So far, great car!
Just bought an '07 Fusion SE for my wife to replace her '97 Acura CL with 108,000 miles which had started making expensive noises. We were going to spend the day looking for another used Acura or Honda or maybe a new Prius. The first dealership we came to was Ford, and we ended up buying the Fusion. I've bought and sold over 35 cars in my life of all makes and price ranges, and have never owned more than 2 Fords, but I was really impressed by the features and driveability of the Fusion. The car has the V-6, AWD, traction control and ASB, leather interior, Sattalite radio & 6 speed CD. We drove both the 4 & V-6 and liked the snappier performance of the V-6. If I had it to do over again, however, I would have paid more attention to the available options and/or bought a loaded SEL. This car was on the lot and immediately available. The options it came with are fine, but wish we had the climate control & lighting option also. I would recommend thinking carefully about the options before buying.

It's a Keeper
I knew little about this car before I test drove one, but I'd read a little about the Mercury Milan and was intrigued. When it came to buying a new car, I found the Fusion to be the Milan's twin, with a less bling and a lower sticker price. After a test drive, I was sold. I purchased a Fusion S (the base model car) with the 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. I was extremely pleased to find the base model equipped with a number of standard features not routinely offered on other base model cars. I was impressed with the vehicle's clean exterior look - a great profile without much adornment. Ride quality was excellent, with a very sure-footed feel and little body roll during maneuvering. Power was adequate for my purposes. In the four month's I've owned the car I've never put the gas pedal more than half-way down in my normal driving. I've heard some downplay the 4-banger version of this car for low power (160 hp is low?), but unless you're trying to race or escape from a bank heist, it sems this car has ample power. When I've tried putting the pedal to floor just to see what she'd do, acceleration was spirited, but I swear I could see the needle on the gas gauge moving towards "E". The I-4's fuel mileage has been right on the sticker estimates of 31/23 mpg ... an endearing quality which I would not trade for more power, thank you. I have mixed emotions about the car's trunk. It's huge - I love its cavernous dimensions on the inside, but trunk lid sits high on the rear of the car and really restricts rearward visibility. I still haven't developed a sense of where the back of the car ends while I'm backing. I understand the 2008 model will offer backup sensors as an option. It's been a few years since I bought a car, so I'm not sure if Fusion's maintenance schedule is unique or if all late model cars have similar needs. Fusion's recommended maintenance schedule is surprisingly simple: regular oil changes, brake checks, and tire rotations. Spark plugs and coolant get changed only after 100,000 miles, and the engine has a timing chain (versus a belt) with no scheduled checks or replacment interval. Should be a cheap car to keep (knock wood).

Best Car I have ever owned
I am a very picky car owner. I want it all: looks, performance, and quality. I purchased the Fusion 4 cyl. SEL. I am very happy with the looks. The interior is also very nice. I am most impressed with the driving. The 4 cylinder is more than adequate. I get all the power I need and also get over 30 miles to the gallon on the highway. But what most impresses me is the handling. It is smooth and sporty. I know there are imports that are excellent cars also, but the looks and driving of this car made it an easy choice.

