best car for the money

I got the 2010 Taurus SEL. This was my second Taurus (first being 87 Taurus), besides two Ford minivans over the past 15 years. Never owned Ford stocks, but love their cars. Though Ford cars are not the most refined, but they are reliable, gas efficient, and well build overall. The latest 2010 Taurus model is silky smooth, sufficiently powerful (not a tire burner for sure), and the SYNC feature was done just right for me. I do like the paddle shifter, but don't know how reliable it is. The interior leather for the one I bought (the only one available at the time) is black, which is kind of silly considering the California sun, and the leather could be a little more supple. The windshield cracked from a tiny flying rock on the road...shouldn't be that fragile. Other than that, I have no other issues...we have an S500, but both of my teenagers always want to drive the Taurus. That speaks for itself. Wish I bought the SHO though.

First Sport Sedan

The 2011 Ford Taurus SHO powerful, responsive and the most comfortable car I've ever owned. It is a dream for long trips. Getting 21mpg in mixed driving. Also, it has a great stance. The styling is dead on. The only thing I don't like about is the rear exhaust tips. I hate the pipe within pipe design. Will be taking care of that with a cat back system.

Great Vehicle with size

I looked and looked and kept comming back to the Taurus. Glad I did. Beautiful ride, styling and fuel economy. Only downside is a tight cockpit design for the driver. I love the Sync system! Great buy.

good value for money

I could not get comfortable in the car. It was a SHO, all wheel crive, yet the handling was subpar for an all wheel drive. This car does not not come with a spear, and microsoft sinc doe snot have signal everywhere.. Ride comfort was below expectations for the price The features and options were outstanding, more than in a standard BMW, the acceleration was beyond belief.

Many likes. A few dislikes

Starting with the most important factors..... THE DRIVING AND PERFORMANCE: I think it could have better acceleration. Drives great on the highway/expressways. I drive crazy for a living so when it comes to handling i'm very picky. I think it responds well. I've made those tires squeel on turns numerous times to test it out and it is satisfactory. INTERIOR: I have heard many complaints about the trunk release button being on the passenger side (NOT A BIG DEAL). I have heard people complaining about the rear visibility (You get used to it. I also recommend getting the rear camera if you can, It helps with that rear visibility issue. Heated seats are nice. Cooled seats really aren't that big of a difference (don't waste your money on upgrading to get the cooled seats) Push start is really nice and take some getting used to. Don't care for the stereo controls on the steering wheel. I favor them on the left side. As for the Sony stereo itself? 10 out of 10!! LOUD and very clear. I don't dare turn the volume up past half way. Ambient lighting is pretty neat. You can change the color of the lighting from green, blue, red (purple-ish?) or just turn it off. Reviewers have complained about the the dash being "button" happy. It is but after awhile you just don't pay any attention to the buttons you really aren't using day to day. I can't comment on the Sync feature since I haven't used it. And I'm just starting to use the ipod or mp3 player hookup (so far so good). Keyless entry feature and intelligence key are really a great feature and I highly recommend having that. Oh and there are a zillion different cup holders. GAS MILEAGE: has been pretty good. Sorry i haven't been tracking what i'm exactly getting. INTERIOR SPACE: People and critics have issues with the headspace and all. I think and my passengers have had no complaints. It does appear that having a moonroof does take away a couple of inches of headspace. Maybe 1.5 inches at the most. Lastly, if you are an SUV owner and considering buying a Taurus. I strongly strongly suggest getting the cargo organizer for your trunk. (hard plastic carpeted to match your trunk one) Makes your trunk feel a little bit more like having a SUV type of organized rear.

2011 Ford Taurus SEL w/rapid spec 202

Pros- Quiet ride.Vehicle handling is pretty good.Exterior styling. Sony stereo.Trunk space. Numerous cup/drink holders. Sync system. 19" rims. Push button start. Cons-Garage door opener should be standard. Trunk release button on passenger side of dashboard. Looks bigger on the outside than what it actually is on the inside. Moonroof does not automatically close when vehicle is turned off. Gas mileage isn't great but isn't horrible.

