our expert's take

Vehicle Overview
The DTS, formerly the DeVille, is a front-wheel-drive alternative in Cadillac’s luxury sedan lineup. The DTS competes with the Lincoln MKS, Volvo S80 and Chrysler 300C. The DTS seats five or six.

What’s New for 2009
The 2009 DTS has no significant changes versus the 2008 model.

Exterior
The DTS’ styling is linear and straightforward. It is 207.6 inches long (the roomier DTS-L is 215.6 inches long) and has a wheelbase of 115.6 inches, making it larger and longer than the Lincoln MKS, Volvo S80 and Chrysler 300C. The model’s styling is similar to Cadillac’s STS sedan.

  • Eggcrate grille
  • Central wreath-and-crest badging and fresh front-end sheet metal
  • New turn signals and clearer blind zone alert icons
  • New roof-mounted antenna
  • New exterior colors: Radiant Silver, Gray Flannel and Ocean Pearl Tricoat
  • 17-inch wheels standard
  • Electronic stability system with brake assist standard
  • Optional Magnetic Ride Control
  • 18-inch wheels and sunroof standard with model upgrade

Interior
The DTS can hold five or six occupants, with a choice of front bucket seats or a front bench. Total interior volume measures 132 cubic feet. That’s about 6 cubic feet of interior volume more than the MKS and about 15 cubic feet more than the S80 and 300C. Total trunk volume in the DTS is 18.8 cubic feet. Interior features include:

  • Burl wood trim available
  • Speed limit adviser with speed alert feature on front driver console
  • XM Satellite Radio NavTraffic and OnStar available
  • Standard dual-zone automatic climate control (three-zone system is optional)
  • Heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel
  • Adaptive Remote Start (with a personalization provision)
  • Power folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers and heated windshield-washer fluid

Under the Hood
The DTS is available with a choice of Northstar 4.6-liter V-8 engines, both mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

  • Base V-8 produces 275 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque
  • Quicker-revving Northstar makes 292 hp and 288 pounds-feet of torque

Safety
The DTS offers two optional safety systems in addition to the usual features.

  • Lane Departure Warning system uses a camera between the rearview mirror and windshield to warn drivers when they’ve strayed from their lane
  • The Side Blind Zone Alert uses radar to sense when objects are in the driver’s blind spot
  • Six standard airbags: side-impact, side curtain and dual front airbags
  • Standard all-disc antilock brakes
  • Standard electronic stability system with brake assist

  • Defects

Trunk power release button doesn't always work. Plus trunk break light in most 2009 models doesn't work. And the sunroof goes off track sometimes. I love look of this car, and the ride is decent.

  • Miss my DTS

Owned several Caddies, but usually traded 3-4 yrs. In 2017 I got an SUV. Now I miss my Caddy & DTS is no longer made. Thinking of buying 2009 DTS but it has 103,000 miles. Never had one over 80,000, so worth it, or troubles expected?!

  • Best Cadillac I have owned

The car is comfortable inside. The outside is great to look at. I have owned cadillacs before and this is one of the best.it has remote start with remote trunk open. The ride is as smooth as silk. That is what cadillac is about.

  • Very Reliable car, great ride very comfortable

This vehicle was great and comfortable for long rides. Lots of power with the North Star engine. Never seen bad weather always garaged. Large back seat and has headed and cooling seats with heated steering wheel.

  • This is my 3rd Cadillac and 2nd DTS.

I love the comfort and style. It has never disappointed me with it's power. We have a second set of rims to sell with it. I will truly miss this beauty.

  • This is my 7th DeVille. 68,75,78,86,88,02 & 09.

I enjoy the comfort, ride and drive of all except the 86 Fleetwood. It has a weird ride. I only kept it less than a year. My 09 currently has 74,000 miles on it. I bought it in 16 with 39,000 miles on it. I've not found a vehicle that rides better than a Cadillac. I'm uncertain if I'll like a newer one than the DTS. There last year DTS is 11. Anyone have experience with the 12 to 18 DTS replacements? Due to health I really need a car that rides well.

  • Amazing Gas Mileage For A Large Luxury Sedan

These large comfortable Cadillac DTS sedans are no longer made so if you're looking for a seriously comfortable car don't wait. My Wife has a 2011 DTS Platinum in Red and since we don't drive much these days we are reluctantly letting this one go. I hope I'm not making a mistake selling it, I'm tall and I need the room that very few cars offer these days. This beautiful sedan is in excellent condition.

  • A Great and Stylish 2009 DTS

This Cadillac from 2009 has all of the bells and whistles you would expect, and the low milage for a 10 year old car makes this a great deal. Nicely appointed interior, all of the controls are well within reach. I?m very happy with my 2009 DTS
