Superior work truck

If you buy a truck to look trendy or want to play urban cowboy, you would not understand what I'm saying. Here in the San Joaquin Valley of California everything is about agriculture. People here are not loyal to a truck because it's a Chevy, Dodge, or Ford. They're loyal beause the truck they have fulfills their needs--relaibility, decent mpg, and can haul a lot of fertilizer, dirt, tractor fuel, farm workers, tools, or whatever. I have a basic work truck with the 4.7L V-8 and it does exactly what the title implies--it works. Controls are within easy reach, the seats are very comfortable, and the storage is first rate. I get more value for the dollar versus the other makes. This is my first Toyota truck (I've had Chevys and Ford the past 35 years) and so far the initial impression is favorable--although this is one ugly truck....but tough as nails.

Truck that thinks for you.

Love it. Saved my life on a snowy evening when deer ran out in front of me. Yes, I know pump the brakes and turn in direction of skid... not so easy in the situation!! I did what most do and slammed on brakes without even thinking. To my surprise, the vehicle stopped without slip or fishtailing or losing control at anytime. I never even left my lane. and deer is still alive. NO JOKE. Go test drive one and try to lose control. you can't. Stabiltiy & Traction control systems with brake assist/abs are amazing!

I'm staying with the Ford F-150

Toyota's Frame??? Old style frame!! Horsepower with the Toyota engine, but can it really output to the wheels? The inside looks like a Camery........ Ford & Chevy builds a much better truck. I test drove and reviewed the Tundra.... (not a truck)!!!! I also find the Ford dealer to give better service and sales information than the Toyota dealer.

Now that's a truck

I picked up the Tundra Double Cab Limited 5.7 about 2 weeks ago and haven?t stopped smiling yet. This thing accelerates more like a sports car then a truck and you better buckle up if you?re going to hit the brakes hard. The disks are huge and definitely bring this beast to a stop quickly. The double cab is also very deceiving. There is more then ample room for ground adults to sit in the back comfortably. This will be my 3rd Toyota truck and fifth truck over all. I had two Tacoma?s prior, each for 7 plus years and did nothing but chain oil/filter, tires and break pads. Not a single trip to the dealer in over 15 years..well other then to get a new vehicle. Only complain came from a friend who is pro Ford. He said I should have bought an American truck but from what I understand these are manufactured in San Antonio Texas. You don?t get much more American then that.

Best truck I ever owned

Great truck... lots of speed...This truck has lots of leg room. It also has numerous areas for storage of various size items, like sunglasses, cell phones, etc. The safety equipment in the truck is state of the art. The front window and hood area slopes downward allowing driver and front seat passenger to see full view of the road. The truck rides as smoothly as a new cadillac. The handling is excellent, smooth into the turns. The stereo system is of high tech quality. All around, this truck is recommended for the single person or as a family ride, spacious enough to hold six passengers comfortably.

Loads of power, need a fat wallet

The 5.7 has all the power you could ever want. 6-speed tranny is great, although you have to get use to its slightly strange "braking mode downshifts". Confortable seats with good driving position and roomy back seats. Controls for AC and radio are a little bit beyond easy reach, but I guess that's a price you pay for a big truck. The skid pad numbers could be a little better (and probably are for a 2wd model). Lack of an extended cab model make in impractical for a lone traveler with a lot of stuff. I think they could have done more in the gas mileage department. Only 14 and 20 (unloaded) just doesn't cut it to well these days. Variable displacement will be a must for future models. Chevy and Ford truck folks will probably find the suspension a little soft for their tastes. Toyota went after Toyota and Nissian people that have had to buy Fords and Chevys to get the muscle in the past. They will recapture those folks pretty quick, but winning over the good ole' boys chevy or ford heart will take time and a few more improvements.

Its all about the 5.7

The new Tundra is awsome, the limited 5.7 is unreal, it has it all, 20 inch rims, big brakes, and the big engine. Inside it has a nav. system and plush leather interior. The 5.7 is FAST,(i work at a toyota dealership) and easly crushes the 06 f150 5.4 we have on our lot. if i had the money, it would already be in my garage!!!!

Toyota is gaining momentum

Well it appears that Toyota is trying to cut into the truck segment with fierce aggression by blending comfort style power and versatility together. What is dissapointing is the quality of the car. Its very unexpected of a Toyota. Perhaps they should focus on quality control for their trucks since the rest of their lineup is virtually flawless. Some people complained about engine check signals that come on and other minor inconvieniences that may aggrivate buyers. Our test truck seemed fine and had a solid built feeling to it. ALthough bigger and harder to manuver, it is still a good truck. Toyota made a good effort to compete with the American trucks and the Tundra has shown its competency during our tests. Perhaps the American car manufacturers should take into consideration the meticulousy of Japanese quality control since American sedans are realtively poor in construstion and refinement. Many buyers should wait a year or two when the Toyota fixes all the problems and improves the quality of the Tundra. It is certainly worth the wait to own a remarkable truck with great potential
