Happy in the northwest

I had a focus and traded it in for an escape when the gas prices decided to take a jump.I needed an economical vehicle as Idrive 32,000+ miles a year. Ishopped around and a friend told me I should check with toyota. I knew about the Corolla and was surprised to see the Yaris. I purchased mine in July. I am getting on a consistant bases driving Highway and city 46 miles to the gallon. My Yaris is a manual and I do use the a/c. My husband is 6' 3" and he was pleased that he has to slide the seat forward when he adjusts it. As a family of three we have plenty of room inside and don't feel squished. Everyone asks isn't it hard to get use to the instrument panel but it has never been a problem for anyone who has driven my car. Matter of fact I know a few people trying to locate one for themselves. Yes it's no "sports car" but if you drive normal and don't want to burn your tires off then it is a perfect choice.

Cheap, Efficient, Cool.

The Yaris is the first new car I've ever purchased, and the experience thus far has been wonderful. I commute six days out of the week and needed nothing more than a point-A-to-point-B-mobile, and the Yaris is perfect and then some. The centralized instrument panel is a bonus to taller people (I'm 6'4") because in most vehicles, I have to look around or under the steering wheel to see how fast I'm going. But with the gauge cluster big and bright right above the stereo, I don't even need to take my eyes off the road to see what's going on! It's roomy on the inside (I own the S-series sedan) and stylish on the outside. The performance won't knock your socks off but when you pay $14k for a new compact car, that's probably not your first concern. Still, it'll get you merged onto the freeway with no problems. Handling is excellent and braking is quick due to low weight. I wouldn't trade this car for anything else on the road today (within reason, of course). Highly recommended for the budget-minded consumer.

Just What I Wanted

I bought the liftback to use as a commuter in addition to my truck. People say that it looks European or spacecraft like as well as being cute, I have also heard people make fun of it. Never have I owned a car that generated so much interest either way, and I have had some very nice cars. I am a big guy and it is comfortable, easy to get in and out of, ergonomic, peppy and stingy on the gas. The hood is almost comical, but everything is right there so it is easy to do general maintenance like oil and plug changes. If you like driving, get the stick, you will have a lot of fun with it. I barely drive my truck now; it is too much fun to drive the Yaris. By the way, you know those parking spaces that cars on each side encroach on so they become unusable, well I fit them with ease as well as being able to fit in many other spots. All this for a song, though I did have to buy the arm rest separate from the dealer for $80, it was easy to install and is worth it.

Great Economy car

I had to write a review to rebut some of the other reviews. This is a great small car. As far as looks go either you like it or you don't. Simple. Performance. Adequote. If you want a sports car, go buy one. Handling? Much better than other economy cars I have driven. I have had my Yaris over 4 months. No problems. Great gas mileage. Just fits me fine.

Excellent and Fun Little Car

I bought my car, a 3 door liftback, in May. At the time it had 8 miles on it. I now have over 6300 miles on it. Each day I drive it, I like it more. I've got the automatic transmission and am getting an average of 35.5 mpg. combined city/highway. I may get a little better mileage now that I've added cruise control about a week ago. (Cruise was not available as an option for the liftback when I bought mine.) I'm frequently asked about it in parking lots or at the gas pump. I really am enjoying it. It's a great little car for an entry level vehicle.

Great car for the money

My commute to work is about 90 miles each way. I thought of buying a used Corolla or Civic because of gas mileage, but decided on the Yaris because I could get a new car for the same price. I have not been disappointed by my choice. The car looks and handles well. Although the seats are a little spongy, in general I am very comfortable on my commute. The gas mileage is awesome--when I keep my speed down to 70-75 (something that is not always easy on the Interstate) my gas mileage averages 43 mpg (38 locally, or when I encounter traffic). A lot of folks said bad things about the center-mounted instrument panel. I didn't like it at first either, but now I like it--it's easy to look down at it while driving. There was also a reviewer who dinged the Yaris for getting pushed by high winds. After driving the car in the remnants of the last hurricane, I would have to agree--but it is more an annoyance than a safety factor. In general, the car handles very well for a small car. I have the 5-speed manual transmission and it was a lot of fun to drive on mountain roads during my vacation. The Yaris is not a car for someone who wants an elegant car. If you want that, spend a little more and get a Camry, Accord or similar car. But if you want a car that is fun to drive, reliable, and practically pays for itself in gas savings for high mileage drivers, the Yaris is a good choice.

You get your money worth.

This car is awesome on gas. Average price it cost me to fill up on gas is $33.00 and average MPG is 37. That?s with 85% highway driving at average speeds at 80mph and A/C on. PS: If you have a heavy foot like I do, you will love what you paid for the car driving below 80MPH, if it?s more than 80MPH, you get what you paid for.

Little Squished Bug

This goofy little car looks like a squished bug. Bad styling in and out. Weak engine. Gas Mileage is not up to what's on the sticker. For an extra grand you can buy a much better equipped vehicle, like a Cobalt. Plus I hear the safety isn't that great, and they are not built well.

Toyota's lame duck

Not sure what happened in the Toyota styling department but this little car has a seriously weird looking front end. During my test drive the little yaris showed poor performance in acceleration and handling. The center console would be too difficult to get used to. Also some of the panels had gaps and didn't fit up correctly. If your in the market for a small reliable car with decent pep, and good looks, I'd check out the Chevy Aveo or Saturn Ion.
