Don't Do It!!

Long story, but I purchased one on April 11, 2013. It was the SEL 2.0 motor. It has been in the shop for a rear differential replacement, torque converter replacement, and now a fuel leak. Fortunately, it met the Virginia Lemon Law requirements and Ford is buying it back. Both the dealership and Ford Corporate have been horrible to work with. As of now, I'm at least 30 days away from the finalization of the buyback, and they will not even give me a car to drive. They were also trying to force me into another Escape. There was no way I would even consider that! I was also told by a friend that works at the dealership that they had 28 Ford Escapes sitting in the back waiting for parts from Ford. I cannot wait to get out of it and move on to a reliable car!

Escape the Escape

Purchased my 2013 SEL in August of 2012, sorry to say I didn't do my homework and now regret it. Gas Mileage is not so great- at the most 23.8 combined even lower in the winter months. And yes I often receive the ecoboost award!! so my driving is good!! I have noted several vibrations- we have pinpointed one to the exhaust, sounds like it is loose, and the entire car will shake/vibrate causing cargo in the back to rattle while the car is parked. 95% of the time I cannot use my phone with voice assist unless I raise my voice so loud the next car can hear me!!! Road noise is more than I expected- I have driven Explorers for years and never experienced that. On occasion I would smell antifreeze when I parked Now with 13000 miles, as I went to work after only driving 2.5 miles bells began to ring and a screen appeared on the dash that read-* engine temperature has reached unsafe limits* pull over safely. Ford engineers are now helping the dealership figure out the problem because they are stumped!!! Can you say lemon- We want to trade in because we only see more problems in the future and we are afraid it is going to nickel and dime us. Lesson learned -DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Don't just buy because it looks good!!!

good car

bought this car with 7K miles on it. Love how Ford did a whole restyle on this make of their car. I like how it drives so far. allthough it does seem to take a little to get it up to speed on the freeway. I bought the 2.5 engine, it is pretty basic, no heated outside mirrors or sensors for the lights. very good car so far for the money,

First vehicle I ever purchased - FAIL

I replaced an ailing 2003 Grand Cheroke with a 2013 Escape SEL, 1.6 Eco, with MyFordTouch, with moonroof. Great deal with Z plan. One year, and 31k miles later (I drive a lot).. I'm looking to get rid of the thing, and dealing with major regret over ever buying it in the first place. It has been a constant saga of things going wrong. 1. Rear sway bar link had a chunk of tire hit it while I was driving on the freeway. It blew out the linkage. In the past, I've broken these, but only when off-roading in my Jeep. Never while rolling on the freeway. 2. Fuel economy is nowhere near the estimate. I have a 21mpg average. I've been able to get the Ford Edge and Ford F150s as loaners from my dealer while the Escape is in for it's many service calls, and (not changing any of my driving habits) have had better gas mileage with those. Totally unacceptable. 3. My factory installed panoramic moon roof leaks. The moon roof and all of my windows were closed, and we had a heavy storm come through, and the following morning I had a wet interior. My headliner was soaked from the windshield on the driver's side all the way back to the edge of the moon roof above the rear bench seating. That was blamed on a clogged air conditioner drain. In the headliner? Ok, sure.. 4. A seat module (the one that allows the seat to slide backwards and forwards) failed and needed to be replaced. Kudos to Ford for providing me the challenge of operating a vehicle with my knees tucked towards my chest.. ::sarcasm:: 5. My tire treads are noticeably worn. Almost to a point of nearing replacement. After 31k miles? Come on.. I drive a lot of highway miles, and have been incredibly tame with how I've treated the Escape. There's no way I should be worried about the tires this early. 6. An O2 sensor failed (at the 31k mile mark). Perhaps that can explain away my horrible fuel economy. 7. Literally minutes after picking up the Escape from service on the O2 sensor, I went to click the window buttons for both front seats to enjoy some fresh air. Both went down, but instead of continuing all the way down as they're supposed to, they only function when you're holding the controls. No more automatic windows. 8. In harmony with what many other reviews on here have indicated, my Sync has been a major pain. Lots of different problems, all with the same console. Every so often, I won't have any sound. No radio, no CD, not even the tone from summoning your SYNC hero. Need to shut of vehicle, open door, then start it and hope it fixed the problem. Or, I'll hang up from a phone call, and it'll freeze up and think I'm still connected. As long as the call duration screen is up, I can't change radio stations or make other calls. Or, it will randomly freeze all together. No phone calls, no changed stations, no control other than to manually turn down the volume. On top of all this, I got to experience the recalls in all their glory. Between the recalls and all of the scheduled service appointments, I'm closing in on two months of time in the first 12 months of ownership where my vehicle was at the dealership getting repaired. I'm very disappointed.

Sync/Touch is a disaster.

