Expert 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia review

our expert's take

What Is the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia?

The Giulia is Alfa Romeo’s entrant in the compact luxury sports sedan class, which is crowded with the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. Offered in rear- or all-wheel-drive form, the Giulia's base engine is a 280-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that works with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. The high-performance Quadrifoglio trim level is rear-drive-only, and it packs a 505-hp, twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6.

What’s New on the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia?

Quadrifoglio models get new anodized brake calipers bearing the Alfa Romeo script in red as well as a 40/20/40-split, folding backseat. A new Nero Edizione Package with dark exterior accents is available, and Ti Sport Carbon and an Exterior Carbon Fiber Package for the Quadrifoglio add carbon-fiber accents, among other changes. Heated rear seats and a premium alarm system are newly optional.

What Features in the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Are Most Important?

While not as luxury-focused as its German rivals, the Giulia does offer standard leather seats and bi-xenon headlamps. All versions come with Alfa Romeo's DNA drive-mode selector, but performance-oriented buyers will gravitate to the Quadrifoglio, which is a blast to drive. The available Driver Assistance Dynamic Plus Package bundles important active safety features like lane departure warning, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control. All Giulias come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

Should I Buy the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia?

The Giulia is an incredibly rewarding car to drive, with great handling and powerful engines. So-so interior quality and an unremarkable multimedia system detract from the experience, but if you want a great-driving car, the Giulia is worth a long look.

  • Head turner

Our soon to be 17 year old was floored when he saw his Alfa Romeo. It’s gorgeous inside & out. Smooth ride, great handling, luxury interior, sleek design, eye catching color. Great value for this 2019 Guilia!!

  • Beautiful car fun to drive

I drove this car for two year and really loved it. It’s fun to drive and the aesthetics are unmatched. I had the “base” but it’s really totally loaded and looks and feels much more expensive than it is. The maintenance was pretty easy given it’s a new car. It had no issues.

  • lemon. Main engine harness issue

Car broke down on a freeway after 3 repairs and months, still dealer can't come up with any solution. Very dangerous and lemon. No reliability, and now the dealer repossessed because I refused to keep paying, and they will sell it at an auction (Chrysler capital through Glendale alfa Romeo) and some poor idiot is going to buy it and get screwed or die from accident.

  • Trying to love it but Not very reliable

Have the car around 2 months and love the look inside and out. The drive is pretty good. However, the car has not started 4 different times and stallled at a light & was hard to start. Its been to the dealer 2 times and 1 for a recall. All in 2 months. I have a RAM 1500 for 9 years that has less problems. As a former BMW, Mercedes and Audi owner and a current AMG GTC and RAM owner I have had alot of cars and currently have 3 with this as my daily driver. This is the first time I am worried about the car starting and being stranded. I really am trying to like the car, however, its off to a bad start.

  • Second Alfa in a month.

Almost bought a Mercedes Benz CLA 35. Drove the Alfa Giulia it is one of the best handling fun to drive cars in its class. Great performance and style. Most people don't even know what the Alfa Romeo is. Gets a lot of looks. (Pull my over RED) Too early to tell on reliability only 500 miles on the second one. I can say the Alfa Giulia is safe in a accident. I was hit in the rear quarter panel at 60 MPH spun around and hit another vehicle the Alfa was totaled walked away without a scratch . Bought a second one !

  • Just so much fun to drive

The Alfa Giulia is what sport sedans should be, fun to drive. You pay extra over a 'family car' for the sheer joy it brings to your life, alluring to look at and exciting to get behind the wheel of. Alfa delivers in a way the gadget laden but characterless germans just do not. Everything about it is passion, from the noise, the colors, the styling or the way it communicates to you on every drive.

  • Almost a year and 10,000 mile review

So far, the car has been great. No reliability issues. This is the best handling car I’ve owned...by far. Note, this is a replacement for my aging 3 series. I test drove the BMW 330 and Jaguar E type before deciding and think I made the right choice. Fantastic interior, especially the Ti Sport seats which hug nicely. The 2 liter engine is al the power I need.

Amazing! Beautiful! Fun! Easy to drive. I have almost 31k miles on it and have only done tire rotation and oil changes. I use it to commute 60 miles a day and still no problems. Maybe I’m lucky or maybe it’s just a good car!
