mitsubishi outlander phev 40th anniversary edition exterior oem 01 jpg

Mitsubishi is celebrating 40 years of being in the U.S. market with the unveiling of a 40th Anniversary Edition trim for its 2023 Outlander and Outlander PHEV SUVs. The special-edition trim brings some styling changes to make it stand out from other Outlander trims and starts at $41,715 (all pricing includes a $1,345 destination charge).

The 40th Anniversary Edition’s exterior styling carries over the core theme from the standard Outlander but adds a trim-exclusive coat of Black Diamond paint, a contrasting bronze color for the roof and 40th Anniversary badges. It builds on the SEL Premium Package and, as a result, features a healthy amount of upscale interior amenities, including leather seats, a head-up display and a Bose premium audio system. The special edition also adds door and cargo scuff plates, Dynamic Shield and center console illumination, a chrome hood emblem, and a rear bumper protector.

Performance for the 40th Anniversary Edition is dependent on which Outlander model it’s equipped to, but gas-powered models have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower, and the plug-in Outlander uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors to make a combined 248 hp. All-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission are standard on both versions.

Pricing and Release Date

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition is available now. Full pricing is below:

  • Outlander: $41,715
  • Outlander PHEV: $51,735

  • I bought a new 2023 Outlander which now has around 15K

I bought a new 2023 Outlander which now has around 15K miles. So many issues with it, and none of them are being fixed by the dealership. Couple of months after I got it, the info center started to randomly go out. It has wireless CarPlay but the phone has to be plugged in for AndroidAuto. The charging ports randomly stop charging. The dealership says they don't see the problem because it works when I bring the car. The videos I recorded don't count, so I brought the car in as it was malfunctioning. They saw how a plugged-in phone didn't charge but still said they can't do anything without Mitsubishi authorization. After a few months someone came from Mitsubishi and they said they'll contact me. Waited for 2 months, nothing happened. When I called, there was no record of my case, so it started from scratch and took more months. Every time they said they'll contact me and never did. Finally, I told them the system has to be fixed asap, it goes out in the middle of the trip leaving me without GPS and the car is supposed to be under warranty. The guy said it makes no sense to fix it as all their info units are defective and need a software update, which is coming out in 2 months, in November 2024. It's March 2025 - no update in sight. The camera regularly freezes. When backing up, there is a few second delay - which should be a reason for recall - and today instead of a bird view image it showed one right front camera position. The wipers don't change the speed. The trunk button for locking the car almost never works but, of course, when I brought it in, it worked that one time. The brakes screech when backing up and turning. Mitsubishi said it's normal for an electric brake. All the issues are expected, normal and they won’t fix anything. This SUV has a 4-cylinder engine so the ride feels slow and heavy. I had a 17-year old Odyssey before and it had much lighter and stronger pull than a brand new Outlander. The third row is a joke. Small sizes adults don't fit in there. They make you buy a mandatory $1300 Zurich cleaning package. I used it once but it didn't include the trunk which stayed dirty. A worthless rip-off. Customers shouldn't be forced to buy it. Mitsubishi has service promotions and they tell you they'll make sure to deduct the offer but don't. I was quoted a regular price over the phone for an oil change and 2 filters as $207. After the service they gave me a bill for $80 more. When I reminded them about the quote, they lowered it, but removed the promotion. The first time I waited for an oil change that was supposed to take 40 minutes but took well over 3 hours. The second time I asked for a shuttle service they provide - the only thing I can praise about the dealership. I need the car every day so it's very difficult to leave it for repairs. And then they won't do any repairs. What use is the warranty? I regret buying it. The car is only a year and a half old but too many things malfunction and you can't get them fixed. Horrible manufacturing quality and service. Mitsubishi is unreliable and irresponsible.

  • 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL BLACK EDITION.

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL BLACK EDITION. I bought mines brand new on Nov 2022. So far it had a recall for firmware update. As of now. Almost 15 k miles and no issues. I love all the features and was told ot doesn't have the issues its predecessor had. Mitsubishi invested millions in the 2023 models so hopefully I can get 200k or more miles out of it.

  • Some Annoying Concerns

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander SE AWD Have had the car for 11 months since new and overall it drives good but: -two recalls for back up camera and software -bad front suspension mounts that made annoying popping noise -bad steering rack and pinion that also made popping noise -front brake caliper noise that scored the rotor [states it could be from a small rock?] luckily the dealer had parts in stock but took over 7 hours to fix, as I waited.

  • 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander report

2023 outlander SE, now has 6500 miles on it. We bought it mostly because it was the best value, and a relative has one and recommended it. We love it, was concerned about power but it has plenty if not in the fuel saving mode..which got us 36mpg highway. Took awhile to get used to all the safety features, but in short they are great. We’ve used all seven seats a couple of times, the back two are ok for short trips, but that was expected. They fold away nicely. Paint was perfect, it’s some kind of white diamond, looks different depending on sunlight. There are a lot of sw driven options, could be confusing for older non-sw savvy folks. We have only used service for one issue, which turned out to be a user configurable issue (lane encroachment warning). It was working as designed, also the cruise control front vehicle avoidance was a pleasant surprise. Love this vehicle. We live on a pot hole filled dirt road, vehicle taking it well so far. It does have a stiff suspension, noticeable on our dirt road, but fine on paved roads. It is the all wheel drive version, we’ll see how it handles snow soon. Oh, ground clearance is decent, not too low. We do not have the on board guidance system, but can use apple play. Wife would have preferred this option. Another good surprise, it e-mails us notifications of warnings on the dash board, like “low tire pressure”. Cool. One last thing, we very seldom see another one on the road. Odd…this is a great vehicle.

Thin paint Job . 5224 miles and lots of chips and scratches . Washed by hand and that caused scratches even with microfiber . Plastic interior scratches very easy as well .

  • Affordable and Luxurious SUV

Years ago, I owned a 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor. I loved that vehicle. Over the years, I’ve owned numerous luxury vehicle brands (Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln, Audi, etc.). However, when I thought back to my favorite vehicle, it was always the Mitsubishi Endeavor. So, when I set out to buy a new vehicle this year, I was curious to see what Mitsubishi had to offer in 2023. WOW! The new Outlander was intriguing. Really impressive styling, tech options galore, and third row seating. I narrowed down my trim options and landed on a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL. This is by far the most impressive vehicle Mitsubishi has ever created for the U.S. market. If you’re thinking of buying a new SUV, I STRONGLY encourage you to check out the 2023 Outlander. It’s light years away from its predecessor. It doesn’t seem possible to own a vehicle at this level of quality and luxury for the price I paid. Test drive one and see for yourself.

  • This was not the first choice, but I am SO HAPPY!!

This was not the first choice, but I am SO HAPPY I Chose the 2022 Outlander SE. The ride is amazing and the road feel is strong. The milage is good for the size. The tech is awesome, minus the lack of an on fob remote start. Combine all of the pluses with the warranty and you have a Dang Good Value. 50k ride for a about 34k.