This is the third new Escape for us. The gen 1 was a great basic car. We had it seven years. The gen 2 was reliable, but not much fun to drive, and we only kept it three years. We read great reviews about the current gen, and went with a new Titanium. The car drives nicely, and it has been reliable so far, except for the electronics. My wife runs a business and needs it to work with her iPhone. The gen 2 never had any issues with the iPhone, but this one has constant problems. The navigation system is the worst thing I've ever seen. It's so bad that she has our old cheap GPS stuck to the window above the built in one, and she uses that. It can take 10 minutes for it to calculate a route that the little one does immediately. We've had it into the dealer for various Sync/Touch related issues so many times I've lost count, including once when the whole console completely stopped working. In short, don't pay for the electronics package. The basic car is OK, but Ford has completely failed with the electronics.

my last Escape

This is my fourth Escape and I loved my first Three. this one however, I bought in the S style.IIt is very cheaply built. the center console with the gear shift and Usb port all together are very cramped and hard to get to. My sync system works sometimes and sometimes just stops freezes and I can't make a call, listen to the radio , nothing. Then once I have turned off the car and left it for a while it just comes back. I get terrible mileage. even with combined city and hwy I cant get over 22-23mpg. I think Ford spent their money on the eco boost and rear step opener as selling points and put the scraps on the economy model. I guess my money is not good enough for the Ford models I can afford. I won't buy another. I am looking a my husband's Honda CRV seriouisly when I trade.

Would not recommend this car

First of all, I do not own this car. This is a company vehicle. I do not know how that will affect your opinion of this review, but what I can tell you is that if I did purchase this car I would have been deeply disappointed. The problem with the positive reviews of this car is that they were probably taken shortly after it was purchased. I initially agreed with the positive reviews when I just got it, it is a nice car, but after driving it for 6 months I can now see that it is a cheaply manufactured vehicle, despite the cool gadgets. I loved all the cool little features, but 6 months later my USB that connects my iPhone stopped working, my Bluetooth stopped working. The touch display works about half the time. Even the clock doesn't work! How do you mess that up? And I find this quirk strange; the mileage counter for Trip 1 and Trip 2 both accumulate miles simultaneously. For example, if you zero out Trip 1 and 2, and then drive 100 miles on just Trip 1 and then switch over to Trip 2, how many miles would you expect to see displayed on Trip 2? Zero, right? because it was zeroed out, but instead you see 100. What is the point of having two mileage counters if they both accumulate miles at the same time? I also personally don't think the car is comfortable because I'm a big guy, but others might not agree. Biggest problem, it has low MPG. I am averaging 23mpg. The two good things I will say about the escape is that it does handle good and it does have good acceleration. All-in-all, this car was a good idea that was manufactured a little too cheaply.

Excellence

I love my new 2013 Ford Escape so much! It is the first new car I've ever owned, and I think it's fantastic. I purchased the Titanium 4 wheel drive model with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. It has an EPA estimated 24 mpg combined rating, with 21mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway. This was a little discouraging at first, but I've found that those are low estimates. I usually get around 30-32 mpg highway, and my city mileage is more like 23mpg. Overall I rock a solid 25mpg average with about 60%city 40%highway driving. Some people complain that the gas mileage is not as advertised, but it depends a lot on how you drive. If you read in the manual, there are all these tips and tricks that they give you for maximizing fuel economy, and they REALLY help! Ford's information panel also tells you how well you're doing at anticipating breaking and keeping your speed at a reasonable number, which are two of the biggest components of maximizing fuel economy. My one complaint is that the pain job does seem to be a bit questionable. I've noticed a few (very small) chips recently. I'm also extremely OCD and no one else would probably ever notice, but I thought I'd mention it. The 2.0L engine is really nice!! I go to college in Vermont, and it handles so nicely on the hills. The 2.0L engine is a must if you live in a hilly place. The escape also handles like a dream. It turns corners effortlessly and tackles windy roads without fear. It handles much like a sporty sedan. Overall, I love this car. Extremely functional, extremely stylish, and the add ons are really quite luxurious. Two thumbs up from this guy!!

FORD DOES IT AGAIN

THIS VEHICHLE REPLACED A FORD PRODUCT. AS ALWAYS FORD DOES A FINE JOB. VEHICLES ARE RELIABLE, CONFORTABLE, AND I WOULD PURCHASE NO OTHER MFG. PRODUCT. I LIKE THE DESIGN, OF THE INTERIOR, AS WELL AS THE EXTERIOR. HANDLING IS GREAT AND BOY DOES THIS ENGINE HAVE THE GET UP AND GO WHEN NEEDED. JUST DOING THE BREAK IN ON CAR SO CAN NOT TELL YOU WHAT MY MPG WILL BE, BUT NOT BAD A 24.8 FO A CAR WIT LESS THAN 2500 MILES.

bad paint

My biggest problem is the paint. I have only had the car for six months , it has 6375 miles on it and it is full of stone chips. I am sure it is poor paint but of course stone chipping is not covered. The person at the body shop said it was poor quality paint. The neighbour has a 2011 and it has no chips. Also you do not get the gas milage they say you should, otherwise it is a good vehicle
