"Its still a SS"
I was crazy about the 96 SS but now I realize everywhere I go in my 06 SS people just look and stare, I stare back and sometimes wave, and the people who are not jealous will tell you that your car looks good. I am enjoying it and I am sure that you would too....Maybe not the gas mileage, but what do you expect with a powerful car like this, everything else is well appreciated.

I'm reliably styling!
I love my Impala LT - it's super-comfortable and smooth, fast, roomy, gets good gas mileage (28 mpg highway - I don't have flex fuel), and I've only had to perform routine maintenance (oil, tires, muffler, brakes). I highly recommend this car - it's versatile - goes from family trips to night on town with no problems and is VERY affordable. The ONLY downside is that there are no cupholders in back (big deal, right?). Get this car while you can!!

Big Red
This car has NO flaws! I bought it use in 2008. I have to name it after the greatest racehorse in history because it's smooth as silk, very roomy with excellent interior features, good on gas (25 mpg city), only routine maintenance has been needed, and boy the envious looks we get are flattering. Chevrolet did itself proud with this particular year and model. I highly recommend this stylish, fast car.

Long term ownership costs too high
Have had 2006-LT3 Impala 3.5yrs now. Mileage is 108K. In short, the front end of this car is too delicate and not reliable. Have sunk my money into the following. Intermediate steering column Rack and Pinion All rotars Front wheel hub assembly These are all expensive fixes. A vacuum problem (in fuel line) comes and goes; find a caring mechanic who will clear errors at no charge. Here's my other comments. Seats are too uncomfortable for long trips. Side support sloppy; electric seat adjustment not suitable for taller people; interior trim is just average; too much interior noise(wind) at high speed on highway; standard radio/cd player is very average in sound No loose interior finish parts...thats good. Trunk space and carrying capacity are hard to beat. It needs more interior refinements and must be quieter. Even talk radio is drowned out by road wind noise. By the way..am riding on a top rated set of Cooper tires..they've improved the ride some..and reduced some noise...but not enough. Gas mileage is very good with the 3.9liter engine. Suggest using synthetic oil for even better performance. Body styling and dash layout are good. Many convenience features (eg folding rear seats) are great for hauling projects. This car is acceptable for around town. I drive 30K miles a year and its not comfortable for that much time in the seat.

2006 Chevrolet Impala 3.5L V6
Car worked ok until about 64,000 miles. At that time the head gasket failed, water pump gasket failed, water pump failed, lower coolant line was found to be leaking, oil pan gasket was leaking. GM definitely has some issues to fix in their cars. GM customer service when called was not helpful. It seemed that they did not want to listen to the issues. Local dealer repaired but the most friendly person that I dealt with throughout the whole ordeal was the secretary at the local dealership.

Great sedan
My family has owned two Impalas. The first was a 2001 and never had any problems with it. The second is a 2006 LT. Its a great car. Great on fuel, virtually no maintainence issues. And it really moves! alot faster than the Ford Taurus we had.

Wish it was better quality
I bought my SS with 5,000 miles on it and loved it the first time I drove it. I still enjoy driving it, but unfortunately I've put about $3,000 into repairs within the last year and a half from a window panel that blew off in the car wash to a new oil pan gasket (that's a $700 fix all in inself). Also, had new breaks, rotors, power steering line, tires, and the tire pressure sensors have never worked correctly. All of these issues started just after the car was out of the 36,000 mile warranty. I now have 55,000 miles on it and am in the process of replacing it. I probably wouldn't be so unhappy with this vehicle but the dealership has not been very helpful.

Not impressed
I bought a 2006 SS with 17,000 miles, on it. Pros: Great acceleration, decent gas milage, large trunk. Cons: Poor relability (thank goodness for warranty), Horrible ride quality and not much resale value. Traded in on Lexus. Sorry GM, just not cutting it.

Most uncomfortable seats EVER!!
The driver seat is painfully uncomfortable and you drag your rump (a small one in my case) across the hard plastic casing on the way out. Passanger seat feels like you're being dumped forward and could slide right out. I can't imagine a more uncomfortable vehicle. Otherwise it's a fine, generic $25,000 car.
