Zippy Little Car

I bought it as a dealer demo, with 5000 miles, so I paid several thousand below invoice, which makes it a tremendous value. I wouldn't have gotten all the option packages if it weren't for the price break, but I'm glad I have them now. It's great for daily communting (30 miles up I-95 and around the beltway each way every day). Very fuel efficient (on-board trip computer and fuel burn rate). Quiet ride, comfortable leather seats. Has lots of punch in "Sport" transmission mode. The size and handling are advantageous when moving around the mouth-breathers who have no interest in getting anywhere during rush hour. I have had some electrical problems related to the airbag controller, but it was under warranty.

Love the car, Horrible on gas

I bought a 2005 jetta GLI 1.8t a few months ago. It was like love at first sight. It looked great, and as soon as I was done test driving it, I bought it on the spot. Now a couple months later, and I still love it, I just have now realized that this car is horrible on gas for a 4 cylinder. It burns gas like a V8 truck. I probably average about 14 mpg. Yea I know, unbelievable.

3 Years and Not One Maintenance Problem

I've loved this vehicle since the day I bought it. I'm shocked at the other reviews I've read. I've had no problems whatsoever with my Jetta GLI. I owned the 2000VW Jetta before this one and it was absolutely riddled with problems. VW always fixed things at no cost but it was a pain. I gave them another chance when I saw that '05 would be the last year of the body style I loved (HATE the new one!) and I have no regrets. The molding at the bottom of the car would be my only complaint. It's hard not to scratch it in parking lots or on low curbs but otherwise I have nothing but good things to say. It's fast, fun to drive and it looks awesome.

Should have bought the Honda

I was really excited to buy my first new car...and have had problems with it ever since. I have had the transmission replaced, the brakes worked on (they still squeek) and the fuel pump replaced (needs to be replaced again, the LOUD squeeling that it makes still continues) Thankfully all of this was under warantee, but it seem like a lot of repairs of major systems in a car that has less that 50,000 miles on it. I would not buy another Jetta. It is too bad, I really liked it when I bought it.

Great Driveability but poor reliability

This car is really fun to drive, it handles great and has great acceleration. I have the GLI version, and while I am happy with the way it drives, this car has a lot of annoying little problems. The car is really low and the front end scrapes the concrete on even very small inclines. The car has had a laundry list of problems... from the battery dying for no reason to the coolant sensor malfunctioning to the trip computer completely going out. I have maintained the vehicle meticulously according to the manufacturer recommendations and am not happy that every other month I am having to take it in for some kind of service when the car is barely two years old. Not only that, but the shift lever and steering wheel leather is worn down as though the car were ten years old: not good quality at all. Fun car to drive, but for those who hate the headaches of dragging a car to the dealership every month to take care of ridiculous service issues, steer clear of this one.

Great Car

Second VW I have owned and really like the way it drives and have not had any problems with it. Will probably get a GTI or upgrade to an Audi when I decide to get another car.

Test Drove

I took this vehicle for a test drive and fell in love. It was raining and it handled corners as if it was lowered and hugging the curve. I couldn't believe how well this vehicle handles.

About 5 months after getting my car I realized that it was making a really loud noise when it started so I took it to the dealer and after 6 mos they realized that it is a normal sound and no I have to keep this piece of junk car that sound like it's a 1970's car rather than an 05