Not The Most Car For The Value

I own the 2011 Taurus. I also owned other Ford CV and Mercury GM cars. The 2011 Taurus does not compare. Yes, it has more HP and electronic gadgets, but 2011 loses when it comes to attention to detail. Small Truck opening, back seat head room (wife 5'4" complains), Front Head Rest does not match head and neck structure, Center Console size toooo wide, Blink spots every where, door moldings do not match door metal, and the list goes on. Someone was asleep on the job for the Taurus styling. Ride is a little hoarse due to 19" rims (feel too much of the road). I got stuck in snow 4 times in one day. $400+ per tire (performance) and second set for winter (never saw that on coming). Gets good gas mileage and handles well. FWD is not the best, pulls to right on acceleration; this is not good in snow or rain. I have seen a couple Taurus' spin outs. Taurus running light projects little light on the road. They look nice but not very functional. I would prefer the older style curb lights. Other then these issues, I still get excellent complements about the color and vehicle style. It does stand out in a crowd, but could not in good conscience recommend this vehicle to a friend or relative.

Ages Fast

Was a happy owner of a newer Mercury Sable and was planning on buying another until Mercury was discontinued. Wanting to stay with Ford Motor Company, I bought a bright red '11 Taurus Limited with nearly every option, including navigation and a power sunroof. After a short period of time, the "My Ford" system stopped working, a clicking noise behind the dash surfaced and the power seats began to fail. If that wasn't enough, the car now tugs to the left. The dealership is perplexed by all but the power seats, as the entire system had to be replaced and I can adjust the seats again, hoping it has been fixed for good. I love the way the car looks, but would never consider owning another Ford product. Fortunately, our silver Mercury was a peach. Now wishing I had held on to it.

Not Quite Right

The looks of my Ford SHO are impressive. The quality is not. Had dozens of Ford products over the years, but this new one is not worth its $48 grand price. I have talked with other owners and they think as I do that the car needs RWD with AWD as an option and a V8 for a car of its class and price. The ride is not great. The Lincoln MKS has far more to offer at a similar price and the car is more comfortable. The SHO looks bloated, but still sharp and the interior is cheap. The mood lighting looks too boy racer and out of place in a near $50,000 sedan. I would be happier in a Fusion, I think, but really thought the SHO sounded great on paper. The car has lots of odd shakes and vibrations, despite repeated attempts by the service department to correct them. I am skidish about buying another Ford product. I am thinking of trading the car in for a new '12 Volvo S60 AWD turbo or '11 HEMI-8 Chrysler 300c with AWD. They both seem like better bets and you get a lot of car for the money with either. The SHO is over.

Not Worth it!

I love the sharp looks of my new Ford Taurus SHO, but I expect more for a car costing $20,000.00 more than I think it is worth. It is fast, but here are the downsides: Price; poor gas mileage; uncomfortable seats, "MY-FORD" & "FORD-SYNC" systems are way too complicated and voice commands rarely work the first, second or even third times; the massaging seats hit your "bottom", but that's it (strange!); fit, finish and materials cheapen over time with lots of rattles, loosening of gaps, shotty parts and much widening of gaps; the ride suffers with so called "sports suspension", yet handling does not excel in return; more orange peel than in any car I have ever owned; etc. Yes. There are likes, but at nearly $50,000.00, I cannot justify the mainly cosmetic-only perks. The car is powerful, but the car pulls to the right when you put the pedal to the metal. In retrospect, I should have waited for the 2011 Dodge Charger R/T with HEMI V8 and AWD, but the lease on my 2008 Mustang GT (car traded) was up before the '11 Dodge Charger was released and I really wanted a sedan, thus, did not look at the 2011 Dodge Challenger. Also, the Challenger and Mustang are NOT offered in all-wheel-drive. In short, a car costing as much as the '11 SHO should be more refined and have RWD based AWD (at least as an option), get better MPG and a large V8, such as that on my dearly missed Mustang or either the 5.7 or 6.4 liter HEMI's found on the '11 Charger/Challenger.