Faulty Honda Transmission, Hello Ford Fusion
My fiancee and I were sick of the nickle-and-dime repair jobs needed for her well-maintained 2001 Honda Civic. The last straw came when the transmission needed replacement at 100,000 miles. After getting rid of the car, we test drove a couple of Fusion models. Our purchase was a 2007 Fusion SEL with the 2.3L Duratec engine and manual transmission. Right now, we have 3500 miles on the vehicle. We were surprised at the amount of acceleration present from a 160HP engine. The cabin is considerably quiet at 70MPH. We love the comfort of the cloth seats. We're averaging 27.5 MPG with 50% of driving in the city The 5-speed shifter has a slightly (but not unbearable) longer throw than other transmissions. Obviously, this gearbox is not intended for high-performance racing, but the gear positions are definitive and heel-and-toe shifting is easy. The shifter knob is an engraved piece of textured plastic, an extremely minor blemish in my opinion. I may have a unique perspective on "interior material quality and noise," and perceptions of "performance." My family members own (and have owned) various BMW 5-series, 3-series and Cadillac CTS's and GM cars. The interior materials (cloth seating, SEL package) are nice and aesthetic, but not high-end. If you're that serious about interior materials, get out of the moderate-priced midsize segment (i.e. Camry, Accord, Fusion, Sonata) altogether and pony up the capital for the luxury or near-luxury sedans. Our Fusion is very quiet at highway speeds and the only road noises we hear are generated by nearby cars. Few, if any rattles are heard from interior components when the car strikes bumps. Body roll and braking distance are good. The turn radius is a little larger though. We love the options that came with the car. We love this car. Our friends (predominantly import drivers) love the car as well. This car turned my fiancee (a honda loyalist) into a Ford driver Ford will have no problem selling this vehicle!

Picked It Out For Company Car
I just changed jobs. Previously had a car allowance. Drove a Mazdaspeed3. Now I picked out a company car. Domestic Brands do offer more for the money. With Honda, Toyota, Audi etc... I was looking at a no-frills car. I got the Fusion SEL AWD w/ everything but DVD Navigation system for a great price. Driven it for about 3000 miles. Likes: AWD, Roominess, Content, Styling, Handling. 6 speed automatic. Dislikes: Needs about 50 more HP, Plastics inside look cheap, No Xenon headlights. I do have a caveat: The Maxdaspeed3 was 3150lbs with 263Hp, & a 6 speed manual. The Fusion is about 3500lbs with 221Hp and an automatic. All-in all for the price, it's a really good car. Stiff body, neutral handling w/ AWD. Quiet inside, lots of room. Much, much better than a vanilla Camry/Accord with 150-170 hp, cloth interior and totally anonymous styling.

Good Value
It has a lot of nice features. I have the leather, heated seats, satellite radio, abs, traction control. I wish Ford had a sport version of this car. It is a little too soft and handling isn't as sharp as I would like.Turning radius is not good as well. Visibility is lacking when backing up. Also wish they had offered the electronic stability control system. Otherwise it is gets pretty decent fuel mileage. With a little over 3000mi on the car I am averaging city about 22mpg.

Good effort, but not good enough
Ford has been trying to boost sales with daring design and innovative features and it is very apparent in the Ford Fusion. Its not bad at all for a ford, but it lacks the finesse of a Camry or Accord. Sure the commercials and ads say it out performs the two Japanese competitors, but to what degree are these promotional statements valid. After test driving all three vehicles ( Camry, Accord, Fusion) I felt that the Camy was the most well-rounded vehicle of three. The Fusion is a better performer in handling but it lacks the fastedious efforts of its japanese rivals. I consider the Fusion to be very "ordinary," but then again what is ordinary? Ford is trying way too hard and this struggle is also apparent to the general public. The good efforts can be praised, but the improvement isn't marked. Its not a bad commuter, but in the long run the Fusion is simply never going to suffice in the competiton with Japanese or European competitors.

Great Car Except
My family rented a 2007 Ford Fusion and the car was great the whole trip, until the end. About 15 miles from returning to Budget Rental I heard a loud "POP" sound and turned to see the right rear window was shattered and glass began falling in on my daughter. There were no signs of anything hitting the window. I think there is a possible design flaw with the rear door/windows.

Just about perfect
I've had my 2007 V6 SEL AWD for a few months now and several thousand miles. The car has been great so far. It handles and brakes like no other car in its class, the only one in its class with AWD in fact and yet its still cheaper than competitors. The only complaint about driving the car are these: could use more power, manual access to gears would be nice and well thats all really. The car looks great inside and out, much better than competitors. The car is well built inside and out. Its very comfy to-roomiest car in its class, the seats are very comfortable, a benefit of ford owning volvo no doubt. I have leather, with heat and lumbar which is great. The ride quality is great and the car is nice and quiet.
