Best handling vehicle I've driven

Couldnt make up my mind if i wanted a car or small SUV. This was the best decision i made. Handles well in all road conditions . Smooth ride and accelerates nicely.

Stay Away!

I went from a Mercedes to the 2014 Jeep GC Summit. I loved the styling and features for what I thought was a bargain price (compared to Mercedes). But the horrible reliability makes the seamingly great sticker price a joke. Who has time to spend in the dealer for service? I've had the car 5 months and I have about 8,000 miles on it. So far, it has had one major safety recall, plus the forward facing camera that controls the high/low beams failed. It's an $800 part, which is covered by warranty, but hardly something that should fail in 5 months. I still don't have the new camera as it takes forever to get replacement parts. The rear hatch is so flimsy that the whole thing needs to be either replaced or realigned. It's in the dealer right now for the hatch, which will cost me over $1,000 as they claim it was in an accident (it wasn't). This is the first -- and LAST -- Chrysler product for me. Buyer beware. I can't wait to get rid of this monster, and I guarantee I will give it back to them well before the lease is over. Also, Chrysler dealers have no idea how to please customers. Mercedes is expensive but you are treated like royalty. Busy professionals just don't have time to be in the dealer every month. Live and learn.

Perhaps best in class but not perfect

For the same money I could have had a 4Runner or an Explorer and that's what I chose from. Instead I got the Limited v6 gas with navigation and HIDs. The engine and transmission are very good, a generation ahead of Toyota's sad old v6 and years ahead of Ford's v6. The default is economy mode which most people will be happy with most of the time. Every time you start the vehicle the eco mode switch lights up at the very bottom of the console, pressing it switches eco mode off an will make the vehicle as sporty as most people want. In drive mode pulling the shift back swaps between normal and sports mode, in sports mode it holds on to the gears for a lot longer and really lets the engine rev, way more sporting than most people want but it suits me. There is also the option of paddle shift, if you use the paddle shifters on the wheel it puts the transmission in manual mode, very useful if you are approaching a steep hill or an overtaking opportunity; even the sportiest gearbox can't anticipate what you can see. The Ford and Toyota transmissions are very lazy and slow and sluggardly by comparison, the only way to get the Toyota to show some go is to be very hard on the throttle. The ford is OK but always feels underpowered. Handling on the JGC is better than the standard 4Runner but only about as good as the 4Runner Trail with KDSS which in the end is probably the best suspension system on this class of vehicle, even better than the air suspension I have. The Ford is a real disappointment, very car like ride but also vague, whereas the 4Runner and JGC feel like they are in control the Ford feels like it is bigger than it is because of the vague steering. The fuel economy of the JGC is way better than either the Explorer or 4Runner, on a 1700 mile trip up I5 and down US101 between San Francisco and Olympia WA I averaged 24.5mpg. With the 4Runner I could get 18 by driving like my mother and near 20 in the Explorer. The interior of the Explorer and Grand Cherokee are very similar in feel, but the Jeep has better seat travel and I have the ventilated seats, which are great when it is warm. If the Ford or Toyota have this option I have not met it. The 4Runner is better than the old ones but cramped compared to the Jeep and Explorer.Rear seats on the Jeep are heated, which I had only previously met on the Infiniti GX56, very nice for our daughter. The electronics are not perfect but they are pretty good. The software is also easy to update and they do update regularly. The phone has not lost lock and playing Bluetooth is easy. The Ford system behaves like Windows 98, always losing connections and never working well, the bluetooth hands free on the Explorer is also unusable at high speed (65) because the microphone pics up wind noise. The electronics on the 4Runner are adequate but not good. Many owners replace the Toyota head unit. The real disappointment in the Grand Cherokee electronics is the GPS. It will get you where you are going , and it makes good routing suggestions, but even when the autozoom is set to 'far' it could only be considered far if you are walking. It is a major step down from the Garmin based navigation in the 2013 Chryslers. Traffic information is OK, no better. Having to hand zoom is a pain. Manipulating the map by hand is frustrating, the slew is unreliable and the display reacts slowly. But it is adequate. If I can replace it then I will. Toyota is not in this race any more, the Highlander is no use off road and the 4Runner is too uneconomical and out of date on road. The Explorer is also a road car, it isn't suitable for off road. I am not a rock crawler, but with the air suspension I don't have to worry about going off road with the Grand Cherokee. Now the diesel is out so I am looking to trade. None of the others have an alternate that has the torque and economy of the Grand Cherokee diesel.

Buyer beware!!

