Almost Fed Up

I fell in love with the Impala after I rented one. I finally bought one after I drove my Taurus into the ground and thought I had a steal... 4 months after I bought my used Impala, the speedometer stopped working. Then the tachometer, then the gas gauge, and finally the temp gauge. Thank god for the electronic readouts, or I'd never know how much gas I have. I read online this was a known issue - instrument panel failure, but Chevy won't replace it... or won't replace it on their dime.... $500 to fix and no guarantee.... Other than that epic fail, the car is a tank and I love it.

Awesome Car

I've had an '04 Impala LS for 6 years, bought it brand new, fully loaded. I love it, it's had no major repairs, been a dream to drive, routinely gets great gas mileage on the open road. I have not regretted my decision. It's an awesome car! As long as you keep the oil changes and routine maintenance done, it will serve you well. The only bad thing is, there isn't alot of room for adults to ride in the rear seat comfortably - otherwise, it's the nicest car I've owned.

Disappointed in service

Ran fine for 5 years then the a/c went, has required 3 rebuilt transmissions and a new GM tranny and the car still surges or slips occassionlly, the front end seals and CV joints need to be replaced and there is a constant thumping in the front but no GM mechanics know why (I'm on my 3rd set of tires while trying to diagnose the problem because they still they still think it is a tire problem). Now the a/c has stopped again. At the beginning of the year I had to replace the signal/headlight control arm. Strong 3.8L motor, good fuel economy but all savings are eaten up in repairs

Chevrolet

I had a Lumina for 8 years without repair and my Impala 04 just had it's first repair (the gas tank gage needed replacement) in 6 years! So much for foreign cars, eh?

Stellar vehicle!

I bought the 2004 Impala LS used with 69,000 miles on it. The car is fully loaded and was stored during the Maine winters, so it's a real cream puff. My complaints are so minor I won't even write them down. I've test driven dozens of differnt vehicles and the Chevy Impala--and Mailibu--are by far the best handling and smoothest riding vehicles. Great car. Someday I'll buy a new Impala, but for now I'm real happy with this 2004.

Reliable... Good value... May buy another.

I purchased my '04 Impala brand new. Five years, 61K miles and 60 payments later, I'm still happy I did. But age may be catching up with it. After my Jeep was stolen, I was in the hunt for something reliable, inexpensive, and ea$y to maintain. I bought a base model to get me from point A to point B - nothing fancy. The 3.4 V6 is strong and surprisingly throaty when the gas is all the way out. Handles pretty well - very responsive. Very good on gas - about 22 mpg in mostly city driving. Best was 32 MPG (highway) and worst was 17 (heavy city). I haven't beaten on the car, but it's definitely been ridin' pretty hard and has withstood some punishment. The Traction Control is great in these Wisconsin winters and it starts right up every morning un-garaged. Maintenance is easy - battery, brakes, fluids and filters, - and cheap. Big plus. Repairs - In the first four and a half years of ownership, the only thing that needed to be replaced was the radio after the factory CD player died and I did so under warranty. Here's where the jury is out. Since it turned 4.5 years old, the speedometer broke, water pump went out, trunk latch slips (came open while driving), the traction control system intermittently shuts off when going from Reverse to Drive on an icy surface and now the transmission sometimes has trouble going from a dead stop into first gear (think of a mild 'Neutral Drop') Needless to say - the extended GM warranty more than paid for itself already. I know "stuff" breaks on cars, but the rapid onset of repairs with low(er) mileage has me worried about it's post-payment (and warranty) shelf life. Bottom Line: Good value for a reliable car with minimal maintenance. At this point, I'd buy another knowing I'd probably get another 5 quality years out if it.

Am very happy with this vehicle.

I bought the LS version of this car four months ago and have zero regrets. In the four months I've owned it I have put almost 20,000 kms on it with no problems. I have two children and find it a great family sedan, very comfortable. The car has decent power with the 3.8 liter. The only pet peave I have with it is I would have liked it to be a rear drive vehicle with an eight cylinder under the hood. I'm old fashioned. All in all, a great car for the dollar that I would recommend to anyone.

Good sporty car 1

I've driven over 100K miles with mine. Purchased it as a GM program car w/ 16K miles. It has been one of the best cars I've owned. Two problems that I have had involved replacing the ignition switch TWICE ( once at 83K and again at 115K ) Prevelant problem w/ Impalas and Malibu's per the tow truck driver ( he aught to know ! ) Each time you are dead in the water. Must get it towed and it is a $ 400 repair bill. Also have had some trouble with the heater damper control and fan but so far at 120K miles I haven't had to replace it. But overall the performance and handling make it a great family car. I would really recommend the LS model with the 3.8 and the traction control. The 3.8 will last 200K miles easy. Tranny is pretty solid too!

The Impala is a great car

The Impala is a sporty yet comfortable car. I bought the LS model in 2004 and have enjoyed the ride and the styling. Since I purchased my Impala my brother and cousin have purchased one as well and we all love it.
