I purchased a brand new 2025 Honda Pilot.
I purchased a brand new 2025 Honda Pilot. The rear hatch wouldn’t work while taking delivery of the car, but the sales person assured us it was just because the battery wasn’t charged, and it would be fine once we started driving. Famous last words. Within a week the car had 6 documented electrical issues: the hatch wouldn’t open (even manually), seat memory didn’t work, etc. Two more trips to the dealer and they “reset some stuff” so *this time* we’ll be fine. HA! Within a week the car started having MAJOR issues: steering assist, power, steering, brake assist, power, brakes, the hatch, the entire electrical dash: everything started failing while driving. Literally, power steering and power brakes went out while driving. I called the dealership and told them that they needed to tow our car in, because it wasn’t safe to drive, but I was advised to just drive it to the dealership because they would not provide a tow. The dealership literally told me to drive a car with failing power stealing failing power brakes. At this point I was the proud owner of a $50,000+ paper weight, that was just a few weeks old. Fast-forward a few more weeks, and the car is now completely dead in my garage. I’ve called Honda corporate over 40 times, just to have them ignore my calls, and repeatedly tell me that my case is closed. A different local dealer said they could look at my car, but every dealer in the area is over 8 weeks out. So even having someone looking at my warranty issue will be multiple more months. With the threat of legal action, Honda grudgingly agreed to tow a DEAD $50k+ brand new car. But the entire electrical system is shot, so even changing the battery can’t make the car’s systems even flicker. The car is dead as a rock. The car is in my garage, and has all-wheel-drive. The new 9-speed transmission on a 2025 pilot means there is no physical mechanism to put the transmission in neutral, so no tow truck can move the car. Honda sent three different generic tow trucks to my home, knowing full well that they couldn’t tow the car, and all three times the tow truck driver said that specialized equipment is needed to get a dead all-wheel-drive car that can’t go into neutral out of the garage. This is my third purchase of a Honda vehicle over 50,000, and I will never again touch this company. It sucks, but at this point a civil lawsuit is involved.

After almost 180,000 trouble-free miles with our 2015
After almost 180,000 trouble-free miles with our 2015 Pilot and an excellent Honda dealer near by, we really didn’t look hard at anything but another Pilot when it was time for a new car. Our EXL, purchased in March 2024, just turned 20,000 miles. We have had no issues with it, and the trip computer says we have averaged 27.1 mpg over the last 5500 miles. That is about 4.5 mpg better than the 2015. The good: It is extremely roomy and comfortable, even the third-row seats. We are very pleased with the fuel economy for a vehicle of this size. The headlights are the best we’ve had on any vehicle. I really like the rugged looks, especially compared the the previous generation. It’s great on snowy and slippery surfaces. The not-as-good: This is my first vehicle with all the modern safety aids. I find the lane-departure system annoying, especially in construction zones. The first time I backed out of the garage with bikes on a hitch-mounted carrier, the car automatically slammed on the brakes so hard I thought I ran into something. (Pro tip: Use tow mode when hauling bikes.) I don’t use the adaptive cruise control because it starts matching the speed of the vehicle ahead long before I would normally change lanes to pass, even with the system adjusted accordingly. However, I can’t see that future vehicles will have FEWER of these features, so I suppose I will just have to get used to them.
