Electric car without range anxiety
Great everyday commute car. Daily drive to and from work purely electric, but never worry about weekend trips of any distance. Very smooth and quiet in electric mode, and can barely tell when on gas on the highway. AC works great, heater could be better. Hatch has more room than most people expect.

Plug it in and Go!
Hard to decide what's the best part of the vehicle. It's cheap to run, about $18 a month for electricity, driving from home to one office and then to another and back home. On one charge, especially using the regen braking. So yes it does have a gasoline battery charger, a generator kicks on by it's self. When the generator starts due to low battery I feel totally confident that I will get where I am going. In fact, I could drive to California- as long as I have gasoline. I like the sport mode, it is quick as the vehicle doesn't shift as in a traditional vehicle, it is all torque. It's a fun car to drive. I use snow tires all year round and it gets great traction.

Excellent commuter that's fun too
Bought this car used in 2018. Great value for the money. I average about 110 MPG on this car combining electric and gas. The car rides smooth and is great for two. Probably not the best for a road trip more than two, but great for getting two people around with lots of space in the trunk/folded down seats.

Electric + Gas = Awesome
I'm the original owner and overall I am really pleased with this car. I typically go over 1,000 miles without buying gas because electric gets me around town. It's peppy and fun to drive, handling well, too. The technology works flawlessly both in the engine and the dashboard. My concerns are threefold. One, check the visibility for you and your body. It's not the best but I'm OK with it. My wife really dislikes that aspect. The provided portable charging cord in the 2014 Volt was junk. It kinked and eventually broke due to a flaw in the design of the plug. Maybe this has been improved since. Finally, the charging capacity is steadily diminishing. What was 38 is now more like 36 and seems to drop faster.

Mixed feelings
I concur with many other reviews about the positives of the car-- I love the acceleration, handling, and the smooth quiet ride. The plug-in hybrid approach is great for me--I can do my daily commute/errands entirely on electric while still being able to make longer trips out of town without worrying about finding a charger. After a couple of months with mine, though, there are a few distinct negatives, all related to design/styling decisions, that bug me. First, the visibility is *terrible* -- most notably out the rear window, but also the front pillars are wide enough to to, for example, block me from seeing a pedestrian when I'm manouvering around a parking lot. Second, I really wish there were more storage capacity in the hatchback. I could carry more stuff in the trunk of my old Civic than in this car. And finally, the dashboard panel with controls for heating/ventilation and the "infotainment center" is just ridiculous. The flat no-buttons/no-dials approach means you have to look carefully to see what spot on the flat surface you need to press to make something happen. It's a safety and usability nightmare and I'm amazed it actually made it into production. All that said--I still really like the car. If there were more options in the plug-in market, I might have chosen otherwise (a plug-in Fit would be my dream car), but on balance this works for me.

Mostly electric driving without range anxiety
First this is a great car regardless of power source. Comfortable and quiet, it is a pleasure to drive with brisk acceleration and flat cornering. It is very economical to operate not only because driving on electricity is much cheaper than driving on gas, but because it runs on electricity much of the time, the gas engine operates far less. With 31,000 miles, the only maintenance my Volt has needed so far is tire rotations and one oil change (almost due for a second oil change). That saves money, but it also saves me time by avoiding trips to the mechanic.

Amazing Volt
Never thought i would buy this type of car until i got to be a passenger twice. I start investigating the pros and cons and that was the point i convinced not only myself that this is a great car to own. I just love it and the driving experience is amazing. I was already driving a chevy that had excellent mileage but not the experience you get with this vehicle. An amazing piece of technology and affordable as well.

We love our Volt
This is our second Volt. Before this, we had two Honda Civic Hybrids and drove them for over 250,000 miles, but we like the Volt even better because it relies much more on its electrical motor and uses less gas. Also, we can use the Volt in the diamond lane even when one of us is alone, since we made sure to purchase both Volts with green stickers. Unfortunately, our 2013 Volt was totaled in a rear ender during the first heavy rain of the season. Both Volts were purchased used, with fairly low mileage, and in perfect condition. They are fun to drive, get great mileage, and the only problem is that the heating and air conditioning are weak points. You can buy a used Volt for well under $20,000 so it's a great bargain car. Our current Volt is the premium model with heated seats, so during colder weather, we just turn the heated seats on and it's quite comfortable. We have learned to use the Mountain mode when our battery is low, and build up a power reserve that gets us home mostly on battery. Our Volt charges on household current at night, and then we charge it at work during the day so it's ready to go most of the way home. We are seeing more and more Volts on the road, and even in our neighborhood. They are great cars.

A very economical car with good handling.
The car works perfectly for our blend of short and long drives. We have presently averaged about 100 miles per gallon
