I can get 48 miles to the gallon. That's the best thing about the car. I bought the value package. I didn't need all those bells and whistles and they did jack up the price considerably. Pros: Did I say it gets 48 MPG? Great looks. Smooth ride, wonderful handling. Even the diesel model has that great throaty VW rumble. The trunk is a canyon. You could just about fit another car in there. Great pickup, even for a diesel. Great safety ratings, inadvertantly tested. Cons: Oy, those sightlines. They are awful, partly because of the thickness required for the side curtain airbags. I'm an average height guy. But I have to put the seat so high to see the front of the car, it goes above the lumbar support. Hence, I have to supplement the support with a pillow. Ouch. I dare you not to mix up the turn signal and the cruise control stalks. Could use a bit more legroom. And, it's a VW. No matter how much you save on fuel, you'll end up spending it on parts and service.

I do not know if I will ever by another car other than a Jetta. I have never had a car that I have enjoyed like I enjoy my Jetta.

Better than the Civic
I have owned Honda's since I leanrned to drive, but when I test drove the new Civic Ex I wasn't impressed. My sister told me to look at the Jetta's, and I did. WOW, I got the Jetta 2.0T out the door for about what I would of paid for the Civic Ex with Navagation. The car is fully loaded, the leatherette seats are so much more comfortable than the Honda. I am getting almost 37 miles to the gallon on the freeway. The interior has everything I need, and more in a car. It handles like a dream throught the corners. The Jetta has much more horsepower and torque, and am getting almost the same gas mileage as a new Civic. I never thought I would say this, but I will proabally never buy a Honda again. I am having a better experiance with this car than any other car I have owned.

Great car with a reasonable price
I went to my local dealership expecting to leave with an Audi A4. When the salesman steered me towards the Jetta as an "option to consider," I laughed to myself and decided to humor him. An hour later, I was signing the papers and couldn't have been happier. This is a fantastic car for a very, very reasonable price. I had a long list of features (aka, luxuries) I wanted my new car to include and the Jetta 2.5 includes them all (I got the satellite radio package) -- heated seats and mirrors, compass, leather seating, in-dash CD changer, dual-climate control, sunroof, etc. Honestly, the only unfavorable comparison I can give this to the MUCH more expensive A4 was that the manual transmission wasn't quite as smooth, and there wasn't quite as much headroom for backseat passengers. As for driving the car, it's a pleasure and a delight. with a manual transmission, I've found the car very responsive and peppy. It handles tightly in corners, with only a little bit of wobble at higher speeds (say 60 mph on a 30 mph on-ramp). When making cross-country trips, I would occasionally look down and realize I was going 90+ mph when I thought I was only doing the speedlimit!!! The car is just so smooth you simply don't notice. It's also a great multi-driver car as the power seats automatically adjust to three different presets -- two of which are linked to the two different car keys. When one driver uses a key to unlock the door, the seat automatically adjusts to that key's preset position. When the other driver uses his/her other key, the seat again adjusts itself. This can also be changed through the 3 preset buttons on the driver's seat. As for my quibbles, there are very few. Perhaps it's because I'm a tall person, but my knee keeps knocking into my key-chain if I don't remove the car key. I've also found that putting the windows down results in a little too much airflow into the vehicle (i.e., my contacts dry out in my eyes), so I usually only have the back windows and sunroof open when I want to go "al fresco." In sum, I strongly recommend checking this car out. I had dismissed it as a boring old, overpriced Volkswagen (I had my stereotypes) but once I got in and took it on a test drive, I fell in love and knew I had to have it.

The Best Jetta Ever
Compared to its boxy and somewhat unreliable predecessor, the 2006 Jetta could pass for a luxury car upon first glance. Even the "Value Edition" is loaded with features, and has also been given the highest front and side-impact safety ratings according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. With great financing and leasing specials, the new Jetta is more affordable than other cars in a similar arena. Good gas mileage, roomy interior, and a luxury-car look make this new Jetta an excellent choice for around $20,000. I love this car. Once I got in it, I told my husband we weren't leaving the dealership without it, and we didn't! I give it 5 stars all around, except on features, and that's only because at the time we bought our Jetta, the IPod adapter was not available. It is now, and can be purchased from your dealer for an extra $150 plus installation.
