Most appealing car
I have owned and driven several hundred different types of automobiles in my life. The new for focus, especially the titanium edition is a lot of high tech car for the money. With looks, comfort, conveinence, and fuel economy its simply the best.

I'm glad I bought this car
I have the 2013 Focus Hatchback. At first, I had the "click click click whir whir click click" sound when opening the driver door. It probably kept going for about 15 minutes or so. Also, I had the grinding, rattling noise when the transmission shifted from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I discovered a Ford TSB online. I took it to the dealer. They performed the TSB which reprogrammed something in the computer(s) and reset the transmission back to it's beginning. Since then, I have had no problems with any noise coming from the transmission and the acceleration is smooth from the start. Just Google 2013 Ford Focus TSB 13-4-18 It worked for me. So as far as the rest of the car. I really like how easy it drives. I am from an era where a V8 was the only engine to have. I am so amazed at how much power they get out of a 4 cylinder. Right now the mpg is at 35.5 with a little over 4000 miles on it. So I am very happy with everything about this car. Yes, the rear seat is not roomy but our kids are grown and the grand kids are still little. I had an '09 Focus that I traded in on this one. Good move for us! A+++++++ to Ford

Dont buy this car
I bought a brand new 2013 Ford Focus 2 weeks ago. I bought it because of the MPG. It ran great when I test drove it. Transmission started making grinding noises and jerking when taking off from complete stop. Im at 424 miles now and it makes grinding noises when I take off and when making a left turn. Ford said it needs to break in. I have owned 3 brand new cars (not FORD) and NEVER had a problem with any of them. To think I traded my Toyota for this car, HUGE REGRET!!! Wanted to buy an American product and support this country, what a disappointment.

It's a good car
We only have 1900 miles on the car but the only complaint is the "auto" transmission. Kind of jerky sometimes in low gear and accelerating. Rides well, seems to have enough power for us. Had it out on the road today, mostly highway (not interstate) running 55-65 mph. Gas mileage at the end of the trip was 44.3. Granted, I'm light on the throttle and it is No. IL, pretty flat but even so, it's a great car.

OK, but . . .
I had a rental Focus sedan for about 2 weeks and found it to be a mixed bag. . The good points: It's a VERY comfortable car with a solid, easy ride. It has a lot of features for a vehicle that's only a step or two above entry level, including automatic lights, speed-sensitive door locks, and the most ergonomic steering wheel I've seen on any car I've driven. Its external styling is sleek without being overdone, although I really could do without the two Tinkertoy-like grille bars that resemble a pair of struts holding up the hood! Mileage was very good at 30+ mpg around town. . Now for the not-so-hot stuff. First, the automatic transmission leaves a lot to be desired. Shifting is rough even under mild acceleration, and if you have to kick a bit to get onto a highway be prepared for a jerky gear change. Transmission technology has really improved in the last decade but the Focus' gearbox is behind the times. . The interior also leaves a lot to be desired. Bluntly put, both styling and controls need a _complete_ rework. Every surface except the seats is sculpted to the point where it looks like the designers were playing with cake frosting. Even the turn signal and wiper stalks have lumps, bumps, and folds that make it difficult to use the controls by feel. The dash has a bat-wing layout that afflicts everything from the radio controls to how air comes out of the A/C ports. Buttons sweep up at a 45? angle so you can't just move your fingers across; you have to know whether to move up, down, or diagonally. As with the steering column stalks, the design almost forces you to take your eyes off the road. And as others have noted, Ford hasn't done anything to simplify access to driver electronics. The on-board computer readout produces cute animations, fine for an iPod but distracting while driving. Worse, even simple commands require pushing multiple switches on one of two separate navigation pads which yet again takes attention away from the road. . Bottom line, the Focus isn't a bad car, especially if you like Fords and can let your passengers fumble with its interior's unusual ergonomics. If not, there are plenty of competitors that could be reasonable alternatives. If it had a better interior and a smoother transmission I'd give it an A-, but those two knock it down to a B- or even a C+ in my gradebook.

Grinding Noise fixed
I had the same grinding noise on my new 2013 Ford Focus and was told by the service director that this is typical for this manual transmission with electronic dual clutch(not a true automatic transmission). I also had the clicking noise in the front when opening the door after parking overnight. Another blog refers to TSB 13-4-18 which is a fix for the clicking noise and that TSB also states that upshifts may be "firmer" once this software upgrade is done. I had that TSB upgrade and for the first day the grinding noise continued, but this is now day 6 and while there is an occasional grinding noise when shifting to 3rd gear, mostly on a steep hill, I would not be aware of the noise except that I listen carefully for it. If your Focus has not been upgraded by this TSB 13-4-18 you might want to discuss it with your dealer. As far as I'm concerned this fix worked on my 2013 Focus though it took about 3 days for the "adaptive transmission shift" to relearn how to shift properly.

Fun to Drive!
This car is a little to cramped for tall people, not much room in the back row for seating, but great to drive, great on gas, and not to bad looking either. This car does get better mileage the longer you drive it. Here's my averages over the first 3K miles. E85 = 23-26mpg Reg = 28-30mpg Mid = 29-32mpg Prem = 30-34mpg
