Expert 2013 Lincoln MKX review

our expert's take
Our expert's take

our expert's take

Vehicle Overview

Revised for the 2011 model year, Lincoln’s MKX luxury crossover received updated exterior styling, new technology features and a more powerful V-6 engine. The five-seat MKX competes against the Cadillac SRX and Lexus RX 350.
New for 2013
The MKX can have newly available 22-inch polished aluminum wheels while the Sync entertainment and communication system adds Operator Assist and Wi-Fi capability.
Exterior
Up front, the MKX has a version of what Lincoln calls its “split-wing grille.” The grille doesn’t overwhelm the front of the crossover like the design does on Lincoln’s MKT full-size crossover. Exterior features include:

  • Split taillights use inward-facing LEDs to soften the typical pinpoint illumination provided by these lights
  • Standard 18-inch wheels
  • Available 19-, 20- or 22-inch wheels
  • Available forward sunroof and a fixed rear moonroof

Interior
The MKX’s dashboard features a flowing design that blends smoothly into the center console and utilizes upscale touches such as stitching along some seams.

Ford’s entertainment and communication system, dubbed MyLincoln Touch in Lincoln models, is standard in the MKX. The system aims to make all of your communication and entertainment sources easy to control while driving. To do this, MyLincoln Touch features an 8-inch touch-screen in the middle of the dash, five-way steering-wheel controls, USB ports, an SD card slot and an instrument panel with a traditional analog speedometer flanked by two customizable LCD screens.

The system can be operated by voice commands and touch-sensitive controls. The touch controls for audio volume and ventilation fan speed each feature a horizontal plate, and you slide your finger left or right to lower or raise the volume/fan speed. Interior features include:

  • Real wood and aluminum trim is offered
  • Standard leather upholstery
  • Standard heated and ventilated front seats
  • Standard remote keyless entry and start
  • Available power tilt/telescoping steering wheel
  • Available heated steering wheel

Under the Hood
Mechanical features include:

  • 305-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6
  • Six-speed automatic transmission
  • Uses regular gas
  • Front- or all-wheel drive

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes
  • Electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control
  • Side-impact airbags for the front seats
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Available blind spot warning system

  • I like this SUV. Also likedy 1997 Towncar

I bought my Lincoln MKX 2013 as a certified pre-owned with 14000 miles.Had never any problem, except for the airconditioner went out. It has 64,000 miles to it. Knock on wood that it stays that way. Thank you.

  • Torque steering

My 2013 MKX requires more effort in steering and navigation. It is not easy to steer, always requires greater effort. Also the headrests in rear interfere with vision inspite the back up camera.

  • Great SUV.

I had never owned a Lincoln. My wife drove an MKZ sedan which impressed me with reliability and quality. I test drove an MKX and fell in love with it. I've owned it for over two years. It is 9 years old and still drives like brand new. No rattles, shakes, or mechanical problems. It still looks brand new too. The way used cars have gone up. I could trade it for what I paid for it 2 years ago.

  • Close to, if not a Lemon.

I bought the vehicle used from a large national retailer. With 74K miles - (< 800 miles since I owned it), the A/C started blowing hot air out of the driver' side and cool air out the front passenger's side. 3 trips to a local Lincoln dealer of the same national retailer that I purchased the car from and $1500 later, the A/C is working. Although the brakes are apparently fine when inspected, they periodically make concerning noise when braking. Supposedly, there is nothing that can be done about it. I wish the front seats would slide back further to better accommodate longer legged drivers / passengers in the front seats. The plastic "chrome" Lincoln marque in the middle of the steering wheel has faded through the chrome to a yellowed plastic color. In order to replace it, you need to spend $400 for a new steering wheel - really not a smart design for the owner.

  • BEST PURCHASE

I bought my used certified 2013 MKX 3 years ago and its been a wonderful car. It definitely drives like a luxury vehicle and is spacious inside in comparison to other models I drove. Super easy to maneuver; one drawback it's acceleration. There is a bit of a lag when you punch it.
