What Is the 2023 Kia Sorento?

The Kia Sorento is a three-row mid-size SUV with seating for up to seven, though space in the third row is cozy at best. Powering the base Sorento is a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission; optional is a 281-hp, turbocharged version of the four-cylinder that’s paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Want to stretch your fuel mileage further? The Sorento can be had as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, with the latter providing 32 miles of electric-only range. The plug-in hybrid comes only with all-wheel drive, but other Sorentos can have front- or all-wheel drive. Rivals include the Honda Passport, Subaru Ascent and Toyota Highlander.

According to Cars.com’s cargo measurements, the Sorento has 23.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 10.5 cubic feet behind the third. See how it scored in our Car Seat Check here.

What’s New on the 2023 Kia Sorento?

The Sorento enters the 2023 model year with no major updates. Blind spot warning, safe exit assist and rear cross-traffic alert are now standard, with additional changes limited to feature shuffling among trims and powertrains.

What Features in the 2023 Kia Sorento Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity
  • Six USB ports
  • Second- and third-row bench seats
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning system
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Power liftgate
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Leather seats
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated second-row captain’s chairs
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system
  • Bose premium stereo
  • Wireless device charging
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability

Should I Buy the 2023 Kia Sorento?

The Sorento has a long list of standard safety and tech features, and while its third row is best left to kids, the added flexibility is handy. The Sorento’s ride is firmer than a number of other mid-size SUVs’, but not punishingly so. There are many powertrain choices, and the fuel-sipping hybrid and plug-in hybrid models have added eco-themed credentials. The Sorento plug-in hybrid is pricey, however, and only comes in the range-topping SX-Prestige trim.

  • Perfect Size

My Sorrento has nice styling...is comfortable..get good gas mileage which in this Era is important...love how it is equipped with navigation, heated seats, fold down third seats. This size is perfect for my wife and I and extra room for picking up guests at the airport or bringing groceries home. I would have liked a little more power for getting up to speed in traffic and getting on the highway. All in all I'm very happy with this SUV

  • Alot for the money.

I bought mine new in June. I now have 28000 miles in March. The steering assist is a game changer on 10-12 hour drives. The car is effortlessly fast , drives easy, and I like the maps and compass.

  • Kia Sorento HEV, great veh.

The Kia, Sorento HEV I bought was Mfg. Dec 2023. I Bought in early Feb 2024. I like the design, I noticed when I drive posted speed limit 65 mph., with some hills Los Angles to Riverside I am getting 41 mpg. Of course if I drive 70 mph. All I save is 5 minute's. So I prefer to pay the greedy oil companies less. The vehicle is nice, rides okay, interior is well designed, and quiet. Features are just right, however could have came with front grill camera, and seat cooler. It is a nice vehicle.

  • Great car

Great car and the more I drive it, the more I love it. You get a ton of value but at 40k, the SX line needs a better sounds system.

  • I fell in love again!

I absolutely love this SUV. The only thing is the pick up (acceleration)isn't as good as I'm used to. The exterior is fabulous & the interior is very comfortable & has all the bells & whistles I was looking for.

  • Cruising along

Mate Tamas at Spitzer KIA was my sales associate very easy to work with and very low pressure. He was kind, honest, respectful, answered all my questions, and was supportive through the whole process. He was also very patient when I told him I wanted to think about it overnight. The most positive car buying experience I have ever had. I will definitely be recommending Mate to my friends and family. Jeremy in finance was great also.

  • Stylish & comfortable for a great price

Lots of luxurious features for a great price. The SX Prestige has everything I wanted that I would've had to (and almost did) pay to upgrade in a Chevy Equinox without all the hard plastic interior. The Bose sound system is phenomenal, though I prefer to listen to Spotify via Bluetooth instead of Apple CarPlay because to me, it sounds better. Love the blind spot cameras that appear when I use my turn signal -- very useful -- as well as the smart cruise control! The leather seats have beautiful stitching and are super comfortable. I don't need the third row, but its great to have the extra room. The second row is adjustable, giving more leg room to my backseat passengers. It has 5 drive modes and I'm still tinkering on which one I like the best (Eco is great for daily commuting, but Sport is nice for long stretches of highway). The smudges aren't as bothersome to me as another reviewer said they are; also, you CAN lock the car from inside when its off and/or in park -- I do it all the time as a female driver whenever I get in the car for safety. Overall, I'm very happy so far with my Sorento and I highly recommend the 2023 SX Prestige.

  • Can't insure, can't lock from inside

Two really important things to know: 1) Geiko, Progressive, Allstate are not covering Kias or Hyundais for new policy holders-call your insurance company before purchasing before making a really expensive mistake. 2) You cannot lock the car from the inside when you're in Park. You can program the car to lock when you put it into Drive. Or you can lock from the fob or the app once you're outside of the car. I find it appalling and a very high safety risk especially for a single female that I cannot lock my door from the inside when I'm sitting parked in a parking lot. Super disappointed that the dealership did not inform me like this. Other observations: -very shiny inside and out, hope you don't mind fingerprint smudges everywhere -for some reason I can't get the seat right. When I feel far enough away from the wheel, I have to stretch my foot to accelerate. I've driven a lot of cars and never had such a problem position my seat, so I don't think it's me issue. -Excellent reliability (this is my third Kia) -Nice handling -Excellent Kia warranty, which for only about 3,600 more can be up to a 10-yr bumper to bumper. -Tons of features that you'd have to pay extra for in a different car
