Don't buy this car
things that have gone wrong: Intermediate steering column 36k Transmission 37k Rack and Pinion 51k All rototars 52k The worst part about this is I got this car at 36k and have driven it to 52k. Most of the trips were long as well so the car sees very little city travel. I like the car's comfort but I what a hassel and pocket book breaker this car has been.

A reliable performer.
This car is a real wolf in sheep's clothing. Put you foot in it and it performs and it is a great road machine. Interior offers comfort and style. The am radio has never worked right because the antenna is designed for XM and FM. If you buy one new don't expect to trade it off any time soon as it has no trade in value even to the same dealer you bought it from. I lost $11,000 in the first 18 months trying to trade it in on another GM product. A terriffic car that will not hold it's value.

Good car but leaves something to be desired.
The SS Model has a surprising amount of torque for the vehicle's size, and the engine displacement on demand is excellent for long rides on the freeway. It usually gets about 25-27mpg on the open road but the driver's manual "recommends" premium gasoline for the SS. The fold-down read seats are a handy feature, the road noise can be a nuissance, and the climate control is cumbersome. I enjoy this car a lot and is quite a step up from the '99 Pontiac Bonneville I had previously.

Impala is an enjoyable car
Pros: Good gas milage -- The last 200 mile trip @ 55mph, I got 38.6 mpg on 87 octane gas from Shell. Typically @ 65 mph, I will get 32-35 mpg. Better than advertised. Gas milage seems to have improved over time -- currently the car is at 44,000 miles. Quiet ride with good amount of power. Comfortable seats with a lot of legroom. Trunk has a lot of room. Cons: Cornering is not as nice as a Grand Prix GT. The temp controls are not driver friendly at all. While wearing gloves, you can't feel the position of the temp control, so you have to LOOK at it with your eyes. A simple knob would have been much better -- left is cold, right is hot. The windshield wiper speed control has virtually no difference between OFF and the 1st setting, so if you want to turn it down to position 1, you have no way of telling if it is at 1 or OFF, unless you LOOK at it. I end up turning it all the way to off, then back up one notch to 1. Once again, this control needs a way to tell without eyeballing it. The OnStar button on the rearview mirror is very easy to press accidently when you are adjusting the mirror. No I don't want more phone minutes, I just want to see behind me! I can't tell if this was clever marketing or a design mistake.

Above Average Car
I purchased this car with 10000 miles on. It was a certified used car. I had to take it back to dealership five times in the first 8000 miles that I drove it for five differant issues. Mostly minor flaws. The comfort level is great. However there is no way this particular car that I purchased will get 27 MPG hiway driving. Even under the best conditions. I really like the exterior look. This is part of the reason I bought it. Howerever with the trouble that I had after purchase, some of which are still not resolved, I would probably not purchase this model of car again.

A Winner
The Impala is an all around beauty and now that I own one, I realize why it was among the top ten in automobile sales in 2006. Although the car is huge, it gets fairly decent gas mileage (A full tank @ 60 miles a day lasts about a week). The price is affordable compared to similar cars in it's class when you compare the included options. If you're thinking about purchasing a car you'll feel proud driving, test drive the Impala.

Impressive car from Chevy.
I have been driving many different vehicles lately in various job assignments around the country, either as company cars or rentals. This vehicle is on top of the least so far. Although Chevy could use some better exterior styling for it's vehicle to get a better gain in the car market ( yes, customers do look at the exterior as an important factor), the performance, comfort, quietness, and reliability of this car make up for it. It's ride is quiet, seat are comfy, and gas mileage despite a relatively large engine is quite decent. The stereo sound is nice and it's speed responsive along with MP3 capability, interior lighting is very good, and overall the car is very sturdy. Trip computer is handy except for the location of it's controls. The other minor things that need be displaced to make it better are location of hazard light button and windshield washer. One other negative is difficult handling on fresh snow, but on ice the ABS kicks in pretty fast and efficiently. This is among the best domestic sedans I have driven. Reasonable car for the amount of money spent!

I have alway wanted a Impala and I finally got bless w/one. I love my Impala, she drives good and picks up when I need her to. Now I don't really like the bright colors they used on the inside but its ok I can deal with it. Impala's hold their own names up!!! They speak for themselves.
