10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Ford Mustang Mach-E Charges Past Hyundai Ioniq 5

As indicated by its name, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition offers pumped-up power, quicker acceleration and a bunch of racy bits like sticky summer tires, big brakes and unique design cues. It also gets reduced efficiency and a $10,000 premium — over the Mach-E Premium, that is — for the privilege. Worth the penalty and price? Cars.com’s expert reviewers pitted Premium against Performance to help would-be buyers of the all-electric SUV determine which Mustang Mach-E model they should drop $68,000 to $78,000 on.

Elsewhere on the all-electric SUV front, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets extended range, increased towing capacity and a price to match for the new model year. Mostly avoiding tampering with a good thing, Hyundai has tweaked the battery of the Ioniq 5’s all-wheel-drive version to get an additional 10 miles of driving range, which now stands at 266 miles — the midpoint in a lineup that goes up to 303 miles. Towing capacity also increases by more than 39%, but these upgrades come at a cost — $1,500 at the starting price to be precise.
