No Major Mechanical Problems

I'm the original owner and the car has only 72,000 original miles. It's never had a major mechanical breakdown. This car is reliable and in excellent condition. Its only flaw is that the cruise control doesn't work.

Beautiful SUV - Comfortable to Drive

This is a great reliable SUV. Drives more like a car than a truck, but has the space and utility of a truck. Much more usable cargo space (because spare tire is underneath) than a Chevy Blazer (spare tire is inside cargo space), and easier to drive. Rated by Car & Driver as most reliable best handling SUV.

Built Ford Tough, but is finicky

Learned after the second transmission rebuild that you need to change fluid every 30,000 miles, or else... well I just said it. Engine leaks oil, but is remedied with Blue Devil oil stop leak. Need to add after every oil change. Front suspension is poorly designed, so regular ball joint replacement is common. However.... This truck has never let me down in the snow. It is a beast, and not even 2 feet of snow can stop it. Also as long as you keep her happy with regular fluid changes she will run forever. I have over 200,000 miles on mine and still running strong

Fine until the engine blew on the PA Turnpike

This was my second Ford Escape (both bought used with relatively low miles). I liked both for their overall performance and size (can't beat the trunk space, for example) though each had electrical problems at times. Why don't I have one now? While on a family trip to Pittsburgh, the engine blew a rod and basically blew up on the PA Turnpike after 106K miles. Just got a 2011 Honda Civic and feel like I won't be fearing for my life again any time soon.

Great suv for the money.

Never been a Ford fan but considered this car at a used car lot because it was very clean inside and out. It drove out very well and the price was great. With 4wd this suv is excellent in the snow. It also drives and handles great on the road. Checked mpgs on road and got 23.5 with 3.0l v6. Has 156,000 miles but been very reliable. Replaced alternator @ a cost of $375 for new one. Been very satisfied with this purchase.

Very reliable & long lasting!

I currently own a 2005 Ford XLT and it has over 160,000, but is still running great. It has small flaws, as I've had to have some repairs done to it, but for the mileage it has...it's doing great. If you're looking for a car to do 100 on the highway with, I would not suggest this car. This is more of a family car or teenage car with great space inside. With the mileage I currently have, I can/could go faster but I like to stick to 80/85 and below. It puts less tension/work on the car. I am very happy with the purchase and think I can drive the car for another 30k+ miles still!
