Decent Economy Car

I purchased my 2011 Toyota Corolla S in late May 2011. The car is black with a rear spoiler and sunroof. I currently have 4100 miles on my vehicle. I would have like to rate this car a 3.5 but the option doesn't exist....even though the value weighted average would indicate a rating of 4, for me the flaws in this vehicle overshadow the positives. Positives: -Good value for your money -Toyota care was included (2yr/25k free routine maintenance) -Excellent finance rate (1.9%) -Wonderful body design...I especially like the profile of the vehicle -One touch power sunroof -One touch power driver side window -So far excellent reliability & no mechanical/electrical problems -Very good handling & comfortable ride -Superb gas mileage...I've average for all miles 26.6 mpg, 70% city / 30% highway -Comparably quiet interior, even on the highway -Chrome outline gauges, and a fairly nice dashboard display -Power mirrors are easy to operate -Good trunk space -Split fold seats -Audio control on steering wheel is a nice luxury -Big glove box Negatives -Lagging acceleration in the automatic transmission...For low speed city/suburban driving the acceleration once moving is adequate; on the highway (when passing) and from a standstill is atrocious (IMO) - I test drove the 5-speed manual, and it was definitely a little more nimble -Transmission shifts smoothly, but is just too unresponsive for my taste...again this is quite annoying when needing to pass on a highway especially if there is an uphill grade in the road -The radio/cd player display becomes almost impossible to read to due its contrast in bright sunlight -The cloth interior seat are not necessarily what I wold consider "comfortable"...however they do give you a nice high ride in the vehicle. I find that as the seats have "broken in" that now they conform to my body a little better -Driver side window is not one touch, and passenger side window is not one touch to close -I find that in a quiet cabin that the power steering can be a little noisy -Drivers floor mat is almost is starting to degrade already with only minimal wear -A/C gets cold quick, but on a 90 degree plus day, it definitely is lacking, even at maximum setting w/cabin re-circulation -Climate control knobs are a little cumbersome to operate -**STEERING** - This is by far my biggest complaint and the sole reason this vehicle gets 3 stars instead of 4....Please advise of this issue: When driving this vehicle in a straight line, you will notice that that steering is very "washy" in the sense that you are constantly making very minor corrections to the wheel, so it makes you constantly need to steer! Note that in actuality the car isn't pulling to the left or right...rather that the wheel is just constantly needing to be corrected, albeit however minor. In the beginning this really bothered me, but I have now become almost accustomed to the drive, so it irks me less. To recap, the 2011 Corolla S is an overall decent purchase and it definitely represents a good value in its class. If you can deal with the steering "issue", I would recommend the car, otherwise it might be a prudent idea to go with another vehicle. In my opinion it would be a prudent idea to seriously consider purchasing any other vehicle before buying a 2011 Toyora Corolla. Thanks for reading my review!

Not as good as it was.

I just bought a 2011 Corolla S. Intended to buy a Honda but they would not haggle at all on a new Civic so I walked. Civic has more bells and whistles on inside but the cabin noise and power were inferior to the Corolla so we ended up with a Corolla. I currently also have a 2008 Corolla S and while the 2011 looks nicer, it is not ergonomically better. In fact it is worse. The seats are horribly uncomfortable and my butt was very sore after only 30 mins. We took a 8 hr drive in my 2008 and my butt didn't become sore until about 4-5 hours. The knobs are in bad places. You should be able to do everything from normal driving stance with no turning or bending. Side mirror adj too close to steering column. The clock is down at the base of the stick shift so you have to peer down to see it so you better do it at a stop light. They removed the drawers in the front to fit the bigger radio or Nav screen that I dont have so I have nowhere to put my sunglasses. Headrests not good for short people and pushes my head forward too much even after adjustment. Maybe I am just used to the 08, but it is not a comfortable car anymore. Outside is beautiful, very quiet, runs smoothly with good power and low gas usage but inside I could do without. The Honda was the opposite. Still good car just not for long trips greater than an hour.