This is my 3rd JGC I've owned, and by far the worst!! I bought the new 2014 Limited, and have had it back to the dealer 5 times. Drive shaft bearings went out (dealer replaced entire shaft), keep getting error on NAV system, clock freezes up, cannot use the Uconnect system at all, will not load apps, and my biggest issue since I drove it home is the vibration. It vibrates at 75 (steering wheel and seats shake), and so far they have not fixed it. At this very moment, the dealer still has the vehicle. They tried to tell me it's the system that shuts down the other 4 cylinders that causes the vibration, so if that's the case, who would want to pay 40K for a SUV that vibrates?? There's clearing several engineering glitches with this model. Sad part is, the dealer only started working with me once I opened a case with Chrysler. If you're looking at the new Grand Cherokee as a possible SUV, keep looking!! I'm so unhappy with this thing it makes me sick!

Not happy!

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I just have it 6 months and have so many problems with it! The shifting was a huge problem and still is they already replaced a valve body , dashboard lit up like a Christmas display ( a few times) they updated the software , couldn't get gas it would click off like it was full (they replaced a vent hose), there is a rattle in the engine and they keep telling me its normal and its not! I was unable to change the radio station from the radio itself and the steering wheel (they updated the software again. )The blower for the heat and air was not working, when it did there was a nasty smell (they blew out the blower )vibrates here and there when I'm at a light, feels like its going to stall sometimes(RPM's drop)headlights were going off at night(again another update on the software). The list could go on! Oh and as far as getting your truck serviced at other Jeep dealers other then the one you bought it from has been false, I went to Merrick-dodge and the guy was so nasty! He basically told me if My dealer couldn't fix it what would make you think I could fix it? He was nasty!!!! (because they did not get the sale) Well I took my truck out if there! So when they tell you cold go anywhere they LIE! Today I went to town & country and they said my best bet would be to go back to my dealer. Again in a nice way they turned me away.(he did say oh you can come back but I can't give you a Loaner car)but you could tell they don't want to service the truck! I bought this jeep to have something reliable , that is so not the case!!! Would I buy Jeep again? NO!!!! I have contacted Chrysler too! This is very frustrating!!!!! Who has time to be at the dealers almost every week? I get in the truck and say what is going to be today's problem?

Darn it!!

I was deciding between the Jeep GC Limited, Ford Explorer or Accura RDX and settled on the jeep after reading all the expert reviews. While i love the look and feel of the car and the driving experience, I too have had numerous trips to the shop like others have mentioned. Within the first 3,000 miles the water pump needed to be replaced! Dealer said "parts sometimes break". I just got the car back after taking it in for the Uconnect system as I keep getting a "phone service" alert. So far, not fixed. Now the radiator is leaking and the service supervisor said that he has seen a number of these on the 2014 GC... I really want to like this vehicle but am starting to have my doubts. I had a Dodge Ram truck for 3 years and never had it in the shop so I thought Chrysler had come a long way on the quality front. Now I am not so sure...

Too many problems with my first ever Jeep!

Bought our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have less than 6300 miles on it. To my displeasure and surprise the vehicle has been in the shop too many times. 1) Vehicle failed to turn on after driving to work. It had to be towed and was diagnosed having a pinched wire causing a short under the motor mount. 2) The instrumentation panel went out and the ABS module had to be replaced 3) Hatch door needed to be aligned 4) broken fender bracket needed replacement 5) Squeaky water pump needed to be replacement 6) Numerous S/W update every time the vehicle was taken in for a problem 7) Remote start stopped working. Hood switch needed to be replaced As for the design, the only thing that I think needs improvement is there is hardly any storage space inside as our DVD player takes most of the room in the center console. There is not a place to even store a box of tissue or anything.

Absoutly Impressed With Our First Jeep!

Bought the Summit to replace our mini-van that we have had for years. It would not be fair to compare a GC to a mini-van, but I must say the ride is such an improvement it must be mentioned. I really am impressed with the quality of the interior, from the stitched leather to the voice recognition to the very quiet ride and comfort---well, I could go on and on. I learned of this car on PBS where the program compared this price range SUV from four or five of the most popular on the road. Hands down this was Car Talks pick of the batch. They compared comfort, power, features etc....went to the local dealer for a test drive, and drove home with what has become my favorite ride. The tow rating is about 6,500 lbs. meaning you could easily tow a 25ft. travel trailer with no problem. My wife and I live in AZ. where the Summer is really warm, having cooled seats will be a feature we use! I know all new cars can have problems, that is nothing new....We have not experienced one problem and look forward to years of enjoyment in our Grand Cherokee! Give one a test drive and you will understand why I am so positive about this vehicle, and this is our first Jeep!
