Vehicle Overview
For 2006, a new front-wheel-drive sedan called the DTS replaced the long-lived DeVille in Cadillac’s lineup. The DTS had been the top-level model in the DeVille series. For about two decades, the DeVille has accounted for nearly half the sales in its segment. Competitors include the Audi A6 and Infiniti M35. For 2008, Cadillac introduced two new safety options for the DTS: Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone Alert systems.

Six airbags are installed, and one of two Northstar V-8s powers the DTS.

Exterior
Styling of the DTS is “more architectural and linear,” said Gary Cowger, former president of General Motors North America, during its initial appearance. The new model’s styling evokes Cadillac’s STS sedan.

Led by an eggcrate grille with central wreath-and-crest badging and fresh front-end sheet metal, the DTS features vertical xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights and LED taillamps.

New color options for 2008 include Crystal Red, Black Cherry, Double Espresso and Blue Diamond. Cadillac says there will be a limited edition Carbon Flash Metallic DTS, but it will not go on sale until the spring of 2008 and no details are available.

A four-channel StabiliTrak electronic stability system with brake assist is standard, and Magnetic Ride Control is optional. Seventeen-inch chrome wheels are standard, and 18-inch wheels are optional. Riding a 115.6-inch wheelbase, the DTS sedan is 207.6 inches long overall and 74.8 inches wide.

The Platinum DTS edition, available in the fall of 2007, boasts 18-inch wheels, a 292-horsepower Northstar 4.6-liter V-8 engine and a standard sunroof and DVD navigational system.

Interior
The DTS can hold either five or six occupants, with a choice of front bucket seats or a front bench. Genuine burl wood trim is available.

Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, and a tri-zone system is optional. Available features include heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, Adaptive Remote Start (with a personalization provision), power folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers and heated windshield-washer fluid. Front and rear ultrasonic parking assistance, IntelliBeam automatic high-beam headlights, an in-dash six-CD changer with MP3 capability and adaptive cruise control also are available. Additional features include XM Satellite Radio, a DVD-based navigation system and GM’s OnStar communication system.

Under the Hood
Cadillac’s 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 comes in a choice of two configurations in the DTS. The base V-8 produces 275 hp and 295 pounds-feet of torque. Optional is a quicker-revving Northstar that makes 292 hp and 288 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines work with a four-speed automatic transmission.

Safety
Two new optional safety systems were introduced for 2008. The Lane Departure Warning system uses a camera between the rearview mirror and windshield to detect and warn drivers when they’ve strayed from their lane. The Side Blind Zone Alert uses radar to sense when objects are in the driver’s blind spots.

Six standard airbags include side-impact, side curtain and a new dual-depth front passenger unit that deploys either shallow or deep depending on crash severity, seat belt usage and occupant position. All-disc antilock brakes are standard, as is an electronic stability system.

  • Great luxury for the price.

This is a very good car but it must be driven like the big car it is. I have 115000 miles on mine, bought it with 89000 four years ago. I have had some mechanical issues but all cars do at this mileage. The mpg is low (9-11 local, 25 highway) but the ride makes up for it. The car cant be beat for road trips and I still get compliments on the look of it. I budget 100/ month for upkeep plus 15/month for tires. Over the long haul this has been very close to actual costs for repairs and maintenance. It is a great car .

  • Disappointed things started falling apart immediat

When we bought the car everything worked 2 days later the remote start stopped working, the back door wont open, the radio won’t turn off after you get out of the car and the computer screen goes in and out. The car drives like a dream and the interior is perfect. I feel we will be putting a lot of money into fixing the flaws

  • Reliable, big, luxurious, powerful, smooth, great

I found my 2008 DTS in 2017. With 14,000 actual miles from original purchaser. NorthStar engine is torquey, super quiet and very powerful. DTS is a true road car. Very comfortable and average 26mpg letting her breath at 75-80mph. It is a great way travel by any standard you choose. I’ve got a whopping 32k miles on it now. Haven’t had a single issue with components or engine. These later model NorthStar engines do not have the previous early years problems. Originally had a GM 100,000 Powertrain warranty. Of course mine is out due to time. Frosty cold A/C. Would purchase another if were available in a heart beat. You’ll have no regrets if you’re looking for a full-size V-8 road machine. Yeah, it’s an older car now that still turns heads.

  • I’ve been dealing short while ago this was the mos

I’ve been dealing short while ago this was the most reliable car I’ve owned in a long time however, it has begun to have electrical issues. First something started going haywire with the wiper system for no reason at all the wipers would come on with the washer going and it would run until it was empty or until it burned up. Fortunately I know enough about them that I know how to pull the fuse on the wiper system to make it stop. So I can feel your to start happened once stranded me overnight in a strange place until the next day when it decided it would run again. Couldn’t figure out what the problem was at the time . Then about a week later it did the same thing again this time in my driveway where it has sat for the last 2 1/2 months continuously with the same problem it no longer turns over, therefore you will not start. I have discovered that fuse block underneath the rear seat is the major problem. However at this time I simply cannot afford the $300 for a replacement nor the $700 for the new replacement fuel pump which had burned out Due to the failure in the fuse block

  • comfortable cruiser

This car was designed for cruising, set the cruise and relax, drives straight as an arrow. It's like sitting on your living room easy chair. Plenty of power for quick acceleration. 29 mpg on the highway and like a tank in the snow with qty 4 Blizzak WS80 snow tires.

  • My Dad took excellent care of this car!

Runs great. It has new front breaks and a new battery. It was kept in the garage year-round, had regular maintenance service and it was washed regularly. I have all the historic paperwork from past services.

  • I haven't had it a month yet. not as good as 2004

Lots of gadgets, I hope most of them continue to work. much more road noise than my old 2004 Cadillac. Low profile tires are the pits. Otherwise, it operates well. I just have to get used to lower quality of newer cars.

Beautiful car. It?s a dream to ride in. The thing we liked best about this car is the front bench style seat. They are so hard to find and they are so roomie. A car with a console just eats up all sorts of space. This car is just as spacious as you can get!

  • Luxury, power and reliability!

Plenty of room inside. Ultra smooth ride. Powerful engine yet good on gas. Drove this car for many years and its never let me down. Any repairs have been regular maintenance types that had nothing to do with how it runs...tires, tire pressure sensors, wiper blades....nothing major.
