I got 319,000 miles on it
All services to norm but absolutely no engine work or replacements besides air intake and spark plugs, absolutely a beast .Have hauled wood that reached over the height of cabin and still ran smooth!highly reccomend

Great recreational truck
For most people that won’t be towing near max loads and just want a all around reliable truck it is a very good but far from perfect vehicle. Pros- -Good resale value -Reliable when maintained properly -Parts readily available at most part stores -Decent traction in severe conditions given you have the right tires for the terrain - Engine has good power and reliability if properly cared for -Rack and Pinion steering is nice and provides confidence behind the wheel - it’s a perfect light truck for recreation and daily driving - Decent fuel economy Cons -Transmission isn’t great, 4 speed automatics all seem to quit being reliable around 100,000 and it’s never going to be a heavy work horse - timing belt replacement is crucial since it’s an interference engine so you’ll want to make sure that’s done at the proper intervals, it’s kinda pricey too unless you’re able to do it yourself - Rust... we can send people to the moon but we can’t develop a vehicle that doesn’t rust to xxxx, Toyota included -The rear seats in the excess cab I really just a catch all, no adults can sit there and I would never put my children in those crumple zones -The brakes are near some of the worst I’ve ever had on any vehicle -The paint jobs aren’t the highest quality, Toyota could definitely put a little more work there -My truck had bilstien shocks and BFG ko2 tires and the ride was not good -They’re extremely overpriced compared to other half ton pick up trucks that have much better payload capacity, even Dodge trucks handle loads with more confidence than the 1st gen tundras In conclusion, despite the shortcomings tundras can be very reliable if they are properly cared for and maintained according to the maintenance schedules, they’re great for recreation like towing and daily driving they hold their resale value and look like decent vehicles if you can keep the rust from destroying it. I think they cost slightly more to maintain then a comparable Chevy, Ford or Dodge. There’s gonna be a lot of people say they tow all kinds of things with their tundras but I call xxxxxxxx to anyone who thinks this truck can tow the same as any fore mentioned trucks.

My son suggested the truck.
This was probably one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. My next3 one will probably be an F150...they are so roomy, and they still have the 5.0L engine.

Almost 19 years and still great!
Bought my 4.7 V-8 as soon as they came out in summer 1999. Now 330,000 miles later with expected repairs and replacements still a great drive. My regular mechanic told me today that he bought a 2001 land cruiser because of his experience working on my truck!
