Cramped, Dark, and with an Annoying Auto Trans.

I had not had a pleasant experience with a new 2013 Focus. At 5'9 220 lbs, I found the driving experience cramped with my left leg constantly against the drivers door. Rear visibility on the 5 door hatch is not great, as all of the windows are narrow. I hate the technology features (I know I am in the minority here), there are tons of buttons on the dash for phone and God knows what else. There must be 50 presets on the radio or more. It takes 5 presses on the button to toggle between AM and FM stations. The car handles well with the 16" wheels, but not particularly sporty- I'm sure the 17" wheels would be a better choice for my style of driving. The worst issue is the automatic transmission. It seems as if it wants to stay in the 500-750 RPM range for an extended period of time then suddenly surges toward the high RPMs. The shifts seem sloppy unless you are giving it spirited acceleration. It is the most difficult automatic trans I have ever experienced to drive smoothly- reminds me of the first month I drove a manual trans 30 years ago.. The back seats are useless for anyone with legs sitting behind my 5'9 frame. I don't know how anyone much taller than me could fit in this car comfortably. I love Ford products- currently own 3 , but I definately would not recommend buying this car without test driving it- very disappointing car.

Loved it for the first 100 miles

Where to start.... I don't drive much since I work from home so I just needed an economic car to get around town. Drove the car around and loved the way it handled and the technology especially the hands free features. Then the noise started. The car start making a grinding noise like I was driving a manual and wasn't operating the clutch properly. It also seemed like it wanted to stall several times. I brought the car back to the dealer to have them look at it and was told that there was nothing wrong with it. When I went into the dealer to pick it up the technician actually came out to talk to me and he stated that this is normal for the car and the car needs to "learn" how I drive. Got in the car and it started making the noise before I even got out of the lot! Brought the car home anyway and I will wait until I hit 1k to see if this continues. How long does it honestly take for a car to "learn" how I drive and since I don't drive the car often, I am concerned that this issue will not go away. I was planning on passing this car to my son in a few years when he learns to drive but I don't see that happening. Can you say warranty? I think that I will be using that often....

Good Car

The new Ford Focus 2013 SE is really a great looking car. It drives really nice but you have to get use to the hesitaion in the acceleration, which is normal. It is very smooth driving. The only complaint that I have are the interior front bucket seats. They are hard and uncomfortable and you could feel the medal bars on the edges of each seat..I ended up having more padding put in and having the bars removed. Ford should really take a look at this problem. Otherwise it is a great car.

Best Value Best Drive

Love this little car. Its stylish, gutsy and getting 38 mpg even in the city driving!!!! Can't beat that! Super performance, steering, cornering and in the mountains. Hwy getting 42 mpg. Mountain passes 38. It's a wonder! Love Sync, hands free phone, directions, road info. Wish it had digital speed and power seats! The heated seats are a plus though. Thanks Ford for another great car!

Replaced by 2001 Taurus... love the MPG

I replaced my 2001 Taurus with this. It's great. I'm saving over $150/month on gas and averaging 34.5mpg. I love the redesign Ford did last year. The car feels bigger than it is. Rear leg room is wanting though. Sync is pretty cool, but it takes some getting used to. I had to check the manual a few times. Voice control is great. Sync even paired up with my cheap Tracfone. It's pretty great to flip the button and say "Call Home". I priced some used cars, but the prices were sky-high. $2K more and I have a new car. Tons of rebates. I bought the SE for Cruise Control.

Transmission is horrible!

I purchased my 2013 SE in January of this year. First brand new car I have ever had. And it's transmission shifts worse than my old 2001 Hyundai Accent that had over 100,000 miles on it. It shutters and acts like it is going to stall while searching for gears. Lurches forward in stop and go traffic. Rolls forward after putting it in park with emergency brake on too. Took it into Ford around 4000 miles to have it looked at and also get my digital console monitor replaced because it went completely out. They said they hooked it up to their computer and I just need to have the transmission reset back to original settings. I was also told that my clutch on may automatic transmission needed to be broke in and to bring it back around 10000 miles. Car still drive just as poorly as before. What a disappointment for a brand new car that cost around $20000. Will continue to take it back in to Ford's service center until this is fixed. Glad I bought the extended warranty.

Love This Car

I love this car and look forward to driving it. It handles like a much larger car. Gas mileage combined driving is 32 mpg, cost about $30 a week. The automatic trans is different, but it works as advertised. It shifts like a manual transmission, reaching the higher gears ASAP! Once you learn how to drive the car it's GREAT!!
