Taller minivan that drives like Camry

My wife drives a 15 year old Camry. We didn't do much from day one except annual oil change. Went through a few sets of tires, shocks were replaced. Got hit three times over the years. Today it still drives like day one! No squeak no nothing. The paint job isn't great. The headlight plastics are foggy, amongst other minor issues. But the car goes like a champ! So this time around I am going for a Toyota for sure. Was looking for a 4runner. Like the tall position and the truck feel. But the creature comfort is not great. And the Highlander has a great year end deal I can't pass up. So after some googling, got myself an xle. This thing rides smoooooth! Yes, the 8 speed tranny has minor glitches from time to time, but still, it's smooth and quiet that makes me dose off. I'm not too crazy about the styling. It looks like any other cross over or minivan these days. But everything works like a Toyota should. The controls are easy to get used to. The safety features work wonderfully. Lane tracing, smart cruise control, and yes, the back up warning and lane change warning in the side mirrors, really appreciate those! For car this big, it's a hassle to look back over the shoulder and it can be dangerous to everyone as well. Just can't say enough good things for this. With such a quiet cabin, classical music and old jazz make sense and pleasing to the ears again. And the top glass window in the rear opens by itself! Honestly, this is the reason I agreed to test drive it after the 4runner. Always wanted that feature, very useful. The 4runner has the power rear window, which is better IMHO. But if it opens, good enough for me. The cons so far: 360 degree camera for parking would be great. Heard it's available for 2020. Nice! The Toyota navigation is completely useless. Simple don't hold a candle against Google map! What a waste of screen space! Should connect to my phone and directly showing Google map instead. Now I have to get an ugly suction cup and stick my phone up there in my face if I need GPS! I hope Toyota will swallow their pride and do this in the near future. That will be a great favor for everyone. Time will tell on the long term reliability. But based on my Camry and what others have said about the Highlanders, I have good reason to be optimistic. Really appreciate Toyota holding up firm for quality and reliability all these years! This car is almost invisible in the parking lot. So if you like to standout, this probably is not it.

Love my new Toyota Highlander

This vehicle is equipped with loads of safety features to make driving much safer. It is especially well suited for travel in the Northwoods of Wisconsin where we live. Its pedestrian warning feature should come in quite handy for the pedestrians we have up here, namely all the deer we have crossing the roads at night. The auto headlight dimming feature is great. We leave it enabled, because it is very dark driving out in the country, but at the same time there is enough oncoming vehicles to necessitate dimming the lights often. All in all, a very comfortable and enjoyable ride.

Excellent Value - Pleased with purchase

Limited Platinum Trim: One of the few times I have bought a car and been very satisfied with the purchase. The ride is very comfortable, and it has plenty of features that enhance the experience. Steering is a little "loose" and the suspension is soft (not as bad as my 2017 Avalon), but it is very manageable. While many have complained about the navigation issues, I must have gotten one with updated software since the navigation system works fine (thankfully). There's plenty of room from the second row of seating forward. The third row is fine for small children and works for adults in a pinch for short periods of travel. There is a big reach for some of the controls on the console, but I can live with that. I do wish it had HUD and that the engine auto on/off could be disabled, but I imagine that is a useful feature for some.

Lousy Entune System in 2019 Highlanders

Traded my 2018 for this 2019 Highlander, everything is about the same except for the Entune system. It will NOT respond correctly to commands in the XM radio mode. Have had it to the dealer 3 times. They have contacted Toyota engineers in CA and were told there is no fix for the problem, live with it. DON'T BUY THIS VECHILE IF YOU LIKE XM RADIO.
