Nice but boreing

I had to put my 2002 mercury cougar in the shop because someone rear ended me. For a rent a car they gave me this for two days. The LE model, options unknown. First off let me say that it is a nice car for people of all age groups and styles... also It rides very smooth and has nice acceleration for a 4 cylinder engine. Unfortunately I am a 25 year old single working man coming from a history of sports cars. My mercury cougar is fun to drive. I look for excuses to drive it. The corolla however is a different story. In the two days I had it it did get compliments from a few friends but they did not drive it nor would I let them. The interior is very boring and reminds me of a cubical. The stereo is not bad just because of the tweeters but do not turn the bass up because its garbage. The steering seems very loose to me for a car with 3000 miles on it. It is a good car for someone who enjoys a boring ride or wants 30 mpg, but i'll stick with my 20 mpg cougar anyday.

Sweet Redesign

Never gave the corolla a second look until we spotted this new 2011 type S at the dealership, nice job on the redesign. Resembles the Mazda 6 a little bit, but thats nothing to complain about because the 6 looks very sporty. Wife takes it for a drive and loves it, very quiet comfortable ride, it goes when you step on it, fully loaded and even has the cool aero kit on it that the kids with the hondas love to bolt on. So I suggest we drive all the other cars that are anywhere near the corollas class, we even drive a few that are twice the price, nothing impressed us until we drove the new 2012 civic. So now we have a tie, well the tie breaker was that the fully loaded civic EX still didnt have all the features the corolla had, hey honda when are you going to start getting the hint, we love aero kits! ok yes that new civic gets a tad better fuel economy, but then we did the math and its a few grand more and we would have needed to add on some features for it to match the corolla, so guess what car won. So now its my turn to drive, i floor it, pretty good acceleration, i hit the freeway and stomp on the gas and it screams past everyone and the salesman is hanging onto for his life, i fly around a few corners, wow! it corners like a damned race car, minus the race car motor ofcourse, but it still has plenty of power for a little 4 cylinder econobox. ok now im sold too, this came out as the best bang for the buck, good work Toyota! Seats are more comfortable than our Honda Pilot, ride is a million times nicer too, but the corolla gets twice the gas mileage and is way cheaper than a Pilot, if this corolla could pull jet ski's i think i would have to ditch the honda :)

Great Car for the Money

Great car for getting around town. Got the Sport model and you cant beat the syling and the interior. Thought I wouldn't like the black seats but love them now. Cant beat the gas mileage either 32mpg+. Would recommend to anyone not needing a big family car and wants good mileage.

Rolling mediocrity

I don't own a Corolla but have rented one enough times from Zipcar to have formed an opinion. I hate this car. On the positive side, the seats are not uncomfortable. Now the negative side, beginning with the seat upholstery. Like everything else on the Corolla, the cheap, gray, mouse fir like velor upholstery looks and feels horrible. The dash is made up of outdated looking, ovular shapes injection molded in hard shiny gray plastic. The exterior of the car is a bland three box design with awkward creases and bulges, apparently intended to impart style but only lending the car a misshapen look in my opinion. Acceleration is glacially slow (with the base engine offered by Zipcar anyway) and torque steer -- where the steering wheel shudders as you brake -- is pronounced. As for reliability, I can't really say since Zipcar maintains the Corollas I drive, though the Corolla has been recalled several times in recent years. I can, however, attest to the many cheap plastic parts that have broken (e.g., the ash tray door no longer closes on one car) or fallen off (caps covering screws on the driver's side door) the Corollas I've rented. I am completely bewildered by how many Corollas Toyota sells in the U.S. market, given that almost any other compact car would be a better choice.
