If Passive agressive is your thing!!!!
UPDATE: After looking through all of the 1 star reviews this place has and the responses from the general managers...it all makes sense now and I am utterly GREATFUL to have been treated the way I was. Strange maybe, but it SAVED ME from making what could have been one of the biggest car purchase mistakes of my life..... I SERIOUSLY suggest that if your considering purchasing a car from this place that you read the negative reviews before doing so......as I SHOULD HAVE BUT DID NOT. Had I done so I would have never contacted them in the first place...... Now I am kinda excited to read the passive aggressive response I get from them!!! Should be awesome reading!!! Let's hear it boys!!! Get passive agressive with me!!! I LIKE IT!!! REVIEW: During the course of applying for a loan for a car I was seriously asked to provide the salesman I was speaking with, a picture of my credit card or cash to prove that I had a down payment for the car??? I have never been asked this at any other car dealership EVER and I have purchase 4 cars to date of the course of my life.... It was insulting to say the very least, though I am pretty sure know the root cause of the really stupid request. They wanted a copy of my bank statement which did not show the amount of the down payment available. What lost them this sale was assuming I was lying (for what ever reason?). I have 3 different bank accounts. Then one I use for bill paying and every day purposes and the other two for savings and investments. They saw the everyday account and assumed that I did not have the cash available. If they would have come right out and asked if I had the down payment available now. I would have been happy to explain this to them. However, they choose to assume and lost a sale for it.... Of course, as SOON as I said NO to the salesmans request for the picture, he passed the buck on to his sales manager saying "he needed proof of the downpayment" which was confirmation that apparently, their potential customers are not to be treated with respect or dignity. As expected when I told them to forget about the whole thing, the story changed back to oh well we don't really need it... For full disclosure, my credit score is not great, which I was upfront about with them from the start. In fact, I told them I was not sure I would qualify for the vehicle I was applying for but would like to try. (Incidentally my credit score is in the mid 600 range due to issues that happened years ago and that are being paid off....no bankruptcy so it is not horrible...just not great...) Why in the world you would treat a potential customer like a liar I do not know....but it is very bad business.... Advice to them....stop treating potential customers like they are liars.....i Advice to you reading this....there are lots of other lots out there that believe their customers.....I'd try them first...

Matt, Nothing passive aggressive here. The Proof of Down payment and Proof of income is a standard request banks ask for when a customer such as yourself has bad / marginal credit. Best of luck in your continued search.
All about honesty
That is correct, I purchased an 18 year old truck. However, I made a huge error in paying $6500 for an 18 year old truck. It took 5 weeks to get papers on a used transmission that was installed with no warranty. Like I said I made a severe error in paying that much for a truck that was not worth more than $3000. My mistake your gain. I've told several people to avoid University Motors.

Stephen, I would like to commend you for taking the personal responsibility for your purchase. I am sure that is a tough pill to swallow on all your purchases as you are difficult to please. Not a complaint on the DRIVE-ABILITY of your 18 year old truck, just a bitter complaint on the price. I am certain that the people you slandered my company to are aware how obtuse you are! Once again, we did not force you to purchase anything and I sincerely hope you find peace with your anger.
Worst experience, 4 break downs in 1 year!
In the first year after purchase, I’ve had a major oil leak, THE ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACED, and now the catalytic converter replaced (even though the whole engine was replaced.) Their warranties are worthless and they even LIED to me about what my warranty covered only to find out later I have to pay out of pocket. Everyone I’ve contacted at University Motors since I’ve purchased the car has been less than helpful. They say they’ll call me back, never do. They never have the courtesy rental vehicle available because it’s always rented out due to all the other awful cars they sell. It’s been a compete mess purchasing from here and I regret it more than anything. Save yourself the trouble. Do not purchase from here!

Very helpful staff
Very helpful staff and were very honest/up front upon purchasing my vehicle. Larry and Ron helped me with my purchase of Kia Optima. They also reviewed the carfax before purchasing the vehicle.

Enjoyable Experience
Talked to Mike on the phone and stopped by to look at a Toyota 4Runner. After test driving and getting a good feeling about these guys I decided to do business with them. They were relaxed and didn't pressure me at all. Kevin the Manager was fantastic and helped with my financing needs. Overall a very good experience and I would recommend them.

Very Poor to do business.
I needed a vehicle due to the fact that my previous ride had been totaled in a car wreck. I do not argue with the price pain. I am happy with the vehicle. I paid a $499 documentation fee. A week later I received a call that the vehicle needed to go to the MARTA air inspection station. I understand that is the MARTA documentation is needed to title the vehicle. I went and had this done. Emailed a photocopy. $10.00. Pretty simple! What is galling is that when I asked the dealer! The response was that it was too costly as not every vehicle would be sold in Metro Davidson County and was an expense they didn't wish to incur. This amount should have been included in the documentation fee? Inconvenient when I don't have a lot of spare time. I also purchased an additional warranty and it took two months for the warranty documentation to arrive. Upon inquiring at the dealership as to the status, I was told that paperwork would not be sent until later and as it was "too expensive" to send individually via post office. I was told by the manager that the warranty paperwork would along with other customers as the documents accumulated. I can not recommend this dealership due to the after the fact treatment I received. I suggest you shop around for a different dealer.

Made it an easy process.
I started my search just looking for a Nissan titan for my bf. Discovered one through this dealership and immediately got a call. I was unable to answer since id just gotten to work but we were able to communicate through text instead. Needless to say we ended up going home with the truck the next day. Mike ballard was very helpful and informative through the entire process and was doing anything in his power to ensure we get the truck we wanted. Would highly recommend Mike ballard and university motors to everyone.

Bought 2 cars
We bought 2 vehicles from here. Tried to trade in the vehicle that we bought from them with 170,000 miles for an older model. Was turned down even though our payments were current. Rude conversations with both the salesman Mike and the Manager Mark. They didn't care that we won't be back. Bad customer service.

Awesome service!!
This company gets 5 big stars. I am a new local to the west Nashville area, and I pass by University motors daily on my way home from work. They always have great quality vehicles on display, ranging from all brands, models, and prices. I recently had the great pleasure to work with Tod as a first time car buyer. Tod mindfully worked within my budget, helped me understand their process, and was painfully patient with me during the entire process. Even though I was not able to make a commitment to a new vehicle just yet, I was treated with courtesy, patience, understanding, and tremendous professionalism. I may not have purchased a vehicle yet, but I definitely know who to talk to when I am finally ready to make that next big step. Thank you to the management and staff of University Motors, and big xxxxxxto Tod for being not just a great salesman, but a great representative of your company. Good luck to all of you this holiday season.