Worth and most reliable car

I had 2004 corrolla, which completely damged in an accident, than i bought RAV 4. My wife needs another car Initially I thought I will buy different make, I researched its competitors, CIVIC 2012, Hyundai elelantra, sentra, mazda 3, subaru impreza. I test drove back to back all of them. I felt driving on highways is almost equal to its competetors, and better than some of its competitors. We drove around 5000 miles so far, it is giving 37 mpg, in the city it drops to 36.5. Interior definitely some of its competitors are better like elantra, mazda 3 and civic. Exterior its not eye catching but it is ok. We got corrolla apprx 2000$ less compared to its competitors price. We are very happy with this car, its giving little bit lessthan 40 mpg, performace is excellent, styiling wise its ok. Considering price, fuel economy, and performance I gave 5 stars to this car.

underpowered

Totally underpowered. Handles great, but waaay too slow. Toyota killed the 2.4 ... you just gotta wonder.

Very nice ride, quite, excellent steering.

The LE with the option pkg has everything you could want in a 20k auto. The 16" rubber does make a large difference in ride and handling. I test drove at least six cars in this class and came right back to the 2011 Toyota Corolla. It's no hot rod but will get you there in style, comfort and safety. By far the lowest road noise level and best sounding stereo, CD/ MP3/ WMA in the group. Easy to use finger tip radio and bluetooth controls built into the wheel. I just dont see a power problem as it will hit 65mph in the length most free way on ramps. The stablizer bars front and rear lets the car corner flat with zero sway or dip. The mileage is just over 34mpg+ and I live in mountain country. The Mazda3 could be a great ride if it had less road noise.i

Excellent Car

I have owned several new cars in this class including other Corollas. This car has great quality, the body parts fit well and the car doesn't rattle even on bumpy roads. Even with a substantial rain test, there are no leaks, including sunroof. When you get on the freeway, the acceleration is really good, especially for a 4-cyl economy car. The steering is very steady and stable; I would say it drives like some much more expensive cars do! The seats are very comfortable, front and rear, with a surprising amount of room in the rear. The trunk will hold large items as well as several drive-in-movie patrons! The stereo sounds great and because the car is very quiet, even on the freeway, you can actually hear your music or phone conversation.

Its a corolla and its still brilliant.

I have been car shopping now for six minths and I have looked at the new Focus, Elantra, Cruze, Civic, and Mazda3. They are all great cars in their own way. I chose the Corolla because I was looking for a simple reliable car. Bottom line. I enjoy motorsport and cars in general but in reality I don't drive like a bat out of well you know, don't want flash and noise, or a lot of gadgets. I just want a good car. Comfortable, quiet and solid. I like the smooth quiet ride, and the fact I don't sit an inch above the road. The ergonomics of the dash are perfect. Everything is where it should be, simple and logical. No james Bond code keeys to turn on the radio, no laser light show telling me information I could care less about, NO HYPE. Its easy to drive, great on gas ( I am averaging just over 30mpg overall) and I find the car handsome, with a posture. NO DRAMA. I like the fact they are everywhere. 35 million sold in almost 40 years on the road. The worlds best selling car overall. That says something. I agree with James May that a car should be nothing more than it needs to be for the individual, and what they want in it. Like regular coffee, you can't go wrong. You might want somethign different, more stuff. That's cool.

this car blows away the cars in it's class. great fuel milage and great comfort. what was the real shocker was how cheap the insurance was on this new vehicle. alot of room for a car seat in the back seat. just a great buy.

Best deal on the market today

I have looked at and reviewed over 100 vehicles and the Toyota Corolla is One of the best overall values I have ever seen. Very reliable, fuel efficient, and top of the line safety features. It is because of all this I predict the resale value for the 2011 model will be the highest percentage the market has ever seen. Toyota has once again blown the competition out of the water.
