pretty good car
I really enjoy my Ford Escape. My only beef with the vehicle is where the shifter is located. It sticks out way too far and could be easily hit and car could be shifted into a different gear accidentally.

Doesn't age very well
Burns a lot of gas; front end has had a lot of work done, and it's still not right; not a car that you can keep on the road inexpensively once you've reached 100K.

Don't buy, unless you have a mechanic in the fam.
Purchased this car with 41 miles on it in 2002.Worked fine for the first 20,000. Then had problems with the throttle body sticking....it was replaced twice! Rear defrost wire has fallen off on left side. I had to have the IAC valve replaced last week. I am taking it back in this week because the car makes a horrible sqeaking noise when I turn the steering wheel.

Great SUV for the money
I bought this escape used and it had 80,000 miles on it. It now has 160,000 miles and is going strong. I get between 22 and 26 miles per gal on average air on or not. The only complants i have are the seats are stiff and took a while to get use to but it could bethat my 240lb body is not made for those seats. Great SUV for the comuter. I love it.

another ford
The car handles, has good pickup, and is somewhat good for storage. It is decent on gas for an suv at about 20mpg highway, 18 city. It is however, a classic ford. Little things break easy inside, like seat belt adjusters, and sunroof controls, and there have been a number of mechanical issues, which despite occuring on a large number of these vehicles, are completely uncovered by ford once warranty is up. No wonder they are on the outs. If you want reliability, buy japanese.

Value, Quality and Style!
For a 4 cylinder, this car has plenty of power and for the price, I wouldn't even consider a more expensive model. My Escape had everything I was looking for in a SUV when I bought it. Plenty of space, great gas mileage and it never broke down on me once and is now creeping up on 100,000 miles. It still runs great and has been about the lowest maintenance vehicle I have ever owned. I would have kept till death do us part except that I needed a towing vehicle for 2500 lbs of trailer and 1000 lbs of horse!
